My good sir, you should look in to something called pyrolysis. It is a process that turns waste plastic in to burnable gases and pyrolysis oil which can be refined. Plastic is fuel, don't send it off to the dump. Building a plastic pyrolyser isn't terribly difficult either. You can turn that waste plastic into money just like all that metal.

You should try using tin snips for cutting wire. It works so much easier and it is less stress on your hand and wrist. It won't work for doing things like plugs when you want to pull out the brass ends, but for cutting a lot of wire it will save you a lot of time and ache of the hand and wrist.

you can heat the magnetic bit over the stove to quench the magnet, but it may also make the metal softer. or you could try waving it in a random pattern over a hard drive magnet to try and scatter the magnetic polarity

only recently come across your channel. been doing my own little marathon of watching your videos. loving your content and the scrapping you do. i live in the uk and it isnt so easy to do scrapping. id love to do it . but here we need a licence to scrap and the cost of the licence is highway robbery. typical rip off council.. iv been to Melbourne twice to stay with friends and listening to you and the street scrapping makes me kinda home sick. keep up the great work you are doing

Trick I learned on screw drill bits is grind off the point a bit on the phillips #1, not much a mm or 2 just enough that it fits better so they work better on #1 & #2 screws. Still might grind up the sides over time, you do a lot more scrapping then I do.

I appreciate your comments about watching the ads, Ben. There are limits, though. Anything over 30 seconds is not reasonable to me, as they generally have 2 of them, and not long between. They need to use the shorter ads- puts us in a better mood and we keep watching!

Not sure about schools in Australia, but here in the US. They usually upgrade computer equipment based on grant requirements. They are given X amount of money every year to maintain the technology in the school, but one of the requirements of that is for them to replace the equipment after it has been in service for a set time. But also here in the states, the working equipment usually goes to an auction and only broken equipment goes to eWaste

There's more to DVR / surveillance HDDs than just the 24/7 rating. Those HDDs have special firmware optimisations for that particular use case - the capability to continuously write multiple streams / files simultaneously.

I sell spare cartridges too when I get them, I work on printers/PCs, the black HP box are the newer style, the blue ones are older that were changed to black style so that dates them a bit too but the 4700 wasn't as popular it seems (haven't run into much to repair over the years) so I've had trouble selling those as well. I tend to just recycle the blue boxes now knowing they are so old.
Also glad to see I'm not the only one to clean off processor paste, I do that too since when I handle them it's just cleaner. I have tossed them all in 1 box for now and will have to sort them more when I go to sell them for scrap.

Anyway look forward to more tips and stripping stuff we haven’t seen. Cheers

Call me crazy but I think that all trash should be sorted to pick out recyclables before going into landfills. If stations were set up at landfills large conveyor belts would take all the trash along laborers that would pick out all the ewaste, metal, and so on for recycling. At other stations the ewaste would be broke down like it is in this video. I know it would be very labor intensive, but I think prisoners could be used, non violent offenders given credit towards their sentence would work well.
