  • What adjustments must Tyson Fury make in order to win the rematch with Oleksandr Usyk? Most people will probably be picking the Ukrainian to repeat his victory, but don't rule out a nineteen stone man with skills who's a proven commodity.

    CAN he beat Usyk? Yes. Can Joshua beat Usyk? Yes. Can Dubios beat Usyk? Yes. Can wilder, Zhang, Parker etc etc? Yes. WILL they? No. None of them will beat Usyk he is levels above them all skill wise and mentally. I think Fury has done as well as he can, if he gets back in he will get stopped worse. He was stopped this time, defenceless and not figthing back, ref should have called it off right then and if Fury had been battering Usyk like that you can bet your life savings he would have.

    Unless Usyk makes mistakes I don't see it. Usyk has too much endurance and resilience that Fury can't outlast or overpower.
    Fury can train all he likes but as such a big guy Usyk's tank will always be deeper. Fury can bulk up for damage but he'll just make it easier for Usyk to dance around him.
    Everyone cheering Usyk for overcoming a weight "disadvantage" misses the point that heavyweight has no upper limit for a reason.
    Bigger isnt always better at the top.

      @@thanevakarian9762 I think that’s a possibility, but other variables include Usyk adapting to Fury now they’ve both faced each other. I think Usyk adapted to what Fury was doing in rounds 4-6 by stepping more to the right and making Fury punch across himself with his right. Team Fury can’t go in with the plan to box as they did in 4-6 and expect to be successful. Hopefully they won’t be able to rely on a corrupt WBC judge to give him a W either

    Bellew is correct - Fury has a puncher’s chance. The problem being , he has to plant his feet and throw over his front foot which leaves him vulnerable to Usyk’s counters. Usyk has downloaded all the relevant information from that fight and now has Fury’s number. He knocks him out next fight

    7:47 I can't agree with that , I've never seen Fury throw more shots to the body than he did against Usyk. The "Usyks weak to the body" notion is a false one anyway , he's never been legitimately dropped by a body shot as a pro

      That “vulnerable to the body” business was perpetuated by Warren and Dopey Don…because they knew they would be going for the groin (re-named Solar Plexus by former Warren sycophant Spencer Oliver). Warren even tried saying that Joshua was wrongly penalised for it as well but, Joshua has never complained and to be fair to Dubois, he didn’t complain at the time either.

    Anything can happen in boxing (especially at heavyweight) but realistically, no. Tyson was in decent shape for this fight, his reflexes were as sharp as usual, he was moving well, good movement etc, but everything that was supposed to win him this fight (the body shots, grabbing and leaning, using his reach behind the jab etc) didn't work. He came out for round one behind the jab, extending his arm to use his reach, but Usyk was too quick, agile and accurate, and simply sneaked past it and was hitting Fury's midsection from the off. Despite Fury's own speed and reflexes, Usyk was more than a match for it and landed more shots on him than anyone in Tyson's pro career. It is true that Fury did land a monster uppercut in the middle rounds, of the type that laid out Dillian Whyte (this is why nothing is certain in HW division) and it did hurt Usyk, but he took it, danced round the ring for a moment, kept himself protected and then came back at Tyson. That punch resistance is another string to Usyk's bow that we hadn't seen before. But what really made the difference was Tyson being forced to keep up with Usyk's constant, intense work rate, which he was not comfortable with, and which takes its toll mentally as well as physically, leading to lapses of concentration down the line. I said that this would be a key factor when I posted my prediction on Counterpunch Boxing News, and it has been a key element in Usyk's previous victories. This fundamental is not something that Tyson can change, especially with his size. The only change he could make, which some pundits have suggested, is to come in heavier and use his weight; but I believe that would also be futile, as Usyk has demonstrated his ability to deal with the clinching and leaning, and foiled Fury's attempts to maul him on the inside. In fact it is more likely to lead to an early night in Usyk's favour, as the extra weight would make it even more difficult to maintain the pace set by Usyk. Fury's ego demands that he take the rematch, but he should seriously think it through. There is nothing more debilitating or dangerous for a fighter than sustained, successive heavy blows to the head when he is already only semi concious and unprotected. If losing his "0" was hard to take, what will it do to him to step in with Joshua after two successive losses, one or potentially both of which may have taken their toll on him, not to mention his previous struggle with Ngannou?

  • @chrisstrange9828
    @chrisstrange9828 Месяц назад +5

    To beat Usyk Fury has to takes risks. He was always afraid of losing his "0" now that has gone he will fear being stopped/KOd.
    Especially after that 9th round he will be too wary of really going all out on Usyk. And unless he really goes for the stoppage I don't see it going any different than the first fight.

  • @bigbaby9095
    @bigbaby9095 Месяц назад +4

    As a novice fan my perspective is, Fury needs to go out and try get it done within 6 or 7 rounds in rematch. Try maul him easier said than done of course, but if you can hurt him, pounce. This taking the back foot and giving up space and letting usyk move will be a reapet of the first. FURY will tire going all out but even if he doesn't stop him in 6 but hurts him, he will gain confidence and might spur fury on to hang on and even get a decison but if he goes in with same tactics, will be same outcome. He has to use his size, but as i said easier said than done. Usyk us used to being the smaller man.

  • @JamesKimFightFan
    @JamesKimFightFan Месяц назад +3

    Absent the knockdown and point deduction in the 9th round, two of the judges apparently did not see Usyk winning that fight. I don't believe in the myth that a close fight can't be a robbery or attempted robbery. I saw Usyk clearly win that fight, as most did, which makes me think if Fury stays on his feet and keeps it close, he may get the nod regardless. If boxing wasn't crooked, i guess it wouldn't be boxing. Still, it was worth every bit of the $70 it cost to watch Usyk lift all the belts. What a Champ that guy is.

    The problem for Fury is he believes his own rubbish. He has the typical bully mentality, in what he says and how he boxes. Fat and out of shape does not matter, I am bigger and better than everyone. He had dodged any real competition since the Wilder fights. That says it all, HE will not at this stage of the game be able to change WHAT he is and HOW he fights. His beating will just come easier and faster for Usyk IF there is a rematch. To say that Usyk is vunerable to the body was put to bed in this fight as Fury hit Usyk with some good body shots and Usyk took them, same goes for Usyk chin, some good uppercuts and Usky took them.

    The interesting thing about Usyk is his consistency - his level of performance is just 'up there' every time he fights and he doesn't have off-nights in any meaningful sense.
    Fury would need a career best performance to have a realisitic chance of winning and I think that's unlikely.
    Not impossible but highly unlikely...and yes, John Fury needs to be dropped from the camp. Too much baggage and attracts too much negative attention.

  • @greysson2933
    @greysson2933 Месяц назад +2

    I actually think Fury stands a better chance of winning the rematch than Usyk does, to be honest.
    Fury has more areas from that first fight that he can improve on; shoring up his corner so that his dad, and arguably Andy Lee, aren't there to clash with Sugar Hill. Or, at the very least, get it so that it's just Andy Lee alongside him but have Andy defer to him to avoid any kind of mixed signals.
    Don't try to outbox Usyk like he did by giving him free-reign of the ring and circling him. I don't understand why Fury was allowing himself to be walked down and pinned in the corners repeatedly; Usyk's greatest strength is his movement, if you just circle around him and let yourself be cornered you're just letting him play to that advantage.
    Be busier, and be more spiteful. Fury threw 90 more punches than Usyk but that doesn't tell the whole story as Usyk was "suppressed" compared to his usual standards due to Fury's size and having to pick his shots as a result of it. It felt like Fury was happy to circle around him and just throw the odd punch here or there, generally a jab (and more than a few times a soft, lazy flick jab), for too many rounds. The body shots and head-uppercuts he threw were good, but it felt like after landing a few of them in the middle rounds he stopped. Less circling/show-boating and more purposeful action are exactly what's needed.
    Three simple (on paper) principles that Fury can take into the rematch that I feel would give him way more of an edge against Usyk. Compared to that, I feel like Usyk has a tougher task in taking on Fury again. There's nothing about Usyk's performance I think he was particularly lacking in, so I don't know what he could improve on. Kind of feels like the old adage about how hard-work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard, but if talent works hard then it beats hard work every time. Of course, Usyk's talented as well, but I just feel like Fury could shape up to have the edge coming into the second fight, just like he did vs Wilder. First go to figure out what does/doesn't work, second shot to put the improved gameplan into action.

  • @lukehaugen-strand8572
    @lukehaugen-strand8572 Месяц назад

    Controversial opinion but I think the fact that Tyson fought mostly on the outside was what was winning him the middle rounds. Because he was keeping Usyk at arm's length Usyk had to cover a lot of ground to get inside which reduced the amount of head movement Usyk could implement. And he was actually able to get Usyk to walk onto some shots. Joshua tried to stay in the middle of the ring with Usyk and Usyk just buzzed around him like a bee. Eventually Tyson's legs slowed down and Usyk was more easily able to close the distance and unload on him. I think the only way for Tyson to win is to somehow increase his fitness more and try and replicate the middle rounds throughout the full fight. Which is unlikely because Usyk has the best stamina in the heavyweight division. If he tries to stay in the middle and trade with Usyk, Usyk will knock him out.

    A question for you Joe - if Fury does leave Sugar Hill or vice verser? Who do you expect or think there is a genuine chance he could go with? What would you think about Dom Ingle? He praised Tyson a lot and I know Tyson has trained at his gym many moons ago I expected Fury to fight more like this in the first one and make Usyk feel your weight - and Fury is the type of character he would have the confidence to execute that style and put it on Usyk (like you say easier said than done) but Fury should have used a stiff jab with weight behind it and used his weight and tied Usyk up and one thing he never did was thrown that fast straight right shot that has in the past stunned so many opponents momentarily he didn’t throw it once - to me almost like he was scared to throw it or maybe Nelson is right and he’s on the decline and couldn’t pull the trigger? Also that body work he did for 2 or 3 rounds middle rounds was working Usyk didn’t like it and those uppercuts … he needs to be all business next time to put it on Usyk no showboating and boxing around on the outside with flicking jabs …

    Fury was smashing the middle rounds against Usysk when he took centre of ring , with those uppercuts etc, Usysk looked like he was hurt and running out of ideas, then Usysk being Usysk went up the gears and dug in deep I think the left Usysk threw at Fury and his nose was damaged affected Fury...I agree I think Fury was nervous right through the build up to the actual fight...Then there's the issue of Fury abusing his body over the years...Furys got the tools and physical attributes to beat Usysk and Fury can make adjustments, problem is so can Usysk, fact Usysks never been down in over 300 fights says it all...I like too see someone like Brendan Ingle train Fury...Gutted Fury lost , even thiugh I suspected he would I had a punt on a draw..Question is is how much has Fury got left ? Similar woth Usysk really at 35...Id be looking too retire soon as one of the GOAT imo..Fury needs to keep his defence tighter stop mov8ng around and overpower Usysk...Chisora showed how to do it imo..Fury threw some decent body shots I thiught personally ? One of the key differences between Usyk and AJ/Fury is that he's a true warrior who is happy to take a shot to inflict one. He takes more risks and so gets more rewards. AJ and Fury are more risk averse...had Fury been wiliing to risk being knocked out late on by applying all out pressure from the first bell he might just have got to Usyk and knocked him out early.

    Warren said, “Fury always finds a way…” He tried every trick in his book to get Usyk to “Leave him alone…!” But none of it worked…! The uppercut got him some points but he relied heavily on the showboating which was the only time Usyk stopped hitting him to just let him waste time…he even stopped him to touch gloves in the 12th. This fooled the judges and Richie Woodhall at the time but, I’m sure now they’ve seen the fight again, they can see that Usyk was totally in control from start to finish.

    Of course he can. You would think judging by the comments that Fury lost 10-2 or 12-0 and had no success. You would think that the bookies rematch odds were 90-10 rather than 60-40.
    If Fury radically alters his tactics, using Wlad Klitschko levels of clinching in between consistent bodywork (rather than jabbing and moving most of the fight) then he can win a decision or potentially stop Usyk, especially as the officials will likely favour him.

It’s a curious thing considering both times usyk struggled was breidis and less so chisora. Understand they are very different fighters but that is the blue print. I’ve said many times if the game plan always was to box on the back foot or whether he originally intended to walk usyk down but then got cut in first camp and was fearful of it reopening so tried path of least resistance or maybe when he lost all this weight and tried walking these faster guys down if he was dropped a couple of times so tried to avoid any shots on back foot. That’s why I picked usyk before the fight because there was too many “if’s” for fury to pull it off

    Usyk's opponents are stuck between a rock and a hard place, you can try and Box but he happens to be extremely good at it & they're not going to outbox him. They can try and fight him but he's going to make them very hard at it & drain their energy, on top of that he has the chin, toughness to take punishment and recover very quickly. It was fine people were saying about Joshua, "just go in there and stick it on him", now they're saying it about Fury... Do they not realise how difficult that is to do against someone like Usyk. If it was that easy it would have happened by now.
    Going from the CompuBox figures, watching the fight (ignoring the commentators) and the WBC Judge who gave it to Fury, this was a 9-3/8-4 UD for Usyk. It was competitive, not close. I would expect the rematch to go the same way, however, I would like to see Usyk come in around 220/221lb.
    With regards to Sugarhill, I always get the impression he talks a lot without saying anything, but I did find something intriguing during the pre-fight press conference, when he spoke about getting respect, wanting to be respected, he looked to his left towards Team Fury, the tone in his voice sounded like he was telling them to respect him. Maybe I'm looking too much into that, but I thought it was very odd. You should look that part up, Joe. See what you think.

    only if Usyk ages overnight
    this is my only concern with Usyk
    fury tried to age him out cause he knew it was his biggest test, fury copped a whopping from a passed prime Usyk

    Yes, he needs to have at least 2 judges and the ref on his side, cheat more, hope Usyks age catches up with him, and fight a perfect fight.
    All jokes aside of course he can. The fight wasn’t close as far as who won more rounds and who got hurt, but there were moments in a few rounds where Fury looked like he could do something. In reality I could see Fury maybe winning 5 rounds for real and looking better in the rounds he loses and getting the nod. I can’t ever see him winning a fair fight against Usyk unless Usyk walks into a KO shot for the first time in his career.
    Inb4 someone says Fury won 5 rounds or more in the first fight. No he didn’t. He won 3 rounds or 4 if you’re absolutely desperate to give fury rounds.

    if you fight usyk worrying about losing the fight you already lost.. the game plan for beating usyk is simply to device a plan to beat this guy within 6 or 7 round by k.o.... maximum violence take punishment.. it should be him or you on the canvas.. fighting this guy for 12 rounds is not going to work... joshua has a chance of doing so more than fury particularly under Davidson..

    He needs to box on the backfoot for this one.

    Fury is damaged goods, both physically and mentally. Usyk has retired him in style. If Fury comes back for the rematch he will get severely hurt. I don't think he fights again. He knows that Usyk is far superior and is petrified of him. That was a great version of fury, he had trained hard and was in peak condition and Usyk made him look mediocre, Usyk, the GOAT in my opinion!!!! For real

    Let us Usyk fans not be ignorant and arrogant like Fury fans were prior to the fight. Can Fury beat Usyk? Absolutely, of course he can. Will he? No, I dont think so. As much as Fury learnt from the fight, Usyk has learnt the same or more. Footwork, ring IQ and conditioning will always favour Usyk.

    He lost soundly and still won in 1 judge's eyes.
    Fight wasn't close but was on all the scorecards.
    Fury only needs to be marginally better.
    I don't think he will beat usyk but doesn't need to.

    Fury became too spoiled by riches to a point of no return. He is only boxing for the money nothing more. That rematch won’t take place especially if belts get vacated and Fury ”The Spartan” who doesn’t care about money OBVIOUSLY!! will think twice why do I need to rematch Usyk when I have a bigger prize fighting AJ. Everyone saying Fury did well against Usyk but for me he was humilated big time after ALL childish comments he did for the past 2 years ”No man alive” my cojones.
