- RODNEY MCKAY actor David Hewlett is back on "Dial the Gate" to talk tech, Stargate Atlantis, and to answer fans' questions! In this clip the actor talks about one of his most memorable days on the set of STARGATE ATLANTIS - before filming even started for his character, when he first saw the beautiful new set for the spin-off series.
In this clip David also brainstorms names for his sister Kate's baby, his character eating and drinking in scenes, and the Stargate production's amazing on-set catering.

David was the best thing that hit SG ever. i love them all but david got a spescial place in my heart.
Rodney went from one of my most hated characters in SG1, to my most favourite in Atlantis. I have so much respect for the actor skills of David Hewlett, some of the episodes in Atlantis took some serious skill as an actor.
It was interesting for me, as I watched Atlantis first, so watching SG1 and seeing Rodney when his ego was at its peek was both fun and a bit infuriating at the same time, same with his boarder line creepy actions towards Carter
Lol yes, I actually watched SGA before SG-1 (fully) and when I saw Rodney in SG-1 for the first time I was like "Who dis"

I agree with you, Shane. Well, he was never hated by me, but as episodes went by I came to realize not only the importance of the character, but just how great an actor he is. He's remarkable. I'm currently watching the series again for the second time and enjoying even more. Hope life is good for you and family.
Having Rodney not only show up in a principal cast, but actually start to IMPROVE his life and diminish his ego was a great character arc. David and his sister playing siblings was always a treat.

He had the best and only real characer development on the show. He made the show. He is great how he can get people to endear to him even though people found him absolutely horrid at the beginning, never would have hough Sam would warm up to him. it felt real.

@@cypherglitch He also bought all the Atlantis sets for storage. So if there is more Stargate to come, It's not unthinkable that a few episodes could focus on Atlantis 15 years later.

I could not stand McKay at first. I love to hate the self-centered jerk but it was wonderful to watch the character growth through the seasons. He almost beat out Sheppard toward the end
I dont know the name of the episode where rodney slowly looses his mind but it to me was one of the best performances ive ever seen on the entire stargate series. I cannot watch it and not cry. David your definetly one of the best.

The Tao of Rodney was another tear jerker. Carson's death - the end scene where he talks to Carson's ghost - Soul touching.
He looks so good for his age. Some of the Stargate cast has aged wonderfully.

Absolutely my favorite Person and favorite Character in SG. Hope we will see him play Rodney again sometime.
David's acting in that episode where a fellow female scientist is trapped in Rodney's body demonstrated what a great actor he is.
I miss this show. The set was so beautiful and the "Ancients" music so mysterious and lovely.

Been rewatching the entire series starting from 2 weeks ago. Not only it is childhood memories to me.. it inspired me to love science fiction. In retrospective I have to say that the cast was acting phenomenally selling us the story so well. Well done!

Rodney is a favourite character in Star Gate Atlantis. Liking the comedic parts, especially the episode where Rodney's consciousness is shared by a female consciousness after they were both taken by a Wraith. At first they couldn't be separated until using the gate to materialise as two again. Very funny as David jumps from one personalty to the other, and then in female mode kissing the Scots doctor lol
I wonder if David knows,… Truly knows,… Just how much he contributed to sci-fi fandom.
Now I have to go and srart it all over again. I love David had the best lines, and delivered them perfectly. What an actor. Bring it back!!!

Watched the dementia episode recently and he made me cry with his acting .
Watched SGA when it was first broadcast and loved it, now with lockdown both wife and i can do 3 or 4 episodes a night, and to my mind its still the Rodney show , and i mean that in a nice way.

The best actor comments Ive seen about eating in scenes cane from the various main actors from the old Walton's program . They had a dinner table scene in just about every episode, and it took them a day to film those scenes. By the end of the day the food was inedible and in general was a scene continuity nightmare

What I'd give to talk to David Hewlett, get an autograph, and take a picture with him. It's OK. My hubby is aware of my crush. We are both huge Atlantis fans. In fact, my husband is the one who got me into Stargate. It was before getting blown up in Iraq. He has suffered a great injury, but he still loves the show.

I love stargate please please tell me is Brad bring out new stargate with old cast sg1 through out all stargate or new young cast?
One of the things that bugged me early on, was Dr. Kavanaugh. His only function seemed to be ranting and raving about how Rodney McKay was spectacularly wrong about everything and how everyone should listen to him instead.
Go back and watch some of the early stuff. He was quite the annoyance. They soon shuffled him out of there, and brought him back maybe once or twice, to remind everyone why we don't like him.
One of my favorite episodes was where McKay almost ascended like the Ancients, but then backed off at the very last second.
I remember how he wrote all sorts of complex formulae all over the walls, and they had teams of Earth scientists spending years trying to decode them

I really love SGA and I keep watching it multiple times within a year. It never gets boring. For me is one of the BEST (if not the best) sci fi series ever made. Every character is awesome, so much chemistry between the actors and of course I love Rodney McKay. David Hewlett is such a brilliant actor and it seems he's a cool man too! By the way, is there anybody out there who knows the music track played when the team arrived in most of villages (the same music plays in multiple episodes)? For example S01 Ep14 "Sanctuary" when Shepard and his team arrive in Proculus and they meet the first villagers. I keep searching for a couple of years and yet no info... It sounds like it's Joel Goldsmith's music but none of the tracks I've listened so far hit the point... It would be greatly appreciated if someone knows anything. Thanks in advance!

I found Jessica Steen a much better Wier, but she declined a permanent role on SGA as she did not do tv shows, really. Only one-offs.
