They used plenty of CGI, they just used it with some restraint. They did everything they could in camera with practical effects and covered the gaps with CGI. That is always how Del Toro has rolled.

I love how Hellboy reanimates a corpse, not to start an apocalypse or experiment on them, but to ask for directions thus making Ivan perhaps the grumpiest Zombie I've ever seen.
In Christianity Necromancy is prohibited. Nothing good can come out from a dead corpse, and no soul is going to return into a rot corpse !

Especially since, you know, they're in a Moscow graveyard, digging up a (previously) dead Russian man. Stands to reason he wouldn't speak a language that would not exist for a few centuries *after* he died and only existed in a place around 8,000km to the south-southwest.

Comic Hellboy isn't standoffish and snarky like this one. He's more like the big brother to the whole department. He'll laugh and joke with them, and if anything threatens them he'll shoot it in the goddamn face.

Why did they bother doing a remake of hellboy i will never understand. Both 1 and 2 were good movies and Ron Pearlman did an exelent job as hellboy. They should have done a hellboy 3 instead of that fiasco of 2019.

Something I like is that this is a loose reference to "The Chained Coffin", which features Hellboy in Ireland bringing a corpse to his final resting place in exchange for a stolen baby girl so he can return her to her mother.

If you would notice, there was a stone lid on the grave. No need to cover it up, because bodies freeze in Russia, not rot

They just screwed up with details.Also they showed catholic cementery - orthodox crosses looks different, and there is no such lamenting angels in old orthodox cementeries.Also Ivan having rope around his neck, because of this mark he should be buried outside without christian rites, in some distance from the fence of the graveyard.

What relation does this Ivan have supposedly with Rasputin. That is in real life assuming he was also a real person.
Maybe Ivan was asociated with Rasputín, and was killed because of that. If you are watching, Ivan has a noose around his neck, so, perhaps he was executed by the Romanovs or the bolcheviques.
