  • Luke Thomas: Oleksandr Usyk overwhelmed Tyson Fury in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. But it didn't happen without a few setbacks and, ultimately, key adjustments from Usyk.
    What were those adjustments and why were they so effective?
    Luke Thomas breaks down how Usyk's use of level changes, feints, lead foot positioning and more enabled him to arguably become the top pound-for-pound boxer in the world.

    Usyk is just such a high level technical fighter, there's so much going on in his fighting. His ability to problem solve, test, bait and adapt on the fly is astonishing. All the while, he piles on constant pressure, sticking to you like shit on bedsheets. Once he has you figured out, he puts his foot on the gas and pushing up an already exhausting pace. Genius.

    That boxing IQ is what he gained from the 350 amateur fights he had, boxing became like breathing to him. Exactly like the greatest jazz musicians, they don't need to think about musical theory when they play anymore, they can just go by feel because it's all been repeated countless of times.
    Usyk is the John Coltrane of boxing.

      I recommend everyone to watch the Wallin/Fury fight. Unfortunately that fight has been wrongly assessed.
      Fury got cut because Wallin hit him hard in 3rd round and that power punch was not just a lucky one but was followed up by many more which was a part of Wallin's game plan.
      As for Fury's cut, he could see well enough all the time and throw punches to Wallin's body and his well guarded head, all of which Wallin took without being too hurt and he could therefore keep on counterpunching and had in fact Fury on the hook in the 12th round.
      Wallin was sometimes like Usyk in his fight with Fury.

      No. I mean, I get what you mean. There is a lot of chess going on in top-level boxing. But no. Let alone the amount of brainwork one has to do to get a Nobel Prize (aside from the one for peace of course), the actual prize money would be a fraction of Usyk and Fury makes from just this one fight. They absolutely don't need it.

    • @Smokinjoewhite
      @Smokinjoewhite 7 месяцев назад

      @@TheVampB Usyk solves equations while he trains, same with Loma. Their IQ in general is extremely high, not just their boxing IQ. Not saying they need to make a nobel prize category for boxing, but the years of dedication Usyk himself has put into his career is up there with any nobel prize winner, and he puts his body on the line every time to achieve it.

    What people are missing in those rounds 4, 5and 6 is that Usyk's gameplan was to wear Fury down. Usyk was losing those rounds but he was making Fury work at an unsustainable pace. By round 7 you can see Fury's footwork slowing down and his hands dropping. Usyk executed a top level gameplan which worked 100%, he had to go through adversity to get there but he did it.

    • @orestmakar8562

      Exactly! His coach literally told him to move pass to bait Fury into feeling confident enough to go into ofence. In round three Usyk gradually was decreasing the pase while staying in controll. Fury has not yet commited to ofence and was fighting carefull. In round 4 a similar story. Furry not commit to ofence while Usyk was machiny him in punches round 3 and 4 both guys had the same amount of power punches landed. Usyk was landing arguably the better punches. But Fury bein able to hit Usyk assumed he was getting tired ans in round 5 -6 commited to ofence 100%. After tound 6 Usyks corner tells him: He is tired ramp up the pace and go ibto ofence. Usyk again does nit fo it sreight away making sure Furys stamina has deteriorated. By the second half of round 7 usy he rampa up the pace and notices Fury cannot mach it. Usyk won round 7 and dominated rounds 8-12.all in all he won roujds 1-2, landing more power punches and rounds 3-4 were close but can be given to Fury. All in all Fury convincigly won 2 rounds which Usyk was not trying to win.

    I was one of the ones who rated usyk as a better boxer, but didn't think he had the size or strength to compete with fury.. I was so wrong and I'm kinda glad. It brought the best out of both fighters. If fury was gonna ever lose his undeafeted streak.. This is the way to lose a fight. It was a damn close exciting and unbeleivably technical fight. One of the all time greatest heavyweight boxing matches. No shame in losing to someone as amazing as Usyk, and it was a honor to watch these two finally make the superfight we never thought we would of ever seen a few years back.. Man usyk came in kicked ass and conquered all he might aswell retire. Nothing can now top what he's done. He beats fury 4/5 times atleast imo. He's to good. It's a shame for tyson.. Also if you go back and watch his earlier fights vs bigger guys like Joe Joyce even tho it was in amateurs without headgear, Usyk is as game as they come and will stay in your face and seems to be a natural fire fight type boxer who latered learned how to box technical.

Usyk always seems to nullify the size difference by maneuvering a position where he’s always near his potential for maximum danger

    Did anyone see Fury start to gas in round 8? Deep breathes and weakened strikes - I could see it. This is when Usyk started his game plan. It's almost like Usyk ropadoped through rounds 1 to 7.

    I scored that fight 111 -116 for Usyk. Gave Usyk the 1st 2 rds, Fury rds 3-6, and Usyk rds 7-12. I can see how some of those rounds could've went to Fury but not enough to change the outcome. Going in I figured Fury would probably win, but Usyk was all over Fury that entire fight, and he score a knockdown.

    Fury was easily winning the first 7 rounds, every punch Fury threw seemed to really hurt Usyk - then Usyk hurt Tyson in the 8th and Fury never recovered - his game plan went out of the window and he really looked in trouble. Suddenly, every punch from Usyk seemed to damage Fury, and as the fight went on, it was clear who the winner would be. A strange fight and I think the rematch will be fantastic. Fury needs to finish the fight quickly, he has 7 rounds to beat him and the longer the fight goes on, the more probable it is that Usyk will win.

    would have been good to see you go round by round , scoring the fight and helping us to understand how a close rounds are given to one boxer or the other...the eye tests showed that fury did a lot of good work, your breakdown makes Clear what Usyk did (outside round 9)..In the end a split by a point...a very close fight...would have been good to see how broke down the scoring and what you gave each round and why!...

  • @Garcia061
    @Garcia061 8 месяцев назад +1

    Really shows all those people thinking Fury was up before round 9 that he really wasn’t in control at all. Ofc a lot of this the judges aren’t gonna see but it was clear Fury’s attempt to outbox the boxer was just totally wrong.
