Thank you! Local Mineke charged me $200 and couldn't diagnose the problem and then they wanted $950 for further diagnostics! I resolved the issue in 10 minutes after watching your video.
Had no power to the port and was pulling my hair out looking to find out why, saw this video, may share a fuse with other acc you say, like the cigar lighter you say, my cigar lighter doesnt work, checked the fuse and replaced the blown one, i now have power at the port to do my scan, 10/10 for this video man, thanks heaps 👍😎
Good info. One thing to add. If there is no voltage reading, you may be able to isolate the issue further. You could put the voltmeter negative lead on the battery negative or chassis ground somewhere to see if there is voltage when the voltmeter positive lead is on pin 16. If there is, you would know that the issue would be the ground wire in the connector on pin 4. and not a fuse issue. Likewise, you could put the voltmeter positive lead on the battery positive and measure with the negative lead to pin 4, which would indicate the issue would be the wire in the connector pin 16, or the supplying fuse. Of course, there is a chance that both wires are bad!!
So glad I found this video before I went under the dash searching for a loose connection or broken wire! I just bought a $40 OBDII scan tool and the vehicle I needed it for showed NOTHING when I plugged in the brand new scanner. I verified the tools function on another car and it worked perfectly so I knew someone out there had the scoop on this likely common headscratcher. Thanks for saving my back and my time. It was the Cigar fuse under the hood that when replaced, energized the OBDII port and a simple fix!
Do you have extra obd fuse in your car Mine i just replace tire sensor in amerikas tire shop But when they are going to program in The obd reader in my car the port is not working
Thanks for Video. I was able to pass my failed emissions test do to "no power" to the OBD connector. I also avoided having to pay 167 dollars for a diagnostic fee at the local shop. The problem was a blown 10a fuse in the "Room LP" slot. I never would have found it without your video.

Very informative video. As suggested in this tutorial, my make/model did NOT indicate either in the manual or thumbing through many websites which specific fuse powered the OBD. I then turned to A.I. (open AI) and asked it to find the information specifically for my make/model. It provided an informative answer. So, if all else fails, you may try that method to identify the blown fuse.
Dude you are the man. Thanks! the car in my warehouse had this exact issue, the fuse ended up being on the engine bay panel but it was def there and had popped. easy replacement and saved me money from getting ripped off at the mechanic/dealership.

I would jumper 12v to the + pin and check to see if the rest of the port is Ok before I start pulling wires. The odb port is part of the ecu so if it won't talk once your scan tool is powered up, you have bigger problems than " no power" . I've never seen a truly dead odb port, always connections...we have a saying in consumer electronics: "silicon doesn't fail, connectors and capacitors fail"
@@jemelmongerI did that on my 96 dodge caravan, years ago. It worked, but I cut the wire feeding the port in case the feed was coming from the ECU, did not want to back feed the ECU. When my Jeep had a crank-no start problem and my OBD2 scanner(s) stopped working, the problem wasn't fuse or port corrosion, it was the ECU/ECM going bad. So with OBD2 scanner not working and no fault codes to work with, I needed to resort to testing wiring throughout w/ a Power Probe to eventually conclude my ECU had finally given up resulting in no spark at the plugs and no fuel at the injectors. $600 for an aftermarket ECU replacement unit, since Jeep had stopped making the part. Once new ECU installed (literally 5 minutes), Jeep started right up (after 3 weeks dead) and OBD2 worked fine again.

If i didn't connect to the power pin on the OBD2, will i still be able to get the data? My device will be powered from somewhere else in the car
So I was using a code reader to clear a check engine light for a gas cap, and as a code reader was reading the code it crack on and now the AC doesn’t work and it doesn’t read the OBD two port. I’ve never had this happen or heard of it happening.
Okay quick question. I have an 04 Honda pilot. Wasn't getting any power to the fuel pump. Went to the main relay only getting ignition power no other power. So I'm trying to figure out if it may be my ECM because I'm also not getting information for my scanner tool. I have power just not getting any Diagnostics or codes or anything when I know there are codes in the ecm. I know it's kind of a weird question in a hard one. But I'm getting kind of lost here. Thanks in advance
I’m in same boat. All fuses check out. And I mean all of them (my diagram of course doesn’t call it out). No obvi corrosion. This is on 06 Chevy Express 3500 front end of motorhome - cutaway chassis.
You getting power to the obd
Great video helped me out alot
No update on your friends obd not having power? Curious if it was just a fuse or what you ended up finding out
I've had a sudden crank no start situation w with codes leading to the purge valve and evap. I tested all that still nothing I went to test my fuses I had a blown ignition coil fuse replaced it it did seem like it wanted to turn over spray starter fluid still nothing so I noticed that my OBD2 Bluetooth adapter wasn't holding a connection it would connect but then it would disconnect so I took my Dash plastic off and it seems that the OBD2 port is very loose and I have to hold it in a certain position to get it to keep a connection any thoughts?
I have a 2013 Nissan Sentra and I have this problem. I checked all fuses and all work. I tested with a tester and it does have power. Do you think that the pin is just spread open enough to not make contact with my OBD 2 reader?
Just fyi, my cigarette lighter does work. Also, how do I remove the OBD 2 plug to check the pins on the connector?
Thank You
Thanks for posting
H! My reader is not connecting with the app but the blue light comes on when I plug it in so I'm assuming the Old port is getting power. Any idea what else it could be that would cause this? Check engine light on in my 2004 Jeep Wrangler. Thanks!
Did you get it figured out?
@@HuskerRed11 I did, thanks! I think I screwed something up when I wired up a back up camera summer before last because my battery keeps draining and my back up lights don’t work and it failed inspection so I’m waiting for the opportunity to take the damn thing apart. Go through it all have been able to drive it in months.
@Christine Leary Ok cool. Thanks for replying Christine.
I have 16 pins, all look good.
On my 2018 Chevy Colorado, state inspection stated they could not acquire a reading. But I took it to autozone and orileys both came up with a P0014 reading. Truck is running fine but any idea why state inspection could not acquire a reading?
I drive a dodge 1999 it will read for a little bit then the dash will say no bus then my scanner tool will only turn on when my key is off not turned on. What could this be?
And bilingual!
Awesome video bro!
How do u find the common wire to go off of if ur changing your obd port out..is it always number 16 or what? Thanks
do you have an idea about no power to interior fuse panel on 2003 wrangler
I’m just getting the dark screen on a 06 Sienna that starter and battery was changed. Now no power windows, seats or radio work aside from no power to port and no blown fuse. No power to fuse it has either….?!?!?
If wire is broken can you connect to another +
Just seeing this video.. I just had my transmission replaced, and a week later, my check engine light came on. I took it to auto zone and had them connect it to the code reader. Unfortunately, they said my car is not reading at all.. It use to read before my transmission was replaced. Haven't checked all fuses yet. But my cigarette litghter workes because my charger is plugged into it for my phone. Need help??
Thank you very much sir!
My old school ODM2 works but the newer one does not work? Are the newer ones not compatible.?
