It's a well-known fact that we entertain the same class level customer as the prices we charge. My favorite response to my "Life Hacker" customers was, "Sorry, it's not free".... and I was not shy about saying it, even in front of 15 people standing behind them in line....Customers are, what you teach them to be.
The image processing on that microscope is so impressive, you can see how it's trying to stabilize the clarity of the finer contrast details, eg. markings on chips, while also enhancing the illusion of depth perception, awesome equipment.
As someone who did $20 quotes (20 years ago) I can confirm, it'll end your business. The worst one was getting a win (which means actually repairing it) then the customer knocking back a $120 repair and saying "I'll just buy a new TV". So we removed parts or undid the repair, charged them $20 and lost money time and time again. The new one they bought at the time was likely not as good as the one they had. When there was thunderstorms the front of my shop was full of televisions and other damaged items, I should have been raking it in with quote fees, but instead we were set back weeks with angry customers on the phone. You should have heard the insurance company complaining when I changed my quotes to $40! They were not happy! I do I.T. now, but would I run a repair shop again today with the knowledge I have now? NO WAY! I hate STUPID customers and prefer my sanity.
Well said: stupid customers. Stupid, thinking they know all and on top of everything demanding that they are entitled to everything. They are the worse. I show them the door and hope to not see them and their kind ever again. Unfortunately, there's so many of them. Fortunately, my door works both ways and they can go right through the door they were coming through. To see them go brings me so much peace LOL
Real estate is like this all over the US. It's even like this on the east coast. I have been looking for a house since around COVID as well. Houses are going for way more than they're worth and people are still over bidding.
It's a joy for me to see that someone can afford to buy a 2M house. As big boss says bismillah before trying to turn on the device i say inshallah you will buy it.
That repair was caused by the ground screw next to it was loose and arcing , and made high resistance to ground at that cap and high heat causing failure, I find a lot of arcing on the ground screws like that on these boards. Keep up the good videos Thank you😁
there's a place in alaska where they post signs "don't throw food at the wolves", if a seller raises the price once i've accepted their price already twice, i'll go: my offer is now down to the original price, take it or leave it.
It's a very common practice for a seller to list a house well under it's retail value in order to gain multiple competing offers. I admire anyone willing to stick it out in the cesspool California has become.
Good luck with getting the house. Will cross my fingers that you get it. Bidding on houses are shown many times here in Sweden to be scams. Houses been on the market for some time, noone interested. As soon as you call and give them a bid, several others pop up from nowhere and start bidding. Now we have a new law forsing the agents to show the byer who was bidding and how much. Thank you for sharing your house and repair journey.
the ironic thing is that laptops can now be the price you charge for repairs.. just the way it is.. but i fell in that trap fixing computers a few times ... people taking advantage of my good nature .. but i soon learned to harden up... I had one customer say to another oh he does it for nothing..??? since when ... .. your my best mate type thing so .. i just stopped ... i learnt that one...
I hope you get the home, Alex! I am sure you and your family would love to close that chapter in your lives. Thank you for the update on the "hot tweezers" and take care!!
I agree with you about location. I’m a truck driver and have seen a lot of the country. I was born and raised in the central valley of California. California has it all. You live in an area that has everything in close proximity. 👍
i was born in california, lived there for awhile. i don't live there anymore and would never live there again but i agree with you it is an amazing state and i understand why you'd want to live there
It's the same with every industry, a final price always sounds expensive until you see what goes into it to generating that price. Customers never see the man hours, rent or insurances etc to run a business. They only ever compare your price to how much they earn & how much the item costs them to purchase.
I can say for sure, your prices are very reasonable. I was doing laptop repairs here in Las Vegas back in 2004 and we had about the same prices but we didn't even do SMD. Also, your parts and equipment prices are very competitive with Amazon and others.
We offered $250K over on a 1.3M house, all cash no contingencies. Winning bid was $350K over, also all cash, no contingencies. Meh, it is what it is. Also, you never lost it if you never had it.... I too am staying in CA, as I have year round mountain biking 5-10minutes away, with good double blacks.
Based on that conversation, it seems like you chose a really good real estate agent. They are confident without being rude and communicate everything to you very well.
Yup for sure. I spend most of my time on diagnostics. People don't realize what goes on behind scenes. Thanks for the cool video always learning from you, thank you so much!
"I'm gonna look at other houses .... ok we have short circuit...." lol classic NRFix. :D Looks like this channel is turning into another Louis Rossmann with board repairs and real estate. hehe
my friend went through a similar experience when trying to buy a home . patience won for my friend. he bought a house 10 doors down that was a better property and a lower price!
Land prices in California don't appear to be out of line with other states. Building materials are high right now, but even if you had to ship materials from out of state, why can't you just build a house instead of paying these elevated prices?
If $85 is not much in the US then it also should not be anywhere else in the world. Why is the value of the dollar still so high? Something does not add up.
In which year of your business establishment did you start applying this detection fee? I think this is not possible for start-up businesses, or do you think this should always be the case?
Interesting 😮, in EU we have the opposite: you start from the listed price and then negotiate down, never up. Of course prices can be crazy high depending on location, imagine a house in Rome or Milan.
It's honestly dependent one of the houses we looked as this madness started going down was actually at the point where they were asking 140 and the agent said they'll take 136 because the last few people backed out. Which was a shame its was a meh house, but would have been a pretty great office/workshop.
I wonder if that new Luxary tax is going to move to other areas, I heard of LA, and that its on homes more than 5 million, But i wonder if this tax will move to lower cost homes in the range your shopping. Just something that would worry me over time.
i have been retired for 7 years now, but during my whole business life, i never ever negotiated or allowed a customer to decide my labor cost! To those who had hard time accepting my price, i used to tell them other places that would do cheaper & that i would not mind if they went elsewhere..

If you would slowly but religiously write the experiences and new tricks that you learn from repairing just asus laptops alone, I feel like you could write a book about it. Something like "a technician's guide to repairing asus laptops". The sudden click you get when you first inspect the board and know 9/10 what the problem is is very interesting to see.
