I am so glad to see you guys doing more budget 22lr builds. We all need to get the younger generations into this sport and off the eyephone. I think you may need to try a different ammo.
@@midwest_long_range im 23 and since im poor i literally only shoot 22lr and have gotten really good with my mark iv and dedicated 22 upper but want a bolt but it sucks bc im left eye dominant and the savage is the only left hand option that isnt cz or tikka and the cz left hand just came out and in 2022 and seems like its perpetually out of stock, unless you go over 1-2k for a rimx or v22 it just seems like not many midrange options
@@coal_tacticalfor what it is worth… EVERY trainer I have talked to, including guys who had been hitters, highly recommends .22lr, and one guy went as far as to say that people who don’t shoot .22 are shorting themselves. I shoot 30k+ rounds a year, and at least 25k are .22. The skills you gain there will transfer across platforms and calibers. That’s been my experience anyway. Keep at it!!!
Chris the boyds stock is nice but not so much on the inside they remove way too much wood needed for support. The two inner support pads don’t even touch most of the time. I found my best accuracy with 25 in pounds of torque on the action screws because of that reason. I actually pillar and bedded my savage btvss and it can shoot one hole 5 shot groups at 50 yards. Appreciate the video, at least you bring out rifles that normal shooters purchase. The savage was my starter and it’s nice to see others show it’s possibilities.
I have had a Savage Mark II TR for 8 years or more... and it was very accurate with good ammo (SK). However, I recently noted that the bolt moved in an odd manner when fired. I checked the headspace with a no-go gauge; the rifle failed the test. Then I disassembled the barrel (GREAT BARREL) from the receiver (2 roll pins). Other than an expensive gunsmith repair or trash the rifle were my options. I checked the price of a new Savage TR versus the price of a CZ Varmint MTR; for a few dollars more, the CZ with much better barrel-to-receiver quality assembly was my choice. If one must wait for the right rifle, even a year is not too long in my opinion when the rifle will last a long time (or 8-years for my ex-Savage).
From what i've seen from Ruger Barrels in the past i'd lead lap that barrel. I wouldn't get crazy with Lapping it but enough to smooth it out. I've lapped a few RPR barrels for customers and it made a huge difference. I'd look at it with a bore scope next time you clean it. i'll bet you'll be surprised how rough it is.
Mine loves the cci standard as well. I have tried 6 different brands of standard velocity and 3 brands of high velocity and so far cci standard velocity wins by a long shot.
May not make much difference, but I'd be curious to see what happens if you get the scope bell off the barrel, looks like it is making pretty solid contact. Thank you for the vid, I've got a MKII FVSR on my shortlist of next purchases.
Which Savage model with the 22 inch barrel is fluted? I found the fv-sr but its a 16 inch barrel. I prefer the 22inch just need the model number. Thanks for doing a very, very budget build for us beginners.
I bought 2 of these rifles around 2010...both did not shoot less than 1 1/2 inches at 50 yards. I was pretty upset after shooting CCI Green Tag, Federal Gold Medal, Eley, RWS, and SK. Optic was a proven Leupold 2-7x32mm that was mounted correctly. free float was verified with an index card. Action screws were torqued properly. I tried torque values from 20 inch pounds all the way to 45 inch pounds in 5 inch-pound increments. After all that, I tried Winchester Wildcat and it shot 7/8" at 50 yards. I sold them as is to people who wanted to use it as a sheep rifle where they take it with them to watch over their herd of sheep to protect them from coyotes and wild dogs. They were happy with the Wildcat ammunition accuracy and very simple 4x20mm Tasco scope I bought to sell it with. The scopes did well for what they wanted it for. Those 2 rifles were real head scratchers for me. Got myself a CZ 452 and 455 down the road and am happy with them.
Hi Chris, thanks for paying attention on this rifle! I have MarkII FVSR in MDT and she likes SK Rifle Match and Lapua Midas+. She can 0.7-0.9 MOA on 50m
My savage mk2 did the same thing for first 300 rounds or so I finally figured out mine likes eley match the best. I am looking at Boyd’s stock just haven’t figured out the exact one
So give me your opinion .. I am on a budget but wanted a entry level .22 to target shoot so I bought a new Savage MKII fv-sr and it has a crappy plastic stock with no cheek riser (which I don't get when the rifle is made for a scope) do you NOT recommend a Boyds Pro Varmint then? What would you suggest if I want to upgrade
I know you said you wanted to keep the original barrel, but I would love to see a rebarrel. I’ve yet too see a custom barrel mk2, no one gives them any love.
Depends on what you want out of it. Most times the barrel channel needs to be clearanced for free floating the barrel, pillar need to be added and clearanced so that the action can be mounted truly straight etc. but if you are just plinking and not worried about precision it’s fine
ARA rules, if you shoot the same target 2x, it's a zero. You can still shoot after that and shoot any you missed. Just the one with 2x shots is a zero.
THANK YOU JOSH ...! ! ! IT'S NICE TO WATCH SOME RIFLES THAT ARE IN RANGE FOR PEOPLE NOW DAYS .. ? ? ? COST IS EVERY THING IN TODAY'S WORLD ...?? .. IT'S $$$ , $$$ , $ $ $ $ AMMO OUT THE ROOF , IF YOU GOT A ROOF HERE IN OKLAHOMA ... !!!! RIFLES ... OUT OF SIGHT ... !!!! DOUBLE G. HERE .. 'GARY" ... !!!
Is there a website you get your targets from? Currently I just pick up a batch from Bi Mart, Sporsman's, etc but would like to use what I see on many RUclips Channels for once. Thanks! And it will be interesting to see how this budget build turns out. P.S. I've really enjoyed my CZ now that I got some mag's.
Oh wow this will be a great series and display how anybody can get into the game without breaking the bank. If you would like, I can email you a detailed PDF guide I created for MKII modifications. Action work, trigger work, safety, extraction, etc. It is accurate, but crude
You are using garbage ammo. I put my TR in a Boyd's Rimfire Hunter stock and increased the action screws torque to 30 in/lb. It likes Eley SABR. I replaced the trigger spring and added a Harrell's tuner. It is now a 1/2 moa shooter at 100 yds. I bought a brick of Tenex from Bud's when they had it on sale for $14.50 a box. It REALLY likes this Lot of Tenex. Not going to pay the regular price for Tenex.
Why are you making excuses on how bad the MKII shoots. How can you expect low tier shelf guns to shoot a perfect group? Aren't you expecting too much out of a product that can't meet the quality that it's not design for?
I am so glad to see you guys doing more budget 22lr builds. We all need to get the younger generations into this sport and off the eyephone. I think you may need to try a different ammo.
Try the Norma Red Match but the black box tac-22 did tighten up on the last groups.
Definitely gonna run some different types of ammo in it. I definitely hope that the younger generation begins to get more envolved

I have the plain savage mark 2 fv. With cci standard velocity shoots a better group
Mine shot about the same until I stumbled upon blazer yes blazer though my barrel was really rough inside. I too love the budget builds.
I’m gonna test some other ammo but I was also thinking about recutting the crown and chamber as well later on in the process
@@midwest_long_range Let me know how it goes I was told directly by Savage that after 2011 these were not made to have the barrel removed.

Cci standard velocity. My savage loves em. Takes 15 to get it to come back around after trying other pills 👍

It was close but was not making contact. It seems like a solid budget rifle so far
Thanks. With the proper care of the bore and chamber, the Savage MK II FV SR can be a great shooter. Blessings

no problem and thank for the recommendations.
Awesome man!! My mark ii took about 400 rounds to tighten up. Love mine.
Yeah I gotta get more rounds down the pipe for sure
Did you check tork on the action screws. Savage is notorious for needing to tork everything, especially the action screws.
Great Video. I like that your sporting the Regulators Rimfire T-shirt.
Thanks for watching! I had a great time in Kentucky shooting the regulators Rimfire group!

Love budget builds thanks
I have a FVSR and it HATES Norma and RWS! loves most eley an sk. glad to see a budget build video, cheers.
Thanks, planning to try some different ammo soon
Great video again. I have a savage Mk 2 FV sr and have had major problems with it not extracting and ejecting.

MDT, for a precision chassis.
I had the same issues with my mk2 and the biggest reason I upgraded to the cz457
I have of the older pinned barreled critters. I don't like the barrel from the factory. I need a high quality Shilen barrel. Are they available
I know you said you wanted to keep the original barrel, but I would love to see a rebarrel. I’ve yet too see a custom barrel mk2, no one gives them any love.
these newer mark ii's i'm not sure you can get the barrel off with out destroying the action.
May I ask what part of missouri you reside in
Springfield area
What's wrong with the Pro Varmint stock..asking for educational purposes. I'd really like to build a Savage Mark 2 for target shooting.

All the matches I shoot are on 12 power, and that is out to 300 meters. I'm looking forward to how she shoots when she's finished.
Have the Savage mags that come with this model, gotten any better?
Does that barrel have a suppressor? Why is that gun so quiet?
If that stock fits the FV-SR I would love to own it. The FV-SR stock is way to small overall.
Norma Tac22 is the issue on this test. It's really hit or miss for me. I like that rifle quite a lot!
Only budget is this video. Watching somebody's face as they shoot. How did you ever come up with such a genius idea.
What scope rings was on this rifle?
might have missed it, but how far away were the shots?
52 yards
