This is the embodiment of "Show, Don't Tell". Instead of talking about what happened, or blatantly cutting into the flashback, they show us as it is happening right in front of their/our eyes. Del Toro is a genius

@@aldy1837 You're a bit backwards there. Thomas and Guy's helmets were being worked on and produced 5-ish years before this movie was in the works. Besides, their design is based on classic sci-fi. Kroenen has his own thing going on and has to wear the gas mask because he needs to. DP wears theirs for artistic reasons.

Abe personality in the first movie really stiff almost feel like a robot, but in the sequel he start getting feel more like a human, mainly because he had crush on Princess Nuala. The power of love is strong right there
He's very different from his OG comic counterpart. They combined elements of Johann Kraus into this version, including the ability to "see what has transpired".
Makes me wish they actually completed the Guillermo trilogy. 😑. Still holds up very well today.

Im pretty sure Nuada would've killed Hellboy if his sister wasn't in the equation.
But idk, Kroenen death seems pretty rushed and out of nowhere to be honest.
At least visually, they both look just as skillful and dangerous as each other, but for the sake of feats i give this one to Nuada.

If I were one of the guards and I saw him ricochet bullets off blades like that and still standing after being shot multiple times id probably “second thought it’s ok help yourself.” Then run like hell saying “screw this”

Kroenen is more machine than man by this point. His flesh has aged and decayed so much his blood has turnes to dust. He has no eyelids nor lips. Hes all dried and wrinkled. And as you can see, his hearr is there anymore. He can boost his body by tuning up his gears.
He surgically removed his eyelids, upper and lower mouth and the condition was known as Surgical addiction (it had another name but I've forgotten it). His hand got blown off and his spine was severed when he got impaled by that metal rod. I imagine the clockwork heart probably had something to do with his blood drying up.

Later in the film Rasputin outright says that he deliberately left a trail of clues for Hellboy to follow. All part of his plan.

That must be some device that works like an artificial heart, connected to several other mechanisms (basically Kroenem's body works like a clock).
In this case, he is giving his reflexes a boost in order to cut the statue in half.
If you watched something like akame ga kill it’s like his trump card or if you’ve seen he man it’s his power sword for more power and better reflexes

Long story short:
Kroenen has always been a schizophrenic surgeon and liked to modify himself in search of perfection. After his "death" in 1944, he came back to life thanks to black magic and he replaced parts of his body with mechanical ones to keep living and serving rasputin. In particular, he replaced his broken spine with metal, his lost hand with a mechanical one and his heart with a clockwork of his own design (have to assume that some of his organs have to be mechanical as well. When he turns the wheel, he becomes faster and with better reflexes. He can also turn it backwards to simulate his death.
It makes his mechanical heart change different modes:normal,power off and combat mode

Funny story; The leather and spikes that became all the rage with 80's metalheads was based, unknowingly from the fact that Halford was gay and dressed with that look already. Unknowing metalheads picked it up and it became all the rage. I'll bet that they felt silly when they found out. No one knew that he was gay until the 90's.

I wish I had his combative capabilities, although he is hideous behind the mask he is a true professional security guard. He managed to extend his life span and as a intelligent individual he realized how to make better use of himself and protected it, gotta give my man's credit for that although Hellboy kicked'em to the curve* 🙈

Basically it was infiltration mission gone wrong. Kroenen was supposed to enter disable the alarms and cameras. Then Disable the alarms ,cut the statue, pick the jar, get it out . The woman gives the JAR to Rasputin in a secret location. Rasputin ressurects that thing......... But the woman went frik that . And went hammer time. Adn Rasputin was forced to appear
