I am 78 years old and just starting work carving and would love to add burning to some of my designs. I do believe we are never too old to have a new craft.
I just got A wood burner and will try and see if A 71 year old man can learn A new skill lol You did A great job explaining . I definitely learn something listening to you
Searching RUclips for Woodburning beginner videos and this one with the least views is the best one just from the first minute. Transferring the image using paper and pencil is probably the most useful bit of information to help when starting up without carbon paper or other ways to trace. thank you.
Instead of using sandpaper to erase the burning, try a razor blade and scrape the burning away. I used to use sandpaper, before I found out how well the blade works. It leaves a much nicer edge and surface. I have another video talking about erasing wood burnings. And hey, thank you so much for putting my video link in your description!
Thanks Ellen, my kids bought me a wood burning tool last Father’s Day, I used it once or twice and wasn’t getting on with it, but your video has inspired me to give it another go. I think thanks to your excellent video I’ve spotted where I was going wrong.
Just been given a wood burning tool for my birthday, and this video was brilliant, really easy to follow. I look forward to trying my hand at this art.
Hi there thanks for the tips on pyrography I've tried it but not that brilliant at it but I'll keep trying. I tend to dig into wood and it makes it harder like you mentioned in your tutorial. Thank you Tim from wood 4 nothing
My mom gave me her wood burner, and I'm gonna make prototype map tiles on to squares cut from hobby boards (which I'd then paint with acrylic paint, possibly matte varnish, too, so they'd last). Videos like this are a huge help.
Thank you! So clearly, helpful and insightful a tutorial! I have watched many but yours makes me feel like I have enough intel to actually give it a shot.
Great work. Just a little tip for when you correct the piece and it left it a little lighter... for the same on the other sections to show all the unworked sections a little lighter together x
rotating the piece definitely helpful. Sometimes though, the pieces I do are too big for turning them around. like the most recent one of an audi r8 that is 5ft long.
Absolutely fantastic I am blown away what a wonderful teacher thank you so very much for sharing your wonderful enthusiasm and skill you have given me confidence to start I am awaiting my first package machine and accessories for delivery tomorrow may God bless you for sharing you're wonderful skill please please stay safe kiss kiss kiss kiss Leo
Brilliant video! I just bought my first pyrography pen and will be giving it a go soon. I think I'll try that compass that you made because I loved how that turned out! :D
+SuperLelaKi Thanks! I just used a very basic tool from Amazon. There's a link to that specific one in the description, but really any basic one will do if you're just starting out. I do recommend picking one with a rubber grip if you can, since that keeps the grip a bit cooler to the touch.
Is there a particualr type of wood cheap and easy to start with, or any cheap untreated wood can be good? i say cheap because if i screw up i dont lose my mind on expensive woods.
It's a basic one from Amazon Germany, it cost around 15 euros. I put the link in the video description for you. The longest I used it in one go was about an hour straight. After a while I could definitely feel it getting hot, but it didn't burn me. I think the thick rubber ring where you hold it helps, not all of them have that.
I don't know. In theory it might work, but I suspect it will be difficult to control. Both in terms of heat and following your pattern. Worth a try though :)
Good video.. Nice Orca whale.. & it's pronounced "Hi-dah" (check our Tulalip casino artwork (Tulalip covers a group of different Pnw tribes) thanks again for your info

Thanks for the tip Dylan! I'll give the razor blade a try next time :)
Dylan's DIY Workshop I'll try that too! Ty!
I just got a wood burning kit, and as you can see by my profile I love orcas so I wanted to wood burn one, you practically showed me how!

This is a great straightforward overview of woodburning for beginners. Thx so much.
That’s really nice. I just got a pen yesterday just trialing it out for now

I'm ten and I got my wood burning kit yesterday an I just bunt a swamn in to wood
Thank you for the tips!! I’m going to try wood burning out to make signs for Christmas gifts!
Here is another tip, the silver tip she used in the beginning is for soldering not for wood. I made that mistake a few times.
those are awesome pieces! and I liked the nail file idea!!! thanks for the video
rotating the piece definitely helpful. Sometimes though, the pieces I do are too big for turning them around. like the most recent one of an audi r8 that is 5ft long.
Excellent informative video and I love your accent.
An excellent form of meditation.
hé wat leuk, goede uitleg door een Nederlandse! Ik heb net ook zo’n brandapparaatje gekocht en ga er binnenkort voor het eerst mee aan de slag
With simple designs I have taped the image to the wood and burned the basic outline right through the paper.
Great first tie job x i really love the Whale.x
This is a great demo for beginners! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us.

Thanks for the great tutorial! This was very helpful.
I think the sanding on the compass looks awesome, maybe sand all those parts so it looks more 3-D❤️
Kudos. Your presentation was very informative and enjoyable. Your style is very pleasant and engaging. Thanks.

You made it look so easy. Thanks. Very encouraging.

Amazing video and very helpful for beginners like me m. What tool did you use and where can I buy it?

Good work👍👍
Excellent video, may I ask what type of wood you are using there.... regards
Nice job Ellen!
Thanks!
Is it neccessary to wear safety glasses for woodburning with the pen
Thank You....Made my day
Great Video. I'll order me a beginner set. 😊 Do you know if there's a time limit to a session of burning?
pretty cool!
Parchment paper would’ve worked, no? I’ve never done this before so I’m here to learn myself. Thank you for the video!
Thank you 🤗💜
Concise and v useful thanks
solo deberias señalar el nivel de calor a utilizar en pirografo. BUEN VIDEO Y APORTE...GRACIAS
nice work and good content👍👌
+JENNI.SWISS Thanks Jenni!
You're a natural 😁
Is there a particualr type of wood cheap and easy to start with, or any cheap untreated wood can be good?
i say cheap because if i screw up i dont lose my mind on expensive woods.
Maybe use a metal ruler to use as a guide for straight lines?
What wood burner are you using, how much is it, and can you feel the heat/ does it burn you? My friend said her "cheap" wood burner burned her
It's a basic one from Amazon Germany, it cost around 15 euros. I put the link in the video description for you. The longest I used it in one go was about an hour straight. After a while I could definitely feel it getting hot, but it didn't burn me. I think the thick rubber ring where you hold it helps, not all of them have that.
Hi! May I know how high does this wood burner burns up to? How long does it takes to burn an A4 sized design using this device? Thank you!:)
Very nice 👌👌👌
Good video
love her dutch accent!!
What wood did you use here if I may ask?
awesome thx
Keep it up
Thanks. My first project will be "Plan your Work then Work your Plan"
But would a magnifying glass work?
I don't know. In theory it might work, but I suspect it will be difficult to control. Both in terms of heat and following your pattern. Worth a try though :)
Kaaskop!!!!!! leuke video by the way
Curious. Why can’t you use transfer paper from sewing notion traceable like carbon paper and they will mark on anything? Just wondering.
You can use transfer paper, I just didn't have any :)
TOP !!
How long did this take?
Ben je nederlands?🙃
Could you plz go into more detail on putting an image on wood
Use carbon paper
There are other kits that use various wire shapes, which is the best type to get, the pen and changeable nib or wire type? cheers
I haven't used the wire tips myself, but they seem to be very nice! Would love to have a go with them, I suspect they might be better.
@@CraftsWithEllen Thanks for the reply. I see a few on Amazon and they come with about 10 wire shapes. An adjustable temp unit and the tip. Cheers
That is just a soldering iron she is using. To keep the tip clean during use, use a brass pad or damp sponge.
They look very similar, but soldering irons don't get as hot as wood burning tools. And the interchangeable tips are a big benefit :)
Leuk gedaan
haida is pronounced (high-duh) I am amazed you know of haida formline design
Couldnt find any download links sorry ?
I need Designed photos for wood burning
Are you from holland by chance?
Yes :)
Good video.. Nice Orca whale.. & it's pronounced "Hi-dah" (check our Tulalip casino artwork (Tulalip covers a group of different Pnw tribes) thanks again for your info
Thanks, I'll remember that 👍
Holland no?
Slatka si
Will you marry me? Lol your so helpful! Just kidding, about the marry me thing. Keep up good work,go improvising!
FYI, it's pronounced "high-Da", not "Hey-Da". Yeah, I'm Canadian (ruclips.net/video/UCG-o_nohlg/видео.html)
to bad didn't have wale or other animals done wale style
to down lode not really compases
Lmao that's a soldering iron
Slix Tocsik well lots of people use the soldering iron style woodburner. Not everyone can drop a over hundred on a woodburning machine with nibs.
Why am i watching a tutorial from a complete beginner? Smh
Can I be u husband.?
wonky lines
