Great test of a budget rimfire and I'm very much looking forward to what you can do with the combo as planed. 22's have always been the best bang for the buck and are intrinsic to keeping the shooting skills sharp. Absolutely love what you do on this channel. Keep up the great work!!! Oh, and great shooting!

Big thumbs-up , "yes"....do stuff like this. Always wanted the better, wooden, stocks but ALL suffer the same front-mounting hole problem where too much wood is missing ( you can even see this in the vid, front hole is not "complete" all around, freeze-frame at timeline 10:33)...and it makes it hard to pillar bed ( like I did for the plastic-stocked MKII FV bull barrel gun I have)...using lamp-rod pillars and a home-made cheek riser. I'm getting about 1/2" groups using pre-2017 Wolf Match Target and CCI standard velocity....I may not be able to do better.

Thanks for this test! I've been wondering about this Savage, and couldn't find much real accuracy videos on it.

Great rifle! I added an extended magazine release available on eBay that makes mag changes easier. It’s a small aluminum part that attaches with a set screw.

    I have the MKll FV-SR Bronze finish 16" threaded fluted heavy barrel 3/4" and I put a Nightforce NXS 5.5 to 22 X 50 .
At 50 yds I'm getting my best groups with CCI Standard Velocity about .350 with an occasional flyer still under 1"
I have not shot any match ammo yet . My worst group was also with the bulk Federal same as in the video . I have
only had the rifle 2 weeks . So far I think my 10/22 T,SS and my Dan Wesson Coyote EXP. Target shoot a little tighter
But maybe I haven't found the sweet ammo yet looking to trying many more brands and velocities . Have a blessed
    one everyone .

Just a thought but it might be interesting to see what a low cost barrel tuning aid would add to the mix. Often something as simple as a large O-ring will do wonders. Definitely would be in keeping to a budget friendly theme.

Seen a YT'er use a shaft collar. Titled $2 tuner. Does a year later follow-up on it.
I put one on a bull bbl 22WMR to test for myself. Sweet spot not as quickly found (use of micrometer recommended) as commercial tuner but I didn't have to thread barrel and $2 was just as effective as $150+.
Use nylon tipped set screw or a few pellets of #7-8 shot beneath set screw to protect barrel finish.

This is awesome. Im currently doing some upgrades on a plastic stock savage b mag. 1st tried freefloating and it dropped the group size about 1/8 moa now ive stiffened the stock with epoxy resin and will be bedding it before the next test groups.

With Savage, FV stands for F-synth stock, V-varmint (heavy) barrel. Very good rifle for the money, I got one new less than a month ago, put Vortex 5-25x56 Strike Eagle on it. It sure likes SK Standard Plus ammo at under 100m distances, CCI Standard Velocity works well too. Mind you, SK Standard Plus is same ammo as Rifle Match and Magazine, RM is ammo passing all QC, SP is sort of seconds and Magazine is thirds in QC testing; my guess is they go by weight, will have to test that theory thou. Rifle actually shot Win Dynapoints very well, that ammo was about 15 years old. I'm gonna put 40MOA Picatinny rail on it and drop it into MDT Oryx.

It will be interesting to see if it does shoot any better ... I wouldn't be disappointed if it didn't because it's shooting really well now !!! You can't go wrong with the good old CCI'S , great rounds in most rimfire's ....

    • @TheHide
      @TheHide  3 года назад +1

I agree, I think this project is more for my own curiosity lol. The CCI standard is tough to beat. Even right now with the price per round for how well it shoots. You have to spend a LOT more to have a better shooting ammo IMO. Thanks for watching buddy.

I have found with my MK II FV that among match grade ammo's brand doesn't matter as much as lot#. It won't shoot bulk at all. Nor will it shoot high velocity ammo.

    • @lmbear

I'd get rid of that rifle. Both my MK1 and MKII's shoot cheap stuff real well. Federal automatch and CCI std. velocity target is some of their favorite "cheap" ammo. Match grade ammo, and it puts them into ragged holes. I'm talking 10 shot groups too, not 5. Federal automatch usually goes into .6". Life is too short to deal with a finicky rifle.

Currently I have just a set of "low" height Leupold rifleman rings. Ill be using that same ring for the new scope also. Thanks for watching!

I just picked one up from Dunhams online firearm warehouse for $219. They come with a pair of Weaver mounts already installed. I mounted a 6-24X50 craptastic CVLIFE scope on it using a pair of cheap Amazon high mount rings. Maybe I could have used medium. The scope came with very tall see through rings that were way too tall. I guess mine is VERY budget class. I have a CVLIFE bipod coming for it. I haven't set the torque on the action mounting screws yet.
