I've had this rifle since before covid. With it i have hit a black bird at 105 yards, repeatedly hit a 10" gong at 273 yards, and am impressed by it how well it shoots. Mags and stock are bad, but still well worth the money!

    I've owned a Savage Mk.2 22LR for a while.
21" heavy barrel, Boyd AT-ONE stock floated and bedded, topped with an Athlon Argos BTR 6-24 scope on a 25MOA rail. My best group with CCI Standard Velocity 40gr, was under an inch at 100yds.
Very happy with the way this rifle performs.

I own a lot of 22's and I have this model. It is a tack driver. For the price, I have never regretted buying it. I love my CZ, Tikka, Bergara, and a host of 10/22's, but when I want to spend a day just beating around the desert shooting ground squirrels, the Savage comes along once in a while. It takes a good beating and keeps on working.

I have to agree with you, it is a viable option. You know if you got a different stock and a suppressor. And mid-range optic. I think it would do just fine and the nice thing about that rifle is you could start out very economically and always add to the fire

i think the mark ii is underrated. i recently bought the fvsr, did a trigger job and got it down to a hair over one pound. polished the bolt, and lapped the crown. with sk rifle match, eley club and eley contact it will do 0.2-0.5 all day long at 50 yards… it doesn’t have the fit and finish of my cz but it’s just as accurate after the tweaking i did!

#1- check your mounts. Decrease and remount with blue (242) Loctite.
#2- Ring alignment may be off putting stress on your scope tube.
#3- check action screw torque. Most .22LRs have a max of 40 inch pounds. Many manufacturers recommend even less.
#4- play around with torque tuning your action. You'll need a torque wrench. (Harbor Freight has an acceptable 1/4" model for around $20.)
#5- check crown of muzzle for nicks.

It’s hard for a pellet to hang with the BC of a real bullet at longer ranges. I do believe it’s hard for any bullet to be as accurate as a pellet. Pellets are just inherently stable not to mention the standard deviation on decent air rifles is like 1 fps or less lol. My typical match 22 ammo has a standard deviation of about 6

Accuracy has never been the concern for the Savages - it’s the reliability and fit-and-finish issues. They just feel like something I’d cobble together in the shed after too many pulls at the rye whisky. The receiver and bolt look like bits of old pipe cut and fitted with a hacksaw and file. The finish feels like the last few ounces out of cheap rattle can. But that’s nothing compared to the feed, extraction and ejection issues I’ve seen. I love the idea of an accurate 22 for ~$240 but feel like it’ll never be more than that regardless of the upgrades I throw at it.
