Craftsman tools forged in USA go for decent money. Current Craftsman tools are no longer made in the USA and are considered junk in comparison.
Just because he no longer uses air tools does NOT mean he no longer has the compressor and tools. He could be holding on to them just because he wants to. I'll never depart with my tools. My wife and/or kids will have to deal with all my tools, after I pass. I'll never sell them.
Personally, I think you cracked there....I wouldn't have given him $100 after he took all of the goodies out.

I would have started at $80 for the tools/box. Once he took 1 thing out... It would have been a hard pass! Everyone thinks a resale store is going to give them near full retail... If you get over 50% take it an run!

The kid and his watches was probably the most wholesome exchange I've seen ever. They were both very genuine and humble and the way handled it was great.
Not all old watches are worth money and not all newish watches are worthless. It takes a real watch expert to known how valuable watch's can be.
I've been going back through his catalogue since discovering his channel the other day. By FAR his interactions with young customers are my favorite. Patient, kind, and never speaking down to them...and in the process, he always teaches something. Beyond wholesome.

I sold 37 plastic model kits on eBay , for that whole month it was like I had two jobs , in fact , the effort and time put into selling these 37 model kits caused me list productivity in my career job . Bottom line , the entire exercise of selling those 37 model kits , not only cost me money , it caused me anxiety and grey hair . Folks , Do Not Beat up on A Retail Man like Peter , nope , Peter works very , very hard to make this niche of the American Dream to work . In fact , no doubt about it We should support this Man’s efforts and his store . Fine American He is , damn fine American.

Honestly I thought the wine opener would be worth more. It must have been a cheap one. I have seen some auto wine openers retail for $200. Wine snobs will pay premium for these kinds of things.
Tools seem to hold very little actual value. I remember my old neighbor had a full workshop in his basement with literally thousands of tools. When he died, his son tried selling what he could and had yard sales. Made almost nothing. He ended up telling all of us neighbors to just help ourselves to it. Pieces that are half a century old have lasted longer than the new junk they sell today.

The people who sold it to me had packed up and moved house by the time I went to return it…. There was also a person who bought a bike looking for them at the same time I was there. The tool guy was real real tool. His song and dance was a clown show to me. As he kept reaching into his pocket to pull out his pink paper. Notice he stole the store owners pen as hes tried to squeeze every last penny from the deal. I would have showed him the exit door..

At that point, even though it should have been about a $75 exchange, I would have added $25 just to get rid of the guy and deal with better customers..Time sunk costs are bad.

I was just thinking about my Swatch I had from the 80s the other day! It was so awesome with black and white racing flag/checked wrist band and big round face with pink and white face. I really can’t remember the face as much as that band. I wore it to the beach every day all summer and had a permanent tan line lol. I would go back to the 80s in a heartbeat right now! For kicks and giggles I should Google that watch and see what I find. Of course I don’t remember what happened to it. Battery probably died lol 😂 thanks for the memories Pete ❤
People like Tim the Tool Man are such an anxiety inducing thing. They do it on purpose. They drain you until you cave. I’m still learning how to deal with these people and I have worked at a gas station off a busy highway for a few months now lol.

What a night and day transaction between the tools guy and the following gentleman with the watches. Really shows the highs and the lows of the business. One guy wants to milk you for every drop he can get and the next guy literally donating stuff. Of course he said he doesn’t want to move it cross state but it’s still a really nice gesture that means nothing but profit. 🙂

Love the show. I worked part time in a small pawn shop when I was in college. I never got to make deals, I mostly just did inventory and what ever I was told to do. It was a cool job. Lot's of the same people would come through every month or so. We did a lot of small loans as well. Boss taught me about price vs value. Even though he negotiated, because people expected it, he knew exactly what he was going to pay for something right after a good look and appraisal (done in his head as no internet then). He was a super cool guy. Very good to me.
Since I was having to work 3 jobs to pay for school, he let we work more hours than he needed and when I he knew it was close to Christmas, he'd make me a great deal on a present for my girlfriend. Less than he'd paid for it. He'd probably gave it to me but he knew I'd neve accept it.
Never liked the guys that you knew were trying to rip you off. Those people he could smell a mile away and people he thought were thieves, he'd not even talk to them.

I have dealt with some stores in the past and have seen them try to rip people off like crazy, but you have always seemed to be very fair to me and I have enjoyed watching how patient you are with some more challenging customers. I collect Swatch watches and that was a 1989 Grey Line GB411. Worth about $35. A little secret: The date on the watch dial is the copyright date 1988 that is usually a year before the watch was released to the public. The real date of the watch is on the rear, like 9315-P would be 9-1989 31-week 5- day of the week.
Also when I seen that guy with the tools I thought it was 'Classy' Freddie Blassie, the wrestler, although he passed away several years ago.

I had a pawn shop I went to as a kid and his name was “Honest Abe” and he treated me just like that and schooled me and I went there often for the next 35 years until he retired. I collected WWII stuff and he would call me from all over the states to tell me what he found for me.. Pete reminds me of him.

That absolutely makes sense. I'm a small business owner and i give estimates all the time and a lot of people wonder why the price is so high and i try to explain to them pretty much exactly what you just explained. Everything that goes on behind the scene the overhead the wear and tear the gas the equipment and tools and materials and the cost to the business owner not even including paying yourself a salary there is very little to none left at the end and then the actual business makes nothing then that business goes out of business. People don't realize.
Unfortunately there are also people who do realize, they just don’t care. There are a lot of selfish people out there that want what they want and don’t spare a second to think about anyone else.
Peter, I recently viewed and decided to subscribe to your channel. From what I have viewed you are the most honest and patient person in this type of business. I watched the video on the guy who kept taking out tools from the box and then going back and forth and looking at his list. I'm in Canada and I can tell you if he walked into a store here and did that he would be told short and sweet pack up you stuff and leave. This guy reminds me of a woman who tried to sell me a curio cabinet a few years ago. She felt that the cabinet was so valuable, but, it objectively was in bad shape-busted, scratched up, yet her misconception of its inflated value meant that she was stuck with it and would have to waste time going through scheduling appointments that would not go anywhere. I ended up buying a high quality cabinet for a great price, by a family who had used it for 20 years, and didn't quibble about the price.

It’s amazing how people tell you how to run your business and you are very patient and gracious with people.
I went to a convention center where I live in Pittsburgh, and they had a bunch of different pieces of art and things that people make.
1 person had a few different chairs and couches made out of Antique classical cars, much like the one that you showed.. They were beautiful. I fell in love with them. I wish I had that type of money to be able to afford a gorgeous chair or couch like that.

The guy with the tools, I literally have complete tool sets from the nineteen-teens to when they closed their last retail store in the area about ten years ago. I watched their close-out sales until they hit 50% off, then went in and spent almost $900.00 on set after set of tools; I know I have more tools than I'll ever use; most of them are still in the packaging, but there's a difference between needing tools and wanting them!!
When that guy said, "You put something for a quarter and some F'er wants to give you a nickel for it," I would have told him to get lost. That was his covert way of aggressively insulting Pete and his offers. Not cool.
Also another important aspect concerning the metal sculpture, one must calculate the space it took up in his inventory. Even if it's small, every square inch of that store is leased. A 1000 small items takes up a lot of inventory space, thus effecting the bottom line if it sits in inventory for too long.
Love seeing you teach that kid. You definitely instilled an interest that will never die in him.
