    Expiry dates are a marketing gimmick and due to regulations. Keep them out of heat, sunlight, and additional oxygen, they will last a lifetime.

      Bilal Brown Totally agree I’m 43 and I have a bottle of perfume that I had from when I was 17 from Bare Essentials back when they made fragrances. I notice the more Vanilla a fragrance has the more likely it will change color. That doesn’t necessarily change the smell though. As long as they are stored correctly they should be fine. It’s how you can explain the perfumes that are found in Egyptian tombs that still have a smell.

    I think it also depends on the definition of expired. In the past, I used to have only between 1 and 3 fragrances open at the same time, so they never got close to expiring, but since i started to get more creative with the way i smell and have more, i had a few lasting much longer and from my experience, they can definitely change.
    While you are using them regularly at least once every week, you won't notice it, because the changes from week to week are so small, but where I noticed it a lot was when I ran out of a 200ml bottle that I have had for a really long time and went to buy the same fragrance again.
    But just because it changed quite a bit, what some people might already call expired, doesn't mean it turned bad. I still got compliments with it, and people thought i smell good.

    I recently got hold of the old version bottle of Kenzo, L'eau Par Kenzo Pour Homme as I have been wanting to test it to find out if the scent was stronger and had a better longevity. This has been my favorite fragrance since 2002. This scent is from 1999, and bottle I got from an eBay seller in Italy was unused and inside the original plastic sealed box. I think it is about 12-10 years since they changed the bottle to a more square design. What I found out was that the alcohol was more present right after you have sprayed, and I think I smelled a slightly "rusted" scent after that which did stay, compared to the newer bottle.

    I am actually really surprised that some perfumes last so long. As well as proper care with storage and handling, I have read that the ingredients used also makes a difference, eg: citrus based tend not to last as long, where as woody type scents last a little longer. I just acquired some original YSL Jazz today with what appears to be a 2008 batch code stamped on the bottom of the box and matching batch number on the bottom of bottle - which seems about right, i think it was around then (or maybe 2009/2010) that YSL discontinued it. The one that just arrived for me was in pristine condition, still sealed in plastic in its original box. I was skeptical that it would still smell any good, but to my amazement it smells exactly how I remember it from all those years ago. my mind is blown.. all the familiar notes of the fragrance are there and it it is as potent as I remember it being.

  • @awos6559

    I have a question related to this. When you buy perfumes, how old are the ones they sell? Like if you get one at Macy’s or Sephora etc, how old are the ones you buy there?
    I bought one a year ago, but looking at the batch number it seems it had been made like a year prior to that. So, how old are the ones they sell? Shouldn’t a customer know when the product was made??? If I go to buy a perfume today, is it fair to sell me something like a year or two years or possibly more old?! It seems most people are like me, they go and try a perfume and like it and buy it. But how many people know how old it is? This to me sounds like a loophole that perfume customers need to understand. If these perfumes expire, then shouldn’t customers know when they were made?! How many people check this?! Or even know how to check this? Will somebody explain to me how this issue works for perfume sellers like in malls. My perfume according to the date of manufacture I googled, by looking at its batch number was made in 2018. I bought it about a year later last winter in 2019. It’s now a year later winter 2020. If it’s going to expire etc then, shouldn’t I have got a newer one instead of one a year old?! Is it ok to ask sellers to get me a newer one when I buy a perfume?! My perfume still smells great, and I hope it continues to do so for long cause I’ve barely used even a quarter of it!!! But if they expire or lose their scent as they age, then it seems sellers shouldn’t be selling older batches!!! It seems like they should be selling at most something like 6 months or so! How do they deal with this issue?! And how do other buyers and perfume lovers sea with this issue?! Thanks!!!

I cannot say it smells 1000% exactly like when it was new but if my nose cannot detect differently, who would? I don’t even have the box and keep it casually in my closet with my other fragrances. Don’t bother about the expiration of fragrances. That’s all marketing gimmicks so you get paranoid and buy fresh batches. Just keep them in a cool dark place and put the cap on.

      Don't worry about it. The 36 months start from when you open it. But if it was stored in ideal condition, like away from direct sunlight, it should last long. I have perfumes that I bought way back in 2008 and they still smell great. One of the indications that they have gone bad is that you would mostly smell alcohol.

      If their unopened with box do it. I just bought 3 ultraviolet man from 2001 from eBay and opened one of them and it smells amazing! Same scent and performance as I remember. I prefer buying old unopened fragrances than a new reformulated crap.

    Bro give me sugest.... Actually i already buy my favorite parfume and wanna keep them without unboxing, so the condition is a NEW sealed box parfume fresh from the store. Whats is the goal? Because im afraid sometimes they discontinue this fragrance.
    My question, it is safe to keep the sealed box of parfume into a cool dark place without unboxing for a long long time???

    If the perfume is unboxed, still packed, will it ever expire?

    • @pinkcrazygirl
      @pinkcrazygirl 3 года назад +1

      I know I'm late but if anyone is still interested: Yes, unopened perfume does expire. However, if you keep it away from humidity and heat, it should last a couple of years.

      I really appreciate it, because I was not aware it was that good 🙏🏻.
      Part of my English I learned in school and the rest in real life, watching TV and listening to the pronunciation. We also use to add words in English to our Romanian vocabulary, like people from Japan do. Last but not least, making videos in English helped a lot :).

    I have 8 and 10 years old bottles and they are perfectly fine, I have a bottle where a color changed a little, but it still smells the same, but have a few new fragrances that are only a year or two old and for some reason they no longer lasts as they lasted before, in other words became way weaker in performance while still smelling perfectly fine.

    • @ifishares
      @ifishares  6 лет назад

      One of them is Sauvage from first 2015 batches, which I bought right from boutique at the launch. Who knows, maybe it was exposed to heat or sealed improperly, at first it was stunning performer, after a year or so its performance dropped by half, rebought new bottle which is 2016 batch and it is fantastic to this day. The other scent is from Zara, had a really good performance, after about half a year or so it became weaker and weaker, smells the same but no longer lasts.

    I inherited a ton of older colognes from an uncle, one of them being Ralph Lauren Romance Silver. Turns out the bottle is 14 years. Unfortunately, I've never smelled it new, but the bottle I has a strong fresh tobacco scent, is that how it's supposed to smell? I don't really want to throw away a $200 bottle of cologne. 😅

    • @carloscolom6477

      ifishares No. But I have so many. How many will expire? Also after this past hurricane we went 8 months without electricity during summers high heat. Many frags lost their opening notes. Fahrenheit le Parfum, Dior Sayvage, CDNIM, plus who know how many I havent used yet. As soon as you open a bottle and pump the dprayer any filth in the air around will get intiduced onto the bottle..eventually it will do some damage as it grows inside. Tjats just the way bottles work.
      GOOD subject as always.
