Flying The World’s Oldest B777 - United B777 A Model

  • I was flying Chicago to Denver on a United B777. Before my flight, I met up with my United friend Mike Hanna, who heads up United’s Chicago hub operations. He gave me a tour and showed me around the new measures being taken to make travel cleaner and safer, such as social distancing at the terminal and lounge, temperature checks for all employees, installing of glass shields at check in and the electrostatic spray cleaning of the terminal and inside the plane. He also showed me a HEPA filter and explained how the air filtration system works inside the plane.
    Then I flew on the World’s oldest active B777, N774UA, an original Boeing 777-200 A model from Chicago to Denver. The plane was 26.0 years old, line number 002 from Boeing. During my flight I met up with fellow passengers, pilots and cabin crew to see what’s changed in air travel. I documented the new boarding procedures, the change in food and beverages being served onboard and everything else. I talked to several passengers about how they feel about flying during this pandemic.

    It is hard to say whether air travel is safe during pandemic as the virus is invisible. Just about any activity has risk. This video is about to document what airlines has been doing on regular basis and what my flight is like in the current climate. It is not endorsing or recommend flying is safe. United currently do not have social distancing onboard their planes but said they will alert passengers if the flight is more than 70% for options.

      It's not free. How would you feel about paying an extra $8 every time you walk into an airport? I'll bet I'm not far off the mark.
      They were already cleaning *plenty.* Every time I've ever gone to an airport (except late hours) I have always constantly seen cleaning people working. The difference is that they're taking it to a greater level now, and it's bound to be painfully expensive.

      Smartass. You know G.D. well that the costs will be tremendous, regardless of how the payment is made. You know that prices will rise everywhere. Not just air tickets. Concessions, amenities, parking, EVERYTHING.
      I bet everytime you pay $10 per day for airport parking "911 fee" or $10 per day "911 fee" on your rental car that you say "$10? Pooey. They're keeping me safe."

      In the US they have some 5 million covid cases, 162k deaths. All they are refusing to wear masks. They have no plan and now they are behind. The netherlands have 57k cases, 6k deaths. They are wearing masks. They have a plan and they are ahead. Germany has 200k cases, some 9k deaths, they are wearing masks and have a plan, they are ahead.
      Masks offer some protection enough to keep asymptomatic carriers of this virus to spread it further. Pointless? Then fine. Go out without protection and get infected. Is this your plan?

      @@Canleaf08 Actually the Dutch are not. The Dutch government has officially advised people that masks are not required as the scientific evidence DOES NOT support their use. The Dutch are not the only ones showing some sanity, Denmark, Finland and Iceland also do not recommend masks.
      My wife is United 1K and we both fly regularly. We WILL NOT fly by choice until this unscientific, dangerous mask wearing madness is revoked. Next week we drive from Texas to Virginia to visit friends. Previously we would have flow United first, paid for from our own pockets, so United have lost at least $1.3k in revenue from us this month.

      @@nycflyertravel yes, in your original comment you were talking about the seating arrangements in the 777 so I supposed your were comparing directly to inter European flights.
      While I have never been in the US, I do agree seeing pictures that the inter European buiseness class looks pretty shit in comparison (well, they look non existent), but the economy looks pretty much the same in Europe and in the US.
      Though I don't think buiseness looks as if it matters that much in Europe, most flights are very short haul routes that are 1h-2h.
      But yeah, I don't think I recall ever seeing a special buiseness class layout in any (European) flight I've took.

    Sam, I absolutely love all your content, but I was a bit disturbed when you (chatting with the man you were sat next to explaining about his pilot dad)with your masks down (which I know is allowed for eating)you got right in his personal soace turning your head. You might have passed a temp check, but please bear in mind younger people like us don't necessarily get ill. Love you Sam :)

    I am wondering how much this crisis is going to make our tickets more expensive.

    • @SamChui
      @SamChui  3 года назад +10

      The ticket price are driven by supply and demand. Right now international travel are quite restricted which had a skew in pricing. In longer term if we all back to travel airline may not have enough supply so there is a change of price hike.

    • @OrSNCucumber
      @OrSNCucumber 3 года назад +1

      @@SamChui True. With being said, eventually people will return flying. During this season airports should be packed, but they aren't so airlines would have to cover their loss once traffic returns to normal. That is regardless of the supply they can generate.

      @@zupa5637 That's not bad. But again, we're still on the crisis. I am wondering what is going to happen once we quit the situation, or at least the normal traffic returns to the airport. Then the real test would come.

    • @Bill_Woo
      @Bill_Woo 3 года назад +3

      Airlines can't survive if 50% of their most vital revenue is nullified by government forbidding them to fill up planes. Those full planes pay all the bills, and make everything else possible with an airline. But unless they are nationalized (the most devastating outcome, but very possible, and the government subsidizes them like a Communist country), the prices are going to have to soar.
      Yes, that's supply and demand. When the supply is forced downward by 50%, prices soar. Unless the government [further] interferes.

      Seeing passengers talking with their mask down, taking time enjoying their food and drink, is not reassuring that people are serious in minimizing risk of infection. Also taken aback to see crews using their hand to grap the front of the mask on their face. More training and safeguard are needed to convince people to fly.
