The state of Rajasthan produces 70 percent of the sandstone in India. Much of it is exported overseas to countries like Germany and the United Kingdom for use in construction and landscaping. But many of the labourers who work in Rajasthan's sandstone mines have paid a deadly price. In the village of Budhpura, the majority of men have died from a lung disease called silicosis. The place has become known as the "village of widows". Health experts say it is a result of inhaling small dust particles from the rocks. Many of the sandstone mines operate on a small scale, so the sector is largely unorganised. That leaves millions of labourers with little to no education or protection vulnerable to silicosis. But as the only industry in the area, villagers have no choice but to work in these mines in order to feed their families.

We understand that toilets are installed in many homes, but the owners refuse to use it, considering it unsanitary to have it in the home. They place produce in the tubs instead. If they remain obstinately closed minded and decide to not change their ways, this unsanitary condition will continue. They defecate in the open, step in it and take it into their homes, flies flit on it the stick to their food, so they are not thinking.
Post colonial railway tracks have been replaced a long time ago, only the few of them remain in the hill stations of Himachal Pradesh. Other than that open defacation is mainly done in rural parts of India, close to dense bushes. Why are you spreading misinformation?

A recent joint monitoring programme (JMP) on water, sanitation and hygiene by the World Health Organization and UNICEF released July 1, 2021 stated that at least 15 per cent of the total population in India defecates in the open.

It has mostly nothing to do with cost and mostly comes down to people not choosing to wear them due to them being very uncomfortable under the Indian climatic conditions. For example, most of the people who ride a motorcycle in India can easily afford a helmet, but you would hardly anybody wearing a helmet. It is because helmets are simply unbearable under the boiling Indian sun.

Great piece of cinematography
This was heartbreaking to watch. I watched my Father die from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (he was on oxygen therapy 24/7, the last year of his life, struggling for each breath) yet nobody could say how he developed it; these women know what will more than likely end their lives. They're working in such appalling conditions. I imagine they must also suffer with carpal tunnel or arthritic hands from pounding the rocks.
They still practice burning a woman unlive after her husband dies. Remember the lady said she would drink pois0n but has kids to look after. This is ingrained in them. They don't want to learn or get educated. There biggest concern their is how they can shift the blame onto Muslims, that's it. They don't think of solutions or they could be wrong, or that they are the rap capital of the world. Highest suercide of women in the world. Don't waste your time on such people.
