Pretty great tutorial as always! English Civil War (and 30 Years War) are an awesome period for beginner historical wargamers. You can barely do anything wrong in terms of equipment colours as the era saw little to no standardisation in gear. Also who doesn't like Pikes and Muskets? :D
It also has a wide range of variations in the troops. You've got lightly armoured infantry in regards to your pikemen and muskets alongside heavily armoured cuirassiers, ostentatious Landsknechts and larger black powder weapons.
A good job. I paint my figures in a backwards fashion in that I would have painted the hair, flesh, cross belts and bag before doing the coat. It allows me to use a big brush to slap it on before doing the coat and breechs. Then its shading and highlighting.
Excellent video and very instructive. You make it look so simple! I find your painting videos really helpful by the way that you break down the process into simple steps. Any chance of some more Pike and Shotte painting tutorials please? It would be a great help to a lot of us wargamers if you could do a similar tutorial on some of the Warlord Napoleonic figures such as French and Russians etc. Thanks again.
There will definitely be some more Pike & Shotte videos coming, It's an interesting period and one that I haven't tackled yet. I'm not sure about the Napoleonics at the moment, it's still quite an unknown era for myself, but maybe in the future :)
I have been struggling to replicate the flesh finish you achieve. I seem to keep getting a very stark difference between the base colour and the highlight. Any suggestions on where I may be going wrong? Cheers
Thanks :) I'm starting with pikeman's lament and will use the warlordgames miniatures. I will apply your instructions with red instead of blue for my new model army infantry. Any chance you'll show us how to paint horses?

More pike and shot era content! Love it!
Impressive technique and great tuto, love the flesh tones...
Can you do a tutorial on Scottish Covenanters?
Really cool looking miniature, almost want to buy a set of these just for the hell of it.
£12.00 for 18 miniatures isn't a bad price really: store.warlordgames.com/products/thirty-years-war-firelock-storming-party
Very informative; thank you!
Looks amazing! Really glad I found your channel.

Tamiya paint jar with blue tack! That's how I've been painting for 30 years!
Any chance of other famous regiments? Newcastle's Whitecoats, Cromwell's Ironsides, Okey's Dragoons?
Please, do more on Pike and Shot! Reiters would be nice.

I'm going to use it for my 30 years war Swedish... Sadly there is not a lot of painting related information available.
Love your stuff!
Grey knight tutorial :) ??
Thanks for the suggestion, I will keep that in mind.
Got to one and a half minutes and gave up. I have a hundred and fifty models to paint, I haven’t got time to faff around like that!
