I have won a few matches with mine, with norma tac 22. I bought a locking collar as a cheap barrel tuner. Guys that were shooting 1k dollar rifles were just shocked as to how accurate it was. Savage builds a darn fine rifle. I wish I had bought the threaded version because now I have a supressor.
I've put a couple of shaft collars on a few of my rifles too. Though a Harrell's or E.C. Tuner would LOOK better it's amazing what the collars duplicate/achieve for pennies on the dollar. Guess it boils down to are you a shooter or a poser.
I got my MK II F last year for $200 new. Put on a Vortex Copperhead 4-12x44 on EGW rail. I am surprised with Eley Target I can get 1-inch groups outdoors at 103 yards.
I bought a Savage MKII BTV (Boyd's Thumbhole, heavy barrel) for my wife. I was SO impressed with the accuracy she got that a week later, I bought one for myself. Both average under 1/2" at 50 yards with CCI SV ammo. Both also do just as well with Norma TAC-22
I've done the same project. needed to bore out the fore end of the stock. it was making contact. also bedded the mount. I only shoot cci target but I'm reaching out to 250yards on 4" steel. 80% accuracy when the wind is good.
I shoot a Savage Mk.2 match barrel, floated and bedded. 25 MOA rail, Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50. Using CCI Standard. Rifle performance is great, no issues except with the magazines.
Dug an old MKII out of the gun safe today. It had a bit of surface rust , but that cleaned up fairly easy. Shot about 80 rds, iron sites. Got about 1.5 moa at 50 yrds, not too bad.
I just shot my 93F no accutrigger and I’m sighted in at 50 yards shooting I was putting them in the hole at the top of your Caldwell target with a vortex 3x9x40. Took it out to 160 yards it was shooting two hash marks low on my scope at that distance. I’d trust it enough to take a head shot on a coyote at 160 yards, yes I’m that confident in my 93f. I was shooting bulk federal 550 purple box. These savages can shoot!
Looks like you ended up with a Savage Mark II TR that is what I have and shoots great right out of the box thinking of getting the same stock for my FVT. also shoots great but like the stock on the TR , much better.
I have the same rifle and I agree that when properly configured with the right ammo it shoots well. That having been said, I think one would be better off, if cost is not the overriding consideration, that the purchase of a better quality gun such as the CZ 457 is a better buy. The CZ is qualitatively better, especially the trigger, the Accutrigger pales in comparison, and after one adds the cost of the Boyd's stock and trigger guard the CZ is within striking distance. What is more the CZ allows for interchangeable barrels so that one may have three rimfires in one. I think, if cost is a major consideration, the Ruger American may be a better buy because of the configuration of the stock Just my opinion! Good videos!
On the outside looking in I would agree with you. However I sold a CZ455 Tacticool when I bought this rifle originally and honestly when shooting the IBS style targets this Savage has posted more consistent scores than that CZ did. Granted this is just a sample size of one and would it hold true in most cases probably not. However, for this one rifle I have to say Ill take it over the CZ. Thanks for watching!
I looked for a cheaper 22-caliber bolt action rifle that I wouldn't have to do much to it other than change the trigger spring. The RAR fit the bill costing me $400, and a cheap box of 22-caliber ammunition CCI/SV cost me $4.65 per box. Well, I thought that much cannot come from this cheap rifle by Ruger. Range day, boy, I was surprised, that RAR @50 yards five rounds of CCI/SV grouped .55" , here comes mister wind. It did so well, I ordered up Vortex PST 5-25 -Gen II FFP cost me $800 for a $400 rifle. I may upgrade to something better in the future, I shall see.
I wish you would've tested it with just the stock upgrade, then the scope upgrade. Just a better reticle, let along the magnificent, could've improved a person''s shooting that much. Aside from that, thank you for testing this and sharing. You spent some coin on all those targets and ammo. Much obliged, and I'm sure you had fun in the process!
I have mkii fv my question is on the back of the chamber there isn't even a breakage or a chamfer where the bullet goes into the chamber I'm wondering if that's normal or if they skipped an operation when manufacturing the gun because when I chamber a round it just scratches my bullet is it goes into the chamber period and it's a pretty deep gouge that's happening
I just bought a Savage MarkII FV. The very first thing I did was clean the barrel and bore scope it. It WAS terrible. Burrs in the chamber and hack marks about 17 inches down the barrel. I was very disappointed with Savage. But like you. I am doing a complete make over on this rifle. Including a different barrel. Because with videos like yours. I am sure I can make it shoot. So I have one question. Have you or are you going to bore scope the barrel? I would be interested in what you find. I hope I just have a fluke. Thanks for your video.
Machining marks are not uncommon on budget produced rifles. Savage is KNOWN for out-of-box accuracy even with all the defects (borescoping causes more dissatisfaction for the average owner than the owner's actual capabilities). Lead lap the barrel before dumping money into a new barrel.
Looking forward to buy Savage Mark II, but don't know what to choose - either SAVAGE MARK II FV-SR - .22LR, 16.5" or SAVAGE MARK II FV - .22LR, 21". Could you provide your opinion, please. Just for small game and fun.
4.5" of maneuverability with the shorter barrel is insignificant in the ranges that small game hunting scenarios generally occur. Shorter barrels usually provide 50-75 fps slower velocities per inch, meaning more drop at same distance. Study up........
Yeah honestly I think that is the weak link in this rifle being the trigger. I cant get it any lower than about 2lbs. If It was around a pound or so I bet that would help a lot also.. Thanks for watching!
It was a great scope just left a little to be desired in the clarity department at higher magnification. This scope has since been replaced on this rifle and upgraded to a Element Titan. Thanks for watching!
I really am liking the scopes from Element optics. Supreme glass quality for a really reasonable price. However, my go to brands tend to be either Burris or Leupold. Thanks for watching!
Good...but......statistically it seems a draw. Of the 3 brands of ammo....it shot worse 2 out of 3 times ( re: "group-size") after the "upgrades". Then , for the accuracy test, using the IBS 50 yd target, it did better. So...OK on that. So all-told, some better, and some worse. We need to then ask....is this all "wash" as to larger-data-lot .....data collection?.....or even, "I shoot it better now with some familiarity?". Was hoping instead for consistent-trends as to improvement.... not seeing that.
Hard to say nowadays. The standard model in the factory stock was sold for 199.99 here were Im at but thats been a few years back.. Thanks for watching.

If it isn't broken, don't fix it. Great specimen and video, Dave & The Girls
Thanks for watching!
Changing the torque up and down on the action screw . Is a common way to tighten groups with .22 rifles.
Very true, i may have to play around with that also. Thanks for watching!
I was thinking the same thing.
How so? Can you link a video explaining?

Thats great to hear. Thanks for watching!!
Your videos never disappoint. Thank You
Thanks for watching!
Best results Ive seen from a savage rimfire yet.
Those lil competition targets you got are really cool and look like a ton of fun....i wonder what my factory mk2fvsr would do on one. Cool video!
I see you're prepping for September! :) Great stuff. Looks like you have found a good and affordable combo!
Well Ill be there, thats about all I can guarantee lol.
Count me in for September. -Doug B
Bought 1 of these for my granddaughter. Tac driver out of the box. 50-75 yards. Haven't stretched it out.
Great to hear, thanks for watching!
Good shooting convinced me to buy one! Mess with the action screw 2 in lbs at a time I'm sure you can get it even better!
It really surprised me that the CCI'S didn't group tighter with the better set up you have ..
I thought the same... Thanks for watching!
I shoot a Savage Mk.2 match barrel, floated and bedded. 25 MOA rail, Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50.

I agree the mags are the only down side to these rifles.. Thanks for watching..

Don't take it squirrel hunting with that MOA.

Yes they can..
It's hard to ask for more than 233 from a budget rifle. I don't know if my skills warrant $22 a box ammo. Great video
Very true... Thanks for watching!!
Picked one up last week and it really seems to like the federal automat I got a half inch moa at 50 yards
Looks like you ended up with a Savage Mark II TR that is what I have and shoots great right out of the box thinking of getting the same stock for my FVT. also shoots great but like the stock on the TR , much better.

I got my full sized RAR before Covid for under 300.
But I had to rework the crown to get the smaller groups.

For those purposes id go with the FV SR the shorter barrel would be a lot better for maneuverability. Thanks for watching!

More midas plus, please...lighter trigger mite help, love the videos on 22lr rifles
Yeah honestly I think that is the weak link in this rifle being the trigger. I cant get it any lower than about 2lbs. If It was around a pound or so I bet that would help a lot also.. Thanks for watching!
How much torque on the action screws with that pro varmint stock?
Great video!!
Thanks for watching..
you don't say the distance you are shooting at in any of these videos. 100 yards?
The 22lr shooting is done at 50yrds. Thanks for watching.
@@TheHide cool thanks!
thats really not a bad price for the Lapua it was $17 a box over 10 years ago
Very true..
Good shooting!
I know im about a year late lol , but how do you like that 6.5-20 burris ??
It was a great scope just left a little to be desired in the clarity department at higher magnification. This scope has since been replaced on this rifle and upgraded to a Element Titan. Thanks for watching!
Looks great
Thanks! Appreciate ya watching!
Your upgrades should have started by lightening that trigger.
What height rings are those?
I believe those are mediums. Thanks for watching.
Shoot the Midas ammo on the IBS Rim fire target
Im gonna have to!
What scopes do you recommend? Thanks
I really am liking the scopes from Element optics. Supreme glass quality for a really reasonable price. However, my go to brands tend to be either Burris or Leupold. Thanks for watching!
Your rifle looks like it has the old round knob on the bolt.
I just order 3 for my kids
Awesome, stay safe and shoot straight!!
what is that rail for the scope
EGW, thanks for watching!
Cool 😎
Thanks for watching!
savage mark ll loves cci ar tactical
Great round for the price..

Keep tweaking, you'll be surprised even more !!
I think so too! Thanks for wathcing!
Shooting from a sled. Or just a bipod? Bull bag?
Front rest rear bag, thanks for watching!
You wont win any matches in Iowa or missouri with a 233 2x 🤨
Where can I get this gun for less than 200$
Hard to say nowadays. The standard model in the factory stock was sold for 199.99 here were Im at but thats been a few years back.. Thanks for watching.
u shot better with the factory stock..
