I love this scene because Hellboy does the one thing that they never do in any movie: when entering a room, he looks around and then looks up

To be fair, most of the time in movies when the threat is above and they fail to look up, it's because the people entering the room are used to normal threats, IE checking corners for bad guys with guns and not crazy paranormal ceiling-hiding baddies. By contrast Hellboy is used to the weird shit.

This is such a great interaction between the two characters, Hellboy and Manning; they've been antagonistic the entire movie and then at the end of this mutual fight Manning offers sincere advice instead of being a shit.
Yeah. It's a shame that in sequel their relationship looks like this scene (even first movie) never happened.

It's also a great moment because Hellboy always hid his smoking from his father, in Hellboy 1 he was kind of a child in terms of his personality, hiding his smoking like a delinquent teen. Now, in this moment, he gets to meet with a sort of 'father figure' (even an authoritative one) as an equal, and receive advice about something he enjoys. It's a nice bit of closure to their interaction with each other. They respect and understand one another now

- Manning actually give us the world greatest advice on how to smoke a cigar
- The bond between Manning and Hellboy is not just boss and employee
this is why i love del Toro Hellboy, he approach it like an actually comic adaptation ( cheesy line, character act like they are in another episode of the show ) rather than go full on superhero movie

especially when you look at the second movie and notice that Hellboy is using wooden matches for his cigars still.
Maning being forced into the field gave him actual appreciation of what Hellboy did and an understanding that doing it clean and by the book, especially fighting these supernatural things, is a detriment to doing the job.
He becomes more of a humanizing factor for Hellboy and Hellboy gives him perspective on with the things out there, things like him are necessary.
"My name is Hell boy, you killed my father, prepare to die".

Okay, but you do have to admit that this is the moment when Manning showed us that he actually does deserve his position.
A psychotic zombie Nazi with dust for blood who looks like a store mannequin from Hell swings a sword at him, and Manning acts like he just cut in line at the bank.
That's why I was so pissed about how the made him in the second one. They took this guy and turned him into a groveling sycophant.

I felt the main problem with the reboot was that they got an actor in a role that called for them to shine through the make up but due to his lack of skill he was lost in it all

I feel like the ending victory cigar isn't given enough love. It's so simple, but it's a great man-to-man forgiveness scene. Love it.
When Manning gets a fucking blade swung at him, I love his reaction to being more pissed than terrified.
I'll say this, Kroenen's SS armor at the beginning of the movie was awesome looking. Character himself, as a person, is a real POS, but he gets points for cool armor (his armor in this fight sucked though).

Somebody falling onto to Spikes is a Cliche; BUT somebody throwing something heavy on top of somebody who has fallen on Spikes is genius.
Makes sense, Hellboy's fought a lot of things that can come back from getting impaled or killed- so he made sure he *stayed* down there. A proper professional in the field as usual.
God the match and the cigar scene. Even though they hated eachother he still taught HellBoy something new
I kinda wish Kroenen was a boss in Wolfenstein or Wolfenstein 2, he would have made the game interesting.
Thing is tho I don't think it would have worked story wise if I remember and please correct me if I am wrong I don't think there was much stuff to do about the Occult and the supernatural it was more mechanized than spiritual I think it would break that story if they didn't have supernatural and demonology stuff in the beginning of Wolfenstein 1 and then you try to bring it into Wolfenstein 2 it would be confusing the only one I remember that had supernatural things was Wolfenstein the Old Blood with the zombies if they continued that in 1 and 2 it would have made sense and been awesome to see

Ron Perlman owned this character man. The detail on the first 2 hellboys were masterful. And, can we say the makeup on hellboy is awesome. Still holds up today.
Such great movies - Pearlman is just the mutts nuts. Second movie obviously had a bigger budget than first but was not necessarily better.
