  • The service/repair of a vintage Junghans J30BZ chronograph movement cockpit clock from a second world war Messerschmitt Me 109 fighter.
The watch came me to from a family member as a none runner, it looks like it not been serviced in some time.

    Just wonderful.
    Congratulations.
I appreciate your work very much. I have 2 of those. The first of it took a long time to be restored.( main spring and first wheel difficult to find )
Its the first time I see a video of it and I understand the work it is to fix it.
    Best regards

Thanks for this GREAT video! You are doing such a good job! I am a collector and have several variations of this clock, but I can`t do repairs or restauration, because I have two left hands with 5 thumbs on each hand, hhhahahahaha. Regarding your watch : - late war model. - the red color on the two stopp-hands was added after the chronograph left the Junghans factory: maybe during WWII service , but often post war modification. - bezzel is missing. -As the condition of the dial and the hands isn´t very good, I would just add color to the two hands ( hour and minute). this doesn´t reduce its collectors value at all and it looks much better. - the watch wasn´t used in special planes, but in MOST Wehrmacht Luftwaffe planes....... even in the Heinkel He111 for example.
Thanks again for showing, good luck and have fun with your nice watch , Fred from Germany.

Hi Fred, do you have any more information on different models of the Junghans chronographs. There seems to be many variations of these.
      Thanks, Mark.

@@holdensuckahahahaa Hello Mark, I have 8 of these Junghans J30 BZ in my collection. There are early models with some parts made of brass, while the later ones have cheaper metals and bakelite-comonents and so on. There is a "bible" for collectors of german miliatry wtaches and clocks - WWI until today. It is the book of the author Konrad Knirim " Militäruhren - Military timepieces. German language, but the photos are decribed in german and english language. This is the book of all books about watches. It shows all variation of this cockpit watch and all other Wehrmacht Luftwaffe watches , army watches, Kriegsmarine watches and so on. This book is a must have.

@@alfredkonig4639 Wow eight, that's impressive. Have you considered making a video? I would love to see them, I'm guessing you have all the different variants, I have what I think is a 5th version (same one as this video). Do you have any resources for replacement parts for the 30bz movement?

@@holdensuckahahahaa Hello, thanks. Good idea regarding a video :-) in the moment I have bad access to my collection, which is stored at different places in the moment, as our broken house enlargement was torn down and has to be build up again. I got replacement parts in former times by buying a broken watch. Ocassionally spares are offered by Ebay. Hope you`ll find what you are seraching for :-) Good luck!

Thanks, if it was mine I’d be tempted to do some minor restoration but I was asked to leave it as is.

Quite surprised to learn a WW2 fighter actually carried a Chronograph on it's instrument panel. The Swiss Lever movement was something special too as accuracy wasn't sought after, only reliability.
Having Rubies on a movement which calculated running time was in the best case measured in few weeks would have been too much even for the Germans! 😁

Achtung ⚠️ Die Farbe der Uhr ist sehr stark Strahlend ☢️. Bei einem Abstand von Ca. 50 cm jedoch nicht schädlich.
