Holy shite, that sounds as good as the ridiculously priced $400 stack. I’ve got some junkers, but none are thin enough to taco… have to find some crap brass hats that come with a kids set or something. Thanks for the inspiration, sir!
@@DonalBowens Aha! I found a set of brass Tama hats I’d forgotten all about. If I can just trouble you for the rough outline - Did you put both hats together (as they’d be on a stand) and taco them? Or did you stack them and then taco them? Any work on the bells? Any hammering involved? I appreciate the tips! Thank you much.
@@DZNTZ I bent them randomly with the legs of my bed as I show in the video 🤣 then put the cymbals on top of one another bell on bell. Hope that helps! Cheers Dan
@@DonalBowens Got it. I’d usually just wing it, but your result is so spot-on I don’t want to deviate from the recipe! Very helpful, thanks for the quick reply.
Update: I tried this with some of my own old hi hats, and it actually came out sounding pretty good. I’m really happy with the results! Thanks again for the vid, really resourceful (now I don’t have to give $400 to Zildjian lol). 👊🏾
I had a similar thought with some old kids set ymbals I had of three different diameters. Also bent and beaten up with a ball-peen hammer to make me feel cool. Your's sound great!
I wanna make my own clap stack with old and cracked cymbals that I have, but I don’t know how to give them the correct shape without cracking all the cymbal, do you think a blacksmith could help me to give the shape of a clap stack?
Good question. These cymbals were really thin and made of pretty soft metal so it was easy. I’d imagine thicker harder cymbals would be hard to bend. Yeah definitely ask a blacksmith.
These are hi hats from a beginner DXP drum kit. You might find something similar on the used market if you look for starter drum kits. You know the ones that come with the cheap cymbals? But try anything, even broken cymbals. The crappier the better 😆
Thanks Bjorn, the cymbals were quite warped already as they are cheap DXP cymbals. I bent on two sides I believe but if your cymbals aren’t warped you might need to go a bit further. Bend and sound test as you go 😁
No, just like in the video I put them under my bed propped against a chair and amp. So just put them under something heavy and put something in front to keep them in place.
The clap stack sounds great... but the real star here is that snare tone... boom!
Really appreciate that 😁 Also been following your content for years man. Keep it up 👌
I think it sounds great
For real. Those clap stacks are a bit pricey don’t ya think?
It sounds perfect & feels the void for drummers that doesn't own a drum machine to get that digital clap sound
Actually sounds incredible.
This is So creative! I love it! I'm about to go check out some of the cymbals I've locked away haha
Glad you enjoyed bro. Best of luck with it man.
I do love experimenting with homemade stacks. This sounds incredible to me. And great playing too 🤘🙂
Always fun. I hit it once and was like I have to show people this haha. Thanks a mill Keith.
I think this stack sounds amazing!
Thanks, I'm really happy with it
That’s amazing mate, well done. Also, fab playing
These sound great!!

Cheers Dan, and great idea, kid set cymbals would be perfect 👌

Sounds really good! An alternative to those expensive clap stacks
Great video bro! I always see Chris Dave with the clap stack but it’s so expensive. I’ll have to try this when I get home from school

awesome!!
Nice work!
Thanks dude 😀

Very cool!
Hello did you keep the high hats in the normal high hat position or did you turn them around so the fit into each other?
I turned them over to fit on top of one another yeah 😁
I almost dont believe you that's so easy. I got the Paiste PSTX Daru Jones hats and they really chck like a clap
Im having the excact same feeling, and that brought me here
I'm gonna go do this right now
Where can i buy the cymbal to do this clap stsck?

Incredible ! Very well done 👍🏻 Did you bend cymbals one by one, or the two in same time ?... thanks 🤘🏻
Thank you :) I bent them on top of one another.
HOW!??! 😮
Amasing. Did you bend it all the way around or just in one place, like the photo?

Is that just two cymbals? Sounds great 👍
Yeah just DXP hi-hats, until I throw a splash underneath.
@@DonalBowens I have a suitable set of hats (from a Flats kit) for the job! Can't wait to hear them : D
Alan Donnelly Sweet, best of luck with it
How did you go about bending them?? Sounds fantastic!
Cheers. Like in the video. Just under the leg of my bed proped up against a chair and amp haha
Me again dude. Did you heat treat them to bend them?

@@DonalBowens so you did! Ok thanks again
