Despite seeing a possible apocalyptic future caused by Hellboy, Broom still believed his son would not walk this path and be mankind's savior instead. Unconditional love and faith from father to son.
I love hellboys charm and perseverance to fight the good fight even after feeling TORN by his father's death
Portals are free ports to Freeport Lawngisles on manicured lawns of frivolity
because Broom is the best dad in comics

well, unfortunately, its inevitable, it happens it the comics almost exactly as everyone foretells, however the context is different, the Ogdru Jahad do indeed destroy the earth, and Hellboy is present, Liv finishes it off with fire, and Hellboy and Hecate together birth a new world.
1:53 "I call him son"
I love this scene it just shows how brave Broom really is by standing up to Rasputin and giving his life for his son. Now that's a true hero and father.
RIP John Hurt
Beautifully said!
What that bald guy is rasputin
But wasn't rasputin killed way before ww2
Idk much about hellboy lore in general

really loves this scene,...shows how much Broom is respected even by his adversaries.
He was actually doing him a favor by killing him early and quick. He was going to die eventually from the disease and it would have been torturous and eventual death.
Mostly because he raise his monster well.

The fact he gives him a quick and painless death shows how much respect he has for him.
Professionals have standard.
Even the sacrifice guy portal got killed quite quickly without much fanfare.
I wouldn't say it was painless tbh..
agree'd.....though that looked like it went straight through the neck from the back to the front, I'm not convinced that's a painless instant death

The way it was positioned, it severed his spinal column. He basically collapsed like a puppet with its strings cut and died feeling nothing past the initial shock.
@@SifGreyfang It was painless. Severing the spinal cord would dull any pain and his jugular was cut. He would be dead in seconds only having a very small amount of brain activity.
He dies listening to Dame Vera Lynn's most famous song, the song that kept so many strong in the darkest days of the war. Someday we will all indeed meet again, in what lies beyond the grave.

Professor Brooms lines have an awesome mix of intelligence and sarcasm
Because he's a Professor.
Dumbass 😂
At least Broom got a more dignified death here than in the comics where he got killed off by a frog monster...in the very first issue of Hellboy!
Much much more dignified.
Or in the reboot where nimue slit his throat.
Meaning, good story writing.
Wait, that was the FIRST issue?
Did he even die though? He got pierced by the spikes and couldn't get out but I doubt he truly died. Remember when bullets basically did nothing to him other than poke a few holes into his body
I got to meet John Hurt briefly some years ago when he stayed at the hotel i work at. Absolutely phenomenal man who loved his craft.
I don't give a damn about the cult of celebrity but the day I found out John Hurt died I was quite torn up about it. A unique talent gone from the world.
Stephen what hotel did you work and was it during the filming if hellboy and did you ever meet Selma Blair and ron perlman ever and she was the hotel located in is it still around
@Zachary Jochumsen The Hard Days Night in Liverpool. And it was about 2015. He mentioned that he was going to see a performance at The Everyman theatre because he had a passion for seeing fellow actors and how they brought their own nuance to a role
What an incredible experience. I envy you for being able to meet such a great man. But I’m also glad you got to see him before he died
Hes not afraid as he understands his son whereas his enemy understands only evil.
This is really badass tbh lol
he understands nothing, Rasputin is completely correct, all the fortelled fate comes to pass.
@@keithfilibeck2390true but the villains only tell a half truth of the future. The world ends yes; but a new world begins, at least that’s what happens in the comics.
He touches Broom's hand as he assures him that it will be quick. That is a pretty profound gesture from one such as Grigori Rasputin.
Broom is so respected that even his enemies treat him with dignity and respect, even with death so close
Doctor circus maybe he didid not fear Rasputin as much as as sveyone else he lrates raspurin lile an old friend
Doctlr circus well brittwnholm was dying of cancer alredy so krpneab party much put hib out his misery
Quite possibly one of the most painless deaths in cinema. Quick, clean, and efficient with no wasted movement or excess brutality. A proper death by a proper assassin even if they are undead.
Robin being ran through by A-Train though.
I like that Rasputin carried himself with more class than a moustache twirling villain; giving Broom a quick and dignified death rather than gloating and drawing it out.
This version of Broom is far superior to the one we got in the 2019 film. He genuinely loves and cares about Hellboy like an actual son and tried to protect him to the end.
Honestly, what the hell did they do to him in that movie. He was such a dick to Red in that one
@@aaronkenyon7112that whole movie was a dumpster fire

Your damn right
massively underrated. this and the sequel. cast, acting, script, effects, and cinematography are all of superior quality to even what disney has been making for the past decade. that says a whole lot. rest in peace John Hurt
This is one of the most moving scenes, no blood, no gore & great dialogue between two major players 👍
Okay I know that Kroenen originally was never an assassin in Hellboy, but the fact that he was in this film makes his character a lot more badass! If only the reboot continued that.... honesty I kinda want to just see a Kroenen movie
Ehh.. would be hard to focus a movie on a amoral undead SS officer lol
I think it would be weird to have people from the main villains group without having the main villains show up. I’m guessing the Ogadru(?) were set aside for a possible sequel.
It was cool how they brought him back in the new movie with the flashback
Deadpool fulfills Kroenen’s role making a movie just about him is difficult to make.
not really, maybe for hollywood@@The-Deadite
This part was always always always sad to me. What makes it even more sad during the Funeral transport, being drenched in rain mixed with your own tears while see your love died and being buried.
While hearing We'll Meet Again in the score.
Exactly like Shepherd Book once said: " There is a special leνel of Hell, a leνel they reserνe..'' for people who harm John Hurt. And for child molesters and for people who talk at the theater.
That sounds "special"
Don't forget people who talk on their phones in public on speaker.
Don't forget those who demand to "see the manager" when they don't get their way.
I'd add in the people who change lanes without signalling, but... I get the feeling hell would fill up quick at that point.
And I'm the warden of this special hell.
I can't wait to hear the screaming.
Don't care what people say about this movie but this was a masterpiece
2:21 Has anyone noticed when that part of the song plays, it almost sounds like a wail for Broom? My God, I always tear up at that part....
Why did they have to kill him tho?
@@dareonallen9574Broom was already dying of cancer. So Kronen gave him a quick death by his blade.
To quote another del Toro villain; "Be proud of your enemy, and enjoy his success." Professor Brume is an enemy anyone could be proud of.
And of course, same actor is in both films.
I always liked that the villain never shows a single ouch of malice or hatred, only a nod of respect to a worthy adversary.
He was going to die from illness so atleast he didn’t suffer
2:18 This made me realize those blades are just heavily modified SS daggers.
Man that place isn’t the most secured and safest place
Jose Gloria you can have all the cameras and personal you want, but if the villain uses dark magic there’s nothing to do
Uncle Duck for real unless you find a way to use dark magic and use to make that place more hidden I guess and hard to get in
Jose Gloria
You recall that they literally brought Kroenen into the facility themselves.
Rasputin has already been resurrected; I’m 100% certain that he’s linked to Kroenen at all times; hence knowing exactly where he was
Also, Broom was kinda reckless in presuming that an adversary like Kroenen, who he’d seen first hand survive impalement (or at least get away after) during WWII... who he’d discovered was a clockwork being, would have actually died from bullet wounds.
If he’d performed the autopsy elsewhere, or encased the body in a massive block of cement (also elsewhere) then perhaps Rasputin wouldn’t have been able to find Brooms whereabouts...
Either way Broom was dying/suffering from cancer; this was probably the best death he could have hoped for. Showing no fear in front of your lifelong adversary ~AND~ no longer suffering the dragged out effects of cancer?
That’s a mic-drop death if I ever saw one...well, a broom-drop death anyway...
It’s not like regular security guards could do anything about it lol. Kroenen would simply slaughter them and Rasputin uses dark magic on top of that
Rasputin got in with Magic, Kronen, on the other hand, simply appeared dead and they were trying to figure out how he worked. What they found out the hard way was life and death didn’t mean much to him at that point.
The look on Rasputin's face when Broom says "I know what to call him, I call him son" shows that he is clearly moved.
No doubt he views Broom as his main enemy, and a worthy one at that, but he also respects that he loved Hellboy.
When Rasputin shows himself to Hellboy earlier in the film he says that he brought him into the world, so both he and Broom see themselves as Hellboy's father and both have a vision about what he will become, just very different visions.
Basically, they have the worst co-dad relationship ever lol
I just mentioned this scene to my mom last night on the phone and here it is on my recommendations. Nope not listening to my calls at all.
It wasn't long ago that believing in that made you a conspiracy theorist. Now, we basically accept it as normal.
Thats interesting, wonder how this particular scene was even brought up.
Even after he saw a possible future of Hellboy (Anun Urama) bringing about the end of the world and opening a portal of Eldritch monsters, he still believed there's good in him, and even still called him his son. And you see Hellboy change his fate and destiny towards the end of the film. That is a damn good father right there.
Now there’s a man who, through confirmation of Hell existing through the boy he raised, knew that he was going to something better, and wasn’t scared of dying.
He put down his rosary for the first time in the movie because he knew he didn’t need it anymore.
This scene kinda hurt much deeper than others since the prof looks like an old uncle of mine that is no longer in this world
Sorry to hear that, may he rest in peace.

@@matrixman117edits7 Many thanks.
You can actually see anger in Rasputins eyes when he says "son". Like Rasputin was trying so hard to one up him but he still couldnt
If I see that correctly, he is perfoming a kind of a "Shot" in the neck. Wich is indeed highly efficient to kill somebody. It's the same reason, why putting a gun in your mouth works so well. Under the lower back side of your skull is the nervous system that controls you breathing and heartbeating. If you stab or shot through it, you will have an instant stop of heartbeating and bleeding to death at the same time. So yeah... pretty much the quickest death possible with just one bullet.
Until his dying breath he thought of Hellboy as his son.

I loved this movie. The atmosphere and artwork, just fantastic
I like how even though he knows he is doomed to die and given a premonition of destruction caused by the one he cared for his entire life, he still gives a great act of defiance towards the prophecy by calling Hellboy “son”.
He truly believed he did the right thing when he spared his life
Even as monsters they respected Professor Broom.
Death should never be quick, it should be an opera
This time it went Quick
At least he gave him a quick death, soldier's death.
Death is a coda, Life is an opera. And energy, like love; Never Dies.
You’re missing the message of the actual character. As I know for true Christians like the Professor portrayed here. Death is for the body but life is eternal.
i do believe this Rasputin used old dark magic to save the tsar's son and keep him alive.
What a polite assassination.

2:11 wow i just noticed the greenscreen behind his goatee, blends in very nicely with the blue lol
Now unlike most villains who want their enemies to die slow Rasputin made broom's death quick and painless now that's honor and respect for your enemy

This is how I imagine the Talon from the Court Of Owls to operate. (The actual assassin)
I love it.
An Honorable Death, it's its own reward. RIP John Hurt
Superman? Man of steel reference
Gotta love how the world is ending but the newspaper is still in print, that's dedication
Love that song in the background
There will never be a better Broom.
RIP John Hurt!
The blade chooses the assassin, Mr Kroenen.
I love the pan over the newspaper saying ‘The Apocalypse’ - like both a meta object for the fans who still don’t get it; as well as a hilarious in-world circumstance where a newspaper thought to publish ‘The Apocalypse is happening’ as if someone somehow missed the message.
There's something intriguing about the almost tender way in which Rasputin interacts with Bruttenholm.
"i see the puppet. where is the puppeteer" 🥶
This is something I like that the comics didn't do given Bruttenholm's death in the first few pages: a face to face between the man who brought Hellboy into the world (claiming himself to be a metaphorical father) and the man who raised Hellboy as a true father.
Took me a long time to realize that's John Hurt. The first guy to get Chestbursted. A dragon. A Doctor. And more.
John Hurt never played a part that didn't end up brilliant 😊
Crazy the old man didn’t even flinch or run or scream just say do it
vera lynn playing in the background is haunting. 'vera, vera, what has become of you'
Damn, Rasputin's speech there is downright ASMR
I love this "Hellboy" and despise the new ones in a way that I can't even describe.
Back when comic book movies were only made because the people making them had real passion for the work, not because it was just popular to do so
The work that was put into these movie was magnifique
0:55 imagine if this is what we got from a 3rd del toro Hellboy film
Could you give me a link of this thunder sound at 1:03? It’s from jumanji.
The world was ending but the newspaper had enough time to release one last issue with "Apocalypse" headlines. Going to work during end of the world is quite a dedication
Rasputin promising Broom a quick death, and then following through, always stuck with me.
I love this scene so much. It is truly beautiful. You can see how much respect Rasputin has for Broom as it almost breaks his heart to kill the man after hearing his words. He made it quick out of respect
0:58 The most realistic part of this movie is that someone still clocked into work to write a newspaper about the Apocalypse.
I never noticed that there's a crown in the flames over Hellboy's head at 1:20. Nice little detail.
That visual is straight from the comics
John Hurt will forever be a legend
Rasputin thought Bruttenholm was a man trying to control a demon, but realized Bruttenholm really thought of Hellboy as his son. You can tell he was moved.
Respect is what I feel when I watch this scene.
Kroenen: I will kill anyone who tries to get revenge on me!
Never wait the death, never stay peacefully waiting the moment, that´s a war and you are a warrior, fight untill the moment comes, fight untill the night falls.
I love that they gave time in the film for you to grow attached to him and feel sadness when he's murderered. In the very first issue of the comics he's found dead and you don't know what time of man he was unless you read much further along and into the side material.
Don't worry, he'll regenerate. Fantastic!
(The ears could be a little less conspicuous, though.)
This is so sad 😢.

Dont worry he regenerates into Christopher Eccleston
