Let's be honest, they won't. They'll be like the Stormtroopers where they're only really badass in the comics and and only becomes competent in the show if the plot demands it.
In my opinion, The Walking Dead's Commonwealth soldiers could have been more interesting if they were divided into different tiers, such as red, yellow, and white soldiers. For instance, the red tier could feature a character like Mercer, while the yellow tier could include skilled survivors and ex-military personnel, alike to the Reapers but with slightly less skill. Finally, the white tier could consist of beginners. This approach could have made the Commonwealth soldiers more dynamic. Just imagine a scene where the IQ and teamwork of the yellows are on full display, giving our protagonists a hard time, followed by another scene where the whites are easily defeated by the group.

I'd rather have plastic armor than no armor vs zombies. But the series has strange power level differance. Some times zombies rip people open as if there made of cake. Sometimes they can't bites because there is tape around a arm.
According to the zombie survival manual zombies are no stronger than the average human the only difference is that unlike humans zombies do not have pain nerve endings. So when a human would be come fatigued or felling hurt enough to force them to stop. A zombie with just continue with out stopping.
@@onewhotalks1943humans have a limiter as well. It’s why under high stress or fear, you could get some skinny kid suddenly be able to lift weights that would impress a bodybuilder. Your muscles are so strong that they will rip themselves apart if the body doesn’t limit them. Walkers wouldn’t have such limiters, which may explain how they are able to bite through thick clothing and flesh easily, overpower a person despite being emaciated and seemingly frail, and how they managed to tear people apart when enough of them get a hold. They’re actually a lot stronger, at least when they have some muscle mass left, and can use all their muscle with no limit.
@@crb8599 To be fair, it seems like they toned down Princess going into season 11. Her clothes didn't make her stand out anymore, at least not like that pink fur jacket she had at any rate. They seemed to tone down her personality as well and made her slightly more "normal" as a functioning adult. I think they had intended on exploring mental health issues with her as a result of her traumatic past before the outbreak and her isolation during it. They mostly abandoned it though in season 11. She was still quirky, but also seemed more mature. They kind of made her a "voice of reason" in the final season.
The goggles do not destroy your peripheral vision as much as you think. Armor is a good idea, but they went full Stormtrooper mode instead of properly designing it.
Stormtrooper armor is great... Or was until Disney took over. Pre Disney the comics and books stated most Stormtroopers who get hit are wounded, not killed.
@@huntclanhunt9697 That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about the fact that the armor is just a bunch of loose plastic plates instead of plenty flexible slash and stabproof materials. The armor does nothing because zombies just keep biting the neck and joints. Even if they were wearing actual lore correct Stormtrooper armor, we'd have to just assume that the black basesuits can resist cuts and punctures.
Get ready for a small rant… Now, I don’t have much knowledge on the comics, but from what I saw, the Commonwealth were a legitimate threat that needed to be taken seriously. Their armor was very protective (they even criticized the crotch armor at one point). On top of that, they were functional soldiers that could be taken down without resorting to too much plot armor. What happened in the show?!
In the comics a grand majority of them were active-duty and reservists as well as National Guard pre-apocalypse along with veterans. I think there are probably some veterans and soldiers, marines, airmen, and sailors who joined up post-apocalypse, but I doubt it would be too much as a grand majority of them died at the start and most units ended up sticking together as evidenced in Season 3, rather than joining any larger groups.
@@MASTEROFEVIL Yeah, the Georgia Army National Guard unit. Also, Robert Kirkman generally speaking is quite anti-military and it was one of the reasons why the military is portrayed as so incompetent [also because if they were, there would be no show].

In the comic you have one soldier proving their armor is biteproof by walking into a group of zombie. Also just from the look we can already tell that the armor doesnt have any exposed part that let them get bitten easily. They just die cause plot need them to.
I personally had a serious problem with how both the Commonwealth stormtroopers and the Alexandria survivors kept using full auto against the walkers...
I think that resistant boots for crawling zombies, bracers for emergency situations and a miner helmet as a precaution for falling debris and flashlight holder would be all you need as armor against the zombies. Bare minimum protection for unexpected situations and accidents but also full mobility to escape
Commonwealth soldiers suffer stormtrooper syndrome, needing to be a threatening army in the plot, but also being useless enough to ensure that the main characters don't get gunned down or tossed in a concentration camp by act 2
I've worn a helmet with goggles not too dissimilar in shape to their for airsoft. It really doesn't limit your vision much unless the goggles fog over.
What a way to make a fearsome adversary into a comical level enemies. Their armor is actually good in the comics anyway. Polymer armor is lightweight (when compared to kevlar and trauma plates) and the goggles don't really obstruct as much you would think. They're like ski goggles. I would prefer to be in the armor personally as it means should I get swarmed, the zombies cannot get to me as easily. Thus increasing the time for my squad to save me.
They're exactly like Storm Troopers bright white armor to stand out, when they're facing side characters and non important characters they're killing machines but as soon as plot armor kicks in they start to turn incompetent missing all their shots
What I wonder most about is the distance between the Commonwealth and places like Alexandria and Oceanside. I mean they have been at Alexandria for a long time, how tf did they never see any troopers or hell, a city with walls and 50.000 people😂😂
Well our characters are in Virginia, specifically the Washington DC area and according to the show and comics the commonwealth looks like they are some where in eastern Ohio. So they are like around 300 miles away from one and another. And since cars aren’t really around anymore walking or going by horse would take a week or two of traveling
When a group is expendable it makes you not care about them, and there are no stakes. It's like GIjoe killing a bunch of robots, or in Star Wars killing a bunch of robots or killing a bunch of faceless storm troopers. It's merely the writing trope of faceless expendable minions to make another group look more powerful. It's the stormtrooper and red shirt fallacy, as long as you aren't in combat against plot armor or alone with the main characters you probably aren't in trouble, but heaven help you if you are, then you fall into that tropey memey gunna die zone.
all gunbattles in TWD are kinda plotarmor heavy. even back in the prison they were landing headshot after headshot with guns that had makeshift silencers but when it comes to shoot at people suddenly they are the stromtroopers trying to shoot at Lea and Luke.... it has always been something I felt was offputting
Tbh there was some bad writing, for example: when we see Magie and that small group meet the reapers, negan gets shot in the leg and never says or does anything about it. He doesn’t even limp or anything. So ye there was some bad writing.
that part where Negan gets shot in the foot doesn't count as bad writing cuz he gets shot up at his leg.but then pulls out the arrow, and then we dont see him for a bit after that.
It’s important to remember these guys were more fit for anti-walker operations, not human v human battles. Although I’m hoping they’ll be better prepared against the CRM.
You also have to take into account that they do not have the logistical abilities like a conventional army before the walkers roamed the earth. In conventional military you go to recruiting stations talk to a recruiter or several and have several appointments fill out paper work. Get a ship date for MEPS Military Entry Processing Station where you fill out more paper work your physical, mental evaluation, finalize and singe your military contract swear your oath and you get shipped out to basic that day or if you are in a delay entry program you wait any where for several months to a year before shipping out to basic training. If you fail at any point in this process you cant be rejected and try again later or you are PDQd perminatly disqualified meaning you can not try to enlist again. Not to mention a huge back ground check and several things you cant join like felonies. Basic training for argument sake lets us the USMC basic training which is three months and for non combat marines you got to a month of more advanced military training before you go to you job for school. Combat marines go to their job school like SOI or school of the infantry which is another three months for more advanced infantry training then you go to you duty station. In basic they do even more checks on your back ground and if anything comes up you did not tell them during MEPS you are done no Marines or any other branch for you I'm not going into the marine raider force recon as that is a different animal by itself. Are main focus here is what is the bare bones requirements to just get to the fleet as a basically trained marine. I know I am missing many many things here this is just really basic stuff I am covering here. Once you get to your first duty station is when you are actually in the USMC the same goes for other branches. With the common wealth they do not have the time to do all of what I have talked about above. No time to do a back ground check because the internet is gone and good luck trying to pull court records you just have to take people at their word in not all but most cases. In the beginning when they come to the common wealth they are taken into custody and are hounded with several days of interviews. No mater how well you think you are interviewing someone, people still manage to slip through the cracks. When we see Daryl and Rosita in basic training for the common wealth and all of the other recruits is that the numbers that they are replacing because that's how many soldiers died or deserted or injured. We do not now how many of the soldiers die in a month and they need to be replace and unfortunately you are pulling form a large portion of people that are not qualified or up to the task at hand. Murser probably got orders on high we have this many open slots that need to be filled fill them they all "pass". Forcing him to lower the standards. talk to any one in the military and when the standers are lowered quality suffers. I would not want to be Murcer or any of the officers in the commonwealth military from the show because you are given an impossible task with many people who are not qualified to do it and when you fail its all on you because the people on high could never admit that their standards and policies could be wrong. When the standards are lowed quality suffers
It's just so silly they made the whispers better than a hole group of survivors some with ex military experience the show it's a shit show at this point negan is keeping it alive and barely btw

Interesting that you just made this video right when I'm struggling to finish season 11. Been watching one episode every week and a half or so, a lot a things seem a bit ridiculous and you already pointed out a problem I've been having. The main characters emit an aura of stupidity and anyone against them is caught in it. Doesn't really feel like there are any stakes.
Imagine if the Whisperers were within the horde that attacked the Commonwealth, They could've easily distablize and destroyed the whole community in one night, Considering commonwealth soldiers got taking out by walkers.
The scene where Carol and Darul were escaping with Hornsby in tow and the soldiers were shooting at them in a Corridor yet still somehow missed every damn shot had me LOLing so hard.
7:40, to be fair it's a totally different scenario when your shooting at someone unarmed vs someone shooting back. Given that the soldiers never fought anything but walkers the stress lvl of being shot at in plastic body armor would overwhelm their senses causing them to point and shoot instead of aim.
The thing I gound strange is that their is no form of marshal art against walkers. They are in the end slow short lunging combatants usually un-armored. But trip attacks like hooking against the legs and forcing them to fall back and attack them while they are on the ground is very beneficial. But instead it is go head on swinging at the head which expends a lot of energy in a short moment. Swords(long sword even) swinging at the legs can cripple them drastically and a large swing arc that like Michone's katana can be very beneficial.
You can really see the effort put into this video you're definitely my favourite youtuber at first I only watched your shorts but ever since I've discovered your videos I can't wait for new releases and also, CONGRATS on 1 MIL!!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🥳🥳🥳
it's the storm trooper argument all over again, they wear tons of armor it means they have limited sight lines, they get exhausted more quickly, and also you have you realize their training is quite limited from what we saw in this season
in the scene (the first that we met commonwealth) a soldier ask princess some questions, omg, anyone else noticed that he was a damn NPC, for example: Soldier-where are u from Princess-where are my friends Soldier-how old are you Princess didn't answer and the soldier asked a different question
the most incredible thing here is that disney didn't go after AMC for copyright infringement given how aggressive disney has been about enforcing copyrights...
Bad aim in. First shot manages to hit a moving target on a horse several metres away 😂😂 Edit: realised he said while important characters are there they have bad aim my bad
One idea for the episode was that they show both competence and incompetent soldiers, competent ones are actually trained for threats such as people that were accurate at shoot escapees, but show these competent soldiers maybe slightly different uniforms, was killed in a reasonable way for story, leaving the incompetent soldiers that missed everything for two minutes, the incompetent are basically just normal people not bothered to really to be trained, while competent ones actually knows what to do, for room clearing a few zombies seems fine for incompetent soldiers while competent ones handles other things such as hoards and other not so simple threats as walkers in smaller rooms.
I haven't even watched the walking dead yet but I can already see from just clips that so many of the characters or people in it lack brain cells. Like I saw a clip of Carl trying to go help someone and Rick holds Carl back and they watch this guy just stand there and shout "STAY AWAY" instead of running away and he just gets eaten alive by walkers. Then I saw when the walkers climbed over the walls of the Commonwealth base and the Commonwealth soldiers are like "OH NO THEY'RE CLIMBING OVER THE WALLS!" Then they proceed to not even try to run away and get themselves killed. I also saw a clip where Nick is walking with a bunch of walkers and this trio come along in a car and start shooting at the walkers. One guy shot at the walkers with a revolver and was more worried about fucking reloading than his own life. He had so much time to get away, a gun AND a car and yet all three of them still got killed. Someone mentioned that the soldiers and many people are dumb because the plot needs it but there's better ways like having characters or soldiers ambushed by walkers that they didn't realise were there rather than the soldiers or characters LITERALLY standing there and its like they're waiting for the walkers to come and kill them.
Anyone can be a marksman until the target starts shooting back. If you watch combat videos you can clearly see that both sides are going to always be firing off hundreds of rounds at eachother and not hitting anything at all. Now add "soldiers" with automatic weapons and little training while under pressure and youre going to get a whole lot of missed shots. Our main cast is battle hardened, they can hit shots under pressure after all theyve been through. I think the armour is fine, it works for what they needed it to work for and I think the show just did a really bad job at showcasing how effective it is against walkers, so blame that on bad writing. Personally I like to think that the commonwealths military recieved better training under Ezekiel and Mercer once they were put in charge, and that the commonwealth military actaully stands a chance against the CRM. Finally Imma say this, automatic weapons are fun to shoot, but they suck in actual combat situations with the exception of when you need suppressing fire. Its just a waste of bullets and makes hitting your shots nearly impossible.
What stormtroopers are good shoots they are like 30% more accurate then a Soldier in our world only when they meet the main cast like Luke they are bad
I am all about the Stormtrooper outfits - kind of amazed it took people *this* long to design "Walker Combat Armor". You see people 12 years into the apocalypse fighting in short sleeve shirts FFS. These Stormtrooper outfits just needed a few tweaks. First: Helmets are bad, your best weapon for offense and defense vs walkers is keen hearing and full visual perception (video touches on this - it's not that they're stupid, it's they can't hear or see anything in those). The walker you can see and hear is not a significant threat - it's the walker you can't that gets you every time. Clear or 1-sided Face shields and open ear head-gear is the way to go. Second: Surprising lack of variations - the Stormtrooper outfit (minus the helmet) is great for small, surgical operations that won't last long against a small to medium amount of dead - like raiding an infested building for supplies. For guard duty in relative safe zones, you'd want about half that armor covering key vital areas - but designed not to be cumbersome so it can be worn in heat for hours on end. Armpits, thighs and parts of the core unprotected for maximum heat loss. Hordes, you want to sacrifice even more protection - if you're in melee vs. a Horde, the only thing that'll keep you alive is being fast, quick on your feet to avoid being flanked and not tired. The armor fails at all of those. I'd just keep modified headgear, neck coverage, shoulder coverage and one arm covered (so you have the option to shove it into a zombie's mouth while you deal with it or another - similiar to padding used to fight of/train attack dogs). So, having the full stormtrooper set have velco components to allow easy stripping of key areas would make it much better. Some things it does right: White. This is a Walker Combat Suit. You want to be very visible to non-walkers so you don't get shot. The material - polymer is perfect - it's light, cheap, easy to create and will stop human bites and claws. That's what it's designed to do - anything more than that is pointless. If you need to defense vs. weapons, you're no longer fighting the dead and there should be a whole new outfit designed with that agenda in mind. And holy hell this got long. I promise I have a life.
Watching the one soldier just stand there not shooting the zombies and then get overwhelmed and ripped in half made me want to vomit. The only reason any real person would do that is because they froze up out of fear. But I still feel like survival instincts would kick in.
I disagree with the 2 examples you used on the screen when mentioning the bad writing. I don't see how Negan or Maggie are forced in any way. Normally when you think of forced relationships you think of when 2 people are forced together romantically. Negan spent a whole 3 seasons of development as a character and was giving pretty much everybody no reason to believe he was the same Negan that terrorized them years before. Most of the reasons why some characters hold grudges against him isn't because they still think he's a bad person, they just wanna justify their hatred of him by choosing to believe he's still bad. And during the last episode I thought when Negan and Maggie talked it was done very well and laid a good ground of understanding between both of them. Maggie is accepting that she can't hold that kind of hatred anymore and she understands that Negan, while she will never like him, is somebody who she can trust as a functioning part of the group now. As for the example of "no emotions". When has Daryl ever been consistently openly expressive? It's the big moments for his character that he breaks his tough exterior and visibly expresses how he feels instead of telling you as a matter of fact. There are so many variables for why Daryl is emotionless when he kills Leah. So let's see. He has a one night stand basically with somebody who he barely knows, and is associated to the reapers that tried to kill people from his group. He's known Maggie since season 2. He got close to her whole family from Beth, Hershel, Glenn, all of whom they both lost and Maggie period has just lost so much as a character. Not to mention Leah and her group were threats to other people Daryl cares about like Carol, Connie, Judith, etc. Daryl has always been for his people first and is nearly always the first on the frontlines protecting them. The fact that his face as he killed Leah didn't turn into literal stone from lack of emotion is astonishing. Like there may have been a passing thought of "oh I had close connection to this person for a very brief period" but when considering the above, the decision to do that required literally zero thinking or hesitation. And by the way if I remember the show correctly, Daryl interacted with Leah for a span of MAYBE a couple weeks while his prime objective was looking for Rick. They slept together, and then Leah just straight up disappeared for a few years until he runs into her again as a reaper. In which by the time this happens Daryl figures out these people are actively trying to hunt down his family. That is hardly what I'd call a gf and bf relationship. Even despite the fact he literally had sex with Leah I'd argue he has more of an intimate connection with people like Carol or Connie even though neither are a romantic relationship. And what Daryl and Leah had you can also barely call a romantic relationship. Daryl got caught up in one of the most vulnerable and desperate situations in his entire life. ANY human interaction would have influenced him at that point. I find it odd that people believe a character like Daryl SHOULD have had an emotional reaction to killing Leah. Was he supposed to react like he did when he found Merle dead or something?
@gagetaylor192 If Daryl had s*x with Leah then Leah would be pregnant anyways. Also i disagree what you said. First 1. You are under age teenage girl with nothing but watching fortnite videos to waste your wife. 2. Nobody going to read your opinion and 3. Go watch World War Z.
The main characters don't die because they have spin-offs. The Commonwealth was pretty lackluster in the comics as it was, and the TV show really needed a few more seasons to flesh them out.
The only episode I liked was EP24 since it felt like I was watching The Walking Dead again instead of some wack Netflix original. This season had so much pointlessly forced drama, lame little conflicts, uninteresting dialogue, among many other things which also include what you said in the vid, but man did they use wayyyy too much field of view effects for the camera, it just felt so uncomfortable, before season 10 they didn’t even use that much field of view and S10 didn’t overuse it.
They got the Star Wars treatment. The white stupid armor, bad shots when plot armor is involved, it's all there. Basically copy and pasted stormtroopers
I love how the WD community is just now seeing how full of plot armor all their fights with other humans are. all it took was the show adding literal storm troopers to the mix to show how bad all the bad guys are at aiming. nice job boys it only took y'all a decade to figure this out.

@@godtalkinshhh Well then don’t make it a fucking zombie show then if the zombies are nothing more than overgrown mosquitoes that the main characters never have to worry about.

Last characters of TWD from TV and comics feels like they're from a comedy show... Princess and these stormtroopers

Wow, I have never noticed that Jake Daniels and Green were those Commonwealth soldiers who were killed by Negan and Elijah.
Neither did I! It was confirmed on the wiki.
Get ready for a small rant…
Now, I don’t have much knowledge on the comics, but from what I saw, the Commonwealth were a legitimate threat that needed to be taken seriously.
Are you talking about those army guys the governor killed?
@@MASTEROFEVIL Yeah, the Georgia Army National Guard unit. Also, Robert Kirkman generally speaking is quite anti-military and it was one of the reasons why the military is portrayed as so incompetent [also because if they were, there would be no show].

In the comic you have one soldier proving their armor is biteproof by walking into a group of zombie. Also just from the look we can already tell that the armor doesnt have any exposed part that let them get bitten easily. They just die cause plot need them to.
At least they aren’t stormtrooper stupid, like they actually shoot the zombies.

Loved how you put Scott gimpe as a threat
I personally had a serious problem with how both the Commonwealth stormtroopers and the Alexandria survivors kept using full auto against the walkers...
Same. I’m rewatching it, constantly saying “switch that shit to semi & put down accurate shots. It’s not hard, no wonder there’s barely ammo left”
@@Skeene60they shouldn’t run out of ammo given that they are in America
I think that resistant boots for crawling zombies, bracers for emergency situations and a miner helmet as a precaution for falling debris and flashlight holder would be all you need as armor against the zombies. Bare minimum protection for unexpected situations and accidents but also full mobility to escape
There was plot armour in prior seasons, but the plot armour among the Commonwealth soldiers was bs. I just couldn’t take them as a threat

They're exactly like Storm Troopers bright white armor to stand out, when they're facing side characters and non important characters they're killing machines but as soon as plot armor kicks in they start to turn incompetent missing all their shots
bruh they got their armour from a starwars paintball arena and their goggles from a scuba diving centre and their scopes on their guns from wish
@@shanenonwolfe4109 ahhh ok makes more sense now. They travelled quite a lot then, knowing they started in Atlanta
Lance Hornsby said most of the soldiers were just “kids in their twenties”
all gunbattles in TWD are kinda plotarmor heavy. even back in the prison they were landing headshot after headshot with guns that had makeshift silencers but when it comes to shoot at people suddenly they are the stromtroopers trying to shoot at Lea and Luke.... it has always been something I felt was offputting
The common wealth are John wick when unimportant characters aren’t there but stromtroopers when they are there
They have to be, this show is a joke, it should be called The Walking Plot Armor. They have characters explaining their plan to the bad guys... man
It’s important to remember these guys were more fit for anti-walker operations, not human v human battles. Although I’m hoping they’ll be better prepared against the CRM.
They are bad even against walkers lol. I know it's just dumb writing, in reality they will be a badass military
In basic they do even more checks on your back ground and if anything comes up you did not tell them during MEPS you are done no Marines or any other branch for you
I'm not going into the marine raider force recon as that is a different animal by itself.

From what I remember the armor is good unless the plot and moment in the story says it's trash. It's a mix of Bad writing and maybe Outdated Training. Bad Writing is the biggest.
You must admit though that they absolutely NAILED Mercer from top to bottom. Dude look like he came RIGHT out of the comic book.
Exactly. The cast became so big yet the stakes become less higher. Really disappointing from Angela Kang to do that.
I remember I continued watching the show a little after season 9 came out, the only text I got was “since when did stormtroopers get added in?”
7:40, to be fair it's a totally different scenario when your shooting at someone unarmed vs someone shooting back. Given that the soldiers never fought anything but walkers the stress lvl of being shot at in plastic body armor would overwhelm their senses causing them to point and shoot instead of aim.
I somehow noticed that the commonwealth's soldiers look like Star Wars soldiers and I can't unsee it.
0:45 Look at this man trying to make money💀
Builds their own sets of armor, can't even withstand a single walker. The fucking riot gear from the prison got glenn past like 10-20 at a time.
Commonwealth soldier's in the comic's we're far superior to there TV portrayal.

it's the storm trooper argument all over again, they wear tons of armor it means they have limited sight lines, they get exhausted more quickly, and also you have you realize their training is quite limited from what we saw in this season
Honestly this is just the typical flaws of bad writing of this show
in the scene (the first that we met commonwealth) a soldier ask princess some questions, omg, anyone else noticed that he was a damn NPC, for example:
Soldier-where are u from

the most incredible thing here is that disney didn't go after AMC for copyright infringement given how aggressive disney has been about enforcing copyrights...
Bad aim in. First shot manages to hit a moving target on a horse several metres away 😂😂
Edit: realised he said while important characters are there they have bad aim my bad
Congrats on 1 mil!🎉🎉🎉🎉

Its just a waste of bullets and makes hitting your shots nearly impossible.
the commenwelth is just basiclly the clone troopers of the walking dead poor training white armour
Commonwealth = Stormtrooper IQ but the aim is better for commonwealth
I promise I have a life.
congrats on 1M man you are growing so fast!
They're basically Imperial Stormtroopers from Star Wars you're not going to be able to hide in anything except for winter and that's been pulling it
Watching the one soldier just stand there not shooting the zombies and then get overwhelmed and ripped in half made me want to vomit.
