That machine is a reproduction that was made in Carpentersville IL in the ‘80s and ‘90s. The person that made them is now deceased, but he owned many of the factory dies when he reproduced them. He did not use case-hardened steel on some of the parts like Mills did in the ‘40s and his machine’s didn’t quite hold up as well as the original ones did.
@@mark2474 Interesting - did not know that. I personally have a "Mills Black Beauty" myself (yes - I know it's a common unit). It takes dimes and it seems to be a good unit. Got mine for $900 many years ago (about 26 years ago I think ). It's not restored but it looks good.
No way that guy thinks a 90 year old slot machine comes with a lifetime warranty from a pawn shop. He 100% took advantage of a business that needs to keep everyone happy.
Agree he just played around with it too much and it broke, thats the issue these guys too often get away with this behavior. So I told the customers the purchase was a “final sale” and they’d be like “ok”. Then I’d say “so that means if you take it home, plug it in and it doesn’t work, it’s still yours”. People were like “oh 😮”. So funny.
easy fix probably a jammed spring catching on the spinning wheels might even just need oiled, modern quarters cld be the issue they didnt even exist when this was made, could be not level on his table and thats it
No it definitely the lever with the spring not moving to lock position fast enough. Likely lubrication that turn sticky over time. You can see it when he has the back open and works the mechanism.
Yeah. He opened it up for sure, broke it, then called around for cost to fix it. Then had the idea to haggle the antique shop to pay half of the cost. Well his idea worked !!! It is unreasonable to demand a refund after an item advertised as working turns out to not, causing 8 extra hours of driving? You must waste a lot of money on broken items

You handled this well. The internal mechanisms are well built, but at age 90, it really shouldn't be a Man Cave toy for friends and family to pull the handle like it was built yesterday. He should take care of the museum piece he bought. Pull the handle once in a while. It's harder and harder to find folks that can fix them.
They aren't hard to fix for someone with a little logic, they have very straight forward easy to work out mechanisms. They were designed to go in corner stores and had to be easy repairable for the store owner.
@UltraMAGA420 used, antique, from a pawn shop. Its 100% as is. You never hand over that much cash without making sure it works first. Which he did. Its on camera working, it goes out of the store with this guy and all of a sudden is not working anymore.... sounds like someone was going to hard with his new toy.
you do make a very valid statement. It's old as all can be, who knows how it was secured and transported on the 2 hour trip, and who knows how it was used.

I can totally see him and his drinking buddies hitting the machine after it didn't give them $2 million 7 in quarters after the first arm pull. Typical trash.
I used to have a tenant from Hell who would abuse the window air conditioners, stove, etc. while drunk and high. She would always claim "it just all of a sudden broke". After a while I witnessed her crazy behaviour in person. . She abused appliances ! I've never seen someone be that rough on things. This was only a small part of her saga as my renter. I'm so glad she moved. The house was in such disrepair when she left.
I am going to assume your receipts say as is. The guy is a blow hard trying to intimidate you, he won't even let you finish a sentence. Too bad he didn't bring the base back cause now you can't even refund him and send him on his way. He doesn't feel "taken" or he would have brought everything back.
Im not so sure, If you're asking $2200 for an item, you're saying/inferring its in good working order. $2200 is the price of a perfectly working machine. The customer has a right to expect it to work properly. It is possible that the customer caused a problem by transporting it on its side or something, but unless you can prove that, I think Peter has a responsibility to fix it, or sell it for a cheaper price.
@@tubester4567 Everybody in the video agreed that the machine was working properly when the customer put down his money and walked out the door with it. If the customer just wanted his money back, then he should have returned the entire thing, but he left the base at home. Wouldn't it have been fair for Peter to offer him a full refund when he brought back all of the parts?
@ 12:55 - I am a slot technician but only on current technology. With those older mechanical machines there could very easily be one specific reel position that when it lands on it, some mechanism is not engaging or releasing properly, there's a lot of different possibilities for an intermittent problem like this that may not show up until the game is played for quite a while. Nice looking machine the very clean on the outside. Dying to see what the inside looks like LOL. And then I keep watching and bingo, problem discovered. The minute I watched I could see that spring has been stretched out too much and probably didn't have the correct tension, and a drop or two of very light oil would probably help also. Looks pretty clean inside there! Hadn't seen your channel active for a long time, nice to be back here!
Dude you're just so fun to watch! You're so wholesome, fair, kind but also realistic. You happily help people, but you don't let people walk over your generosity. Truly a rolemodel!
From my 20 years of sales and services in computer repairs, not to put that guy in a category, but he reminds of the type of people that would buy a computer completely repaired (and I know the computer is 100% good to go because I take pride of my work) and come back a couple days later saying its broken. I would point out to them this wouldnt happen unless it was dropped or knocked over. Then trying not to admit it, they would try to go half on the cost to fix it again or pay for the part needing replaced. Something tells me they were rough with it or something got loose in transit since it is an old machine. What I would have done is ask this guy if he wants to return the slot machine and get a partial refund or keep it because it's an antique and sold as is. Especially if he was told that during the transaction. Customer isnt always right.
I'd be so lucky to have the situation happen to me. Great businessmen have happy customers. I'm impressed at your willingness to work with him. Good businessman.
Lol I'd never blame the seller, especially if it worked at the time of purchase! It sucks that it stopped working but as you mentioned the thing is old. Any number of things could've went wrong with it. To sue you? That's absurd. Ruby had the end had me cracking up though 😂
I will never shop there knowing how seller talks about customers behind their backs (tried to blame him for transport damage evven after admitting old age is the likely cause, and his lackey even ridiculed him by calling it "cursed" until the fault finally surfaced and shut him up)
I'm glad you were able to figure out what was wrong with it -- it looks like an easy fix for just a few bucks. Any other dealer might tell the buyer the fix was $400. Since he was splitting the cost, he would pay the dealer $200. Cha-ching. You are a good honest person. You don't cheat. 👍
If causing a customer inconvenience of extra 8 hours of driving (2h each way x2 round trips) to fix what was clearly advertised as working (otherwise buyer wouldn't have paid), then forcing them to pay half of this hidden fault is "fair" to you, I pray I never run into any of your items for sale

@ 12:55 - I am a slot technician but only on current technology. Then trying not to admit it, they would try to go half on the cost to fix it again or pay for the part needing replaced. The buyer bought it - and swapped/sold parts out of it. I would have told him to GFO
Kudos to Ruby and her comedic timing lol🤣
The customer seemed far too pushy to me, almost forced you into paying for the repairs. I’d offer him his money back and say that’s all I’m willing to do!
As is, fix it yourself. I had a similar experience. My husband was a Karaoke host. He passed away in 2011 and left me with a Karaoke machine. A neighbor bought it for $1,000.00 and took it to he bar that purchased it. It was checked out at my home before it was transported. It worked perfectly. Photos were taken to ensure wires were where they should be. It didn’t work at the bar. Nothing, no sound. I didn’t know what was wrong, I didn’t build it. I was sorry but didn’t give the money back. I left the state and don’t know if they ever figured out what happened.
Yeah, exactly.. This is one of these things, wher eits buyer beware and as a buyer, you should be going over it and making sure you are happy with it.. Heck, i even see people in shops, where stock is brand new, and here they are opening up boxes to cheeck inside and then they leave the box that they opened and take one that is unopened. Customers are PIGS!!!!!!!
This the type of Ebay customer that buys brand new Cell Phone for 500$ then week later opens a return and ships back a broken phone from 15 year's ago
I've been in a loyal Watcher of your show for about 3 years and I don't believe you were trying to rip him off with that slot machine it probably is something you can fix. That was classic at the end when you did your magic trick turning honey into Ruby and then she pooped, that was classic.
When Pete extends his hand before the amount the guy wants is out of his mouth, you know the guy shot too low. Do your homework, sellers.
I think he's sincere about it. It makes no sense for him to drive 4 hours round trip and leave it behind without receiving a refund if he doesn't want to keep it. Maybe a little high strung, but I don't think he's scamming you. He wants it to end with a working machine.
It’s amazing you even entertained helping this guy. Everyone knows what you buy from a pawn shop is AS IS. No returns. It is up to the buyer to check it out and decide if they want it. After that it is theirs…PERIOD.
This guy needs his own show.
Yeah it’s right here. You’re watching it.
