Very helpful information. I couldn't figure out why my OBD II scan tool was not communicating with the truck's computer. I checked the power at pin 16 and found none, then checked fuses and found that it was blown. Replaced the fuse and it worked like it should and communicated with the computer. No codes came up so I now have to figure out why the engine stumbles at road speed?

My obd2 scan tool will connect to the ecm, shows trouble codes and will let me erase them to, but when i try to motor the live data, it disconnects. I've tried it on my 04 trailblazer and it does fine, but when i hook it to my 2012 Silverado it won't let me view the sensors or monitor the sensors. Any time i try to read the live data it automatically disconnects and closes the program i'm using on my laptop. Oh, It comes up with this ...... Calibration Identification - NA I don't know if that has anything to do with it but I thought i would let you know. Any help would be appreciated!

Question please .. I have a 2003 Hummer H2. On the message screen on the dash where usually says driver 1 or driver 2 I am getting “Unknown driver” ABS light on, battery light on, Windows, gauges, radio stopped working. Motor runs great. i’ve replaced BCM, ECM. I hook my scanner to it and get no communication. The port has five wires going into it and the tips All look good. I have worked on this truck for many hours and no luck. I’m going to check the OBD fuse I have not done that yet. But if blown would that also cause the Unknown driver which is causing all of the electrical problems, any help I sure would appreciate it very very much. Thank you, Richard.

Can you clarify the last part of your query? Have you read it with a scanner that has ABS access?

My OBD scanner gets power when plugged in, but it fails to get inside the vehicle system… it can’t find the right OBD system and just fails (Mitsubishi Colt 1.6 1999)

You mean it's says unable to communicate? Have you tried other cars?

You mean your scanner doesn't work on all the vehicles you've connected it to? It's like the tool has an issue then.

Not really true. There are scanners for less than $20. That was where I started, and actually did a lot of diagnosis with those.
