    Bro, I found an old bottle of Adidas Moves in my dad's storage a couple years ago. It was from around 2000-2001(pre Axe) and it still smelled the same! We're talking 18-19 years. Blew my mind!

      Same here my friend and honestly as long as they are kept outa the direct sunlight and away from like a radiator or direct heat source there gona be fine some obviously because of the EU de toilette and heavy alcohol but most will be fine

    I appreciate this video. I graduated from high school in 2000, and I wore "Drakkar Noir", "Acqua di Gio", "Polo Green", "Michael Jordan Cologne", "Nautica", "Hugo", "Aspen", and "Preferred Stock" when I was in middle school/high school. Have you tried the current formulation of "Michael Jordan Cologne"? Its scent/performance doesn't seem to be anywhere near as special as it once was. However, I've noticed that "Michael Jordan Legend" is still good. I took your advice (and advice from other fragrance reviewers too) by keeping my fragrances out of humidity and direct sunlight, and I hope for the best because I spent a lot of money on my pretty large fragrance collection.

    Those that think fragrances expire need a blues clue lmao. It soaks in freaking ALCOHOL. Does expensive 100 year old wine from a cellar go bad? No it macerates and gets better! They recovered perfume from the Titanic wreck that still smelled lovely. Even top notes are still there - many will convince themselves the tops are gone when in reality its just the trends of that time they are smelling - they didn't use top notes back then like they did now. I got a Drakkar Noir giftset from 30 years ago and everything was undeniably off- the deodorant, lotion, bar of soap all slightly off chemically or no scent at all - the eau de toilette though - untouched by time! I think the fact that fragrances don't go bad make them even more precious to me. They are time capsules that don't age. 'Antiques' you can still use. If you leave it in the sun or heat thats another story. I have polo bottles from the 70-s they are stunning.

    • @leolemke8338

    • @nunayadamnbusiness

      Some fragrances do go bad, especially if not stored correctly.. The same way wine or champagne does.

    • @jaymartinson3236

      You are right that standard fragrences made from synthetics won't go bad if stored properly. Most fragrences fall in this category.
      But some high-end houses use natural oils that will go bad or change the way they smell after a few years.

    • @kdworak4754
      @kdworak4754 Год назад +1

      Wine does not just get better and better with time even in the best of conditions.... thats not how it works. For example if they pick the grapes late you can only age the wine for about 3-5 years before it starts to go the other way. Luckily for us fragrances are not fermenting fruit... theyre oils and alcohol.

      where i live its cold at night and hot as hell at daytime, i cant afford to have AC, do you think that natural temperature fluctuations like that that i cant avoid would affect my fragances? i store them inside a drawer with their original box, but i notice that even if i store them properly the envorinment temperature somehow reaches the inside of drawer and at night my bottles feel cold and at daytime they feel hotter... even tho the drawer is airtight the envirnonmental temperature hits the inside of it and that makes me very frustrated, i have no other " good spots" to store them , what would u recommend to me? would love to hear your opinion.

      Don’t keep them in the box bro that’s probably why the heat and cold are getting trapped in there. Just leave them out in the closet somewhere that’s what I do. My closet is typically fresher than my room cause I keep it dark never turn the light on lol.

    Dude! I thought i was the only one that still enjoyed Aspen. It is an out of the shower fragrance for me. It's really a nostalgia thing for me and i picked it up for $7 (4oz) after looking up a coupon code from a popular discounter. I loved cool water, Aspen and Tommy back in the 90's. Own bottles of all 3 and they're all out of the shower fragrances. I'll wear them on days off around the house on a rare occasion. Cool water wave and Nautica voyage are my favorite out of the shower/lazy days off fragrances. Gonna be in the 90's here in Eastern Kansas this week so my hot weather fragrances will get to shine. Thinking either summer vibes or Versace man eau fraiche tomorrow. The other will be worn the day after. Take care man

    Oldest bottle of fragrance I still have is a bottle of Dune by Christian Dior that I bought back in 97-98. Only have about 30% left as I used to wear it like crazy in the late 90s-early 2000s. Sprayed it a few months ago and it still smells fantastic. Thought about getting another bottle off eBay even though I heard it's been reformulated.

    Mr Ross, honestly I think it may be luck of the draw, & the ingredients that was used to develope the scent. I have a bottle of Drakkar from when it originally came out that reeks of Alcohol--but CK's Eternity and my Givenchy's PI original bottles that pretty much smell the same as I remember. The good & bad about being a collector--you get to the point where there is no way you can give every scent their just do and attention. The hope is that you actually get to enjoy them while you can! Side note--I had a bottle of Avatar that I got from a Kmart! I Had some work done on my car--& the mechanic liked the smell--so I gave him the bottle!! Regretted that move years later--since I cant find it anymore!! As always my guy! Great video and we appreciate you!

    I see most of the comments say otherwise but I recently sprayed a bottle of Polo Blue which had been in my drawer for several years & it smells horrible. Regarding the Adidas, the one I got from my dad while in Uni and I bought it back (now finished) is the Ice Dive. A co worker bought the Get Ready set for me one Christmas.
    I liked Aspen growing up. Even bought one. Found out it had galbanum, but it wasn't enough to summon a headache like a grey flannel and noir anthracite. There's a Bod fragrance that reminds me of it - Really Ripped Abs

    Awesome video and makes me remember as lot of the history that I went through. However, back during my growing up, I did not care for fragrances (believe it or not). Fragrance, in my experience and household, was something to add to the presentation of a good suit, like icing on a very delicious cake. Going to church, to a special event, maybe out on the town...those were the prime times to wear a fragrance and my father wore his fair share: YSL M7, Lanvin Avant Garde & Oxygene Homme, Azzarro Chrome, Givenchy Very Irresistible, Bvlgari Pour Homme, and others. Even though he wore all of that, I never got into it much. I would wear Drakkar Noir to church every now and then, maybe wore Michael Jordan Cologne or Tommy for Men when I was in middle school. I got little "budget" sample sets for Christmas with Gray Flannel, Curve for Men, Paul Sebastian Fine Cologne, and Halston Z-14...in which I wasn't too fond of those. And I mostly evaded fragrance counters like the plague when we went to Boston Store after looking at those crazy prices for standard and higher designer stuff, lol. Once I got out of college and branched out, though, that's when I discovered YT and all the fragrances that I'd missed out on, especially the premium and niche fragrances that I'd never heard of. And those experiences changed my perception of fragrance from just being something "boring" or something to "just throw on to smell good" to being an olfactory and artistic experience that could be shared by many.

    I have a bottle of LC Curve that belonged to my father that he left sitting in the cabinet underneath his bathroom sink for years. I hadn't looked up the batch code, but I remember him having that same bottle since I want to say 2009. It smells super salty and sour now, but I can still pick up the floral and citrus aromatics.
    Also, I have one of the first launch batches of Bleu De Chanel edt from when my mom got it for me working at Macy's. it was my signature scent in high school and I did NOT take care of it! I used to keep it in my backpack and in my high school gym locker. That's right, not my REGULAR locker, my GYM locker! The bottle is chipped because of moving, and it stayed in a shoebox for a long time in my dad's basement, and when I spray it, the citruses are definitely spoiled, but I still get the warm woods and incense through the mid and dry down

  • @Farfignewton29
    @Farfignewton29 2 года назад

    I agree with this for the most part. They will last a very long time, If stored properly. But even that doesn’t do it sometimes. I have a half bottle of Bleu de Chanel EDT from the year of release and the top notes are most definitely not quite there anymore. I think the top notes burning off affect citrus notes primarily. The dry-downs are usually just fine though.

    If you store them away from the sun and tempe that fluctuate, they actually get better with time. Just be careful when buying them, never know what the original person did. I read that manufacturers have to put an expiration date on them for shelf stocking purposes, just like vitamins or ibuprofen, do they really expire? I don’t see how unless they are in fluctuating temps and or sitting in the sun.

    I've got a bottle that was given to me from a good friend of mine back in the late 80s and still have it from a fragrance house and product line called Crabtree and evelyn nomad the vintage bottle with what looks like a prince or a king or whatever youd call him on a horse and it's still good and it kinda reminds me of ARAMIS colone very similar and I've been offered $$ and it's not faded or spoiled I keep it in the original box it's a 100ml and only missing a quarter of it and only wear it on my Anniversary because it's one of the ones my wife first smelled on me when we met and it's still very very Good...

    I have two bottles, one of the Empire Cologne by Trump and the Success aftershave i snagged at Ross' a few years ago. Doesn't look like it will go up in value so will just use them up. Actually they both smell pretty good.

    I thought those Ed Hardys had a little bit of a tart citrus to begin with. The hearts and daggers has a little sharpness up top with that sweetness.

    I'll never stop wearing Ed Hardy unless they disappear lol. Oddly enough I feel like the one with the tiger is way ahead of its time. Other brands are just now catching up to that warm sweet ambery smell. Its dope 😁🤙

    Here's a fun fact about the Adidas Stripes. In 1952, following the 1952 Summer Olympics in Finland, Adidas acquired its signature three stripe branding from Karhu Sports, for two bottles of whiskey and the equivalent of €1,600

    For years, I've laughed at the "experts" who said that compact disks would go bad. And when the "experts" say that fragrance goes bad after 3 years, I laugh at them, too. No doubt, that is what the retailers would like us to believe.

    • @jaymartinson3236

      Some CD's do degrade over time.
      I had it happen to a bunch of mine from the 90s. The metallic surface can eventually degrade and start flaking off, or the plastic disk discolors to the point that it can't be read.
      There some fragrences that do go bad within a few years, as well. Those are usually expensive ones that use all natural oils, though. Your run-of-the-mill fragrence made with synthetics should last many MANY years if kept out of light and at a stable temperature.

    • @BertRussell4711
      @BertRussell4711 Год назад

      @@jaymartinson3236 A "bunch" of your CDs have degraded?? Over the course of a few decades, I have collected over 1,500 CDs, both new and used, including many from the 90's, and while I may have experienced the occasional error on a disc, those errors became apparent on first listen, soon after the disks were acquired, so they would have been scratches or manufacturing defects. What's more, I don't have a single disc that exhibits the kind of "flaking" or "discoloration" you mentioned. So, either you've treated your collection very poorly, or you're just making s**t up. 🤷‍♂
      As for niche fragrances, I don't buy those, so I'll have to take your word for it, though it would seem that I have reason to doubt that too. 😏

    • @jaymartinson3236
      @jaymartinson3236 Год назад

      @kamakiriad8795 Yup. A decent amount, maybe 10-20 out of a hundred or so of them. It happened to a few laser disks, too.
      They were stored in a cd case in a temperature controlled environment. Sometimes, things just break down over time.

    • @BertRussell4711
      @BertRussell4711 Год назад

      @@jaymartinson3236 10-20%?? 😧 Have you been eating off of them? Using them as coasters?
      As it happens, this weekend, I'm going through hundreds of music CDs that I've had stored in the garage for over a decade, and I'm ripping any tracks worth listening to. To be clear, my garage is not a "temperature controlled environment"; on the contrary, it's been subject to increasingly hot summers, so these discs, of varying age and quality, have been exposed to extremes in temperature. I'm sure you can guess where I'm going with this: so far, not a single one of these CDs has exhibited _any_ _deterioration_ _whatsoever_ , in either appearance or functionality, including flawless play on my cheap CD burner.
      Indeed, sometimes, things just don't break down over time.

    • @jaymartinson3236
      @jaymartinson3236 Год назад

      @kamakiriad8795 About that many, yeah. The "burned" CDs were the worst of them, but there were some that I bought at the store that did it as well. I was especially bummed out about Offspring Americana because that was the first album I ever purchased and I wanted to hold onto it.

    I still have 2 bottles of "camp Beverly Hills " from the early 90's unopened. And several bottles of "FULL THROTTLE" that was put out around 2008. That was from the AMERICAN CHOPPER GUYS. I guess that's why so many people refrigerate their fragrances. I didn't even think that they could expire?
