  • Trash picking at it's finest today, AT 1:04:30 I found a rare commodore Amiga 1000 plus a bunch of cool PC's and all kinds of interesting scrap items.
Scrap copper was my initial goal but quickly got sidetracked with great e-waste finds in the trash, hard rubbish season just hit it's peak with the Amiga 1000 being my best find this year so far whilst street scrapping for treasure.
    Keep scrapping & have fun!

Copper is so cool - it turns up in so many unexpected places. Yokes, monitors, collars, spools, degausing cables that can split open to yield lovely shiny valuable copper. Love that coppah!

Probably the best score of the year! A first issue Commodore Amiga 1000 in very nice condition!
I have been dreaming of this computer for a while, I already have one but this one is perfect, just needs a good clean up.
Today's scrap day was amazing for me, right from the start I got 2 PC's and it just kept getting better.

Should go out for TV's more often and you will end up with PC's. LOL! The Amiga was a great find, I believe it was from the same family that came out with Atari. Can't wait for the next video.
P.S. For about $5.00 you can get a set of socket drivers for your drill so you don't have to bring a ratchet with you. I have a set(1/4,3/8 and 1/2) + a hex extension for switching out Torx and screw driver heads that are in a magnetic dish. Really makes life easier...

If you are going to start scrapping crt units in the back of your van, then organize a skid-deck at the back so you can rotate the heavy crt units (TVs and monitors) quickly and easily. That's only a sheet of thick plastic like what is used for wheeled office chairs when used on carpets. Look for some, you'll find it. Nice to see you are scrapping now in the back of your van. That makes things easier and more convenient.

I'd have grabbed that pile of 'Tote Boxes/Bins' that you passed earlier on but man, what a score! I listened to this to a fine 15yr old Kenwood amp. Nice kit. I'd have had all the loudspeakers as well but that's me. I know the question is "Why is is put out for scrap?" and I didn't see the inside of said 'Totes' but cool runnin' there Ben. Still, mind-boggling what some folks throw away! I've watched a couple of your posts on here and what excellent ethics! Good on ya.

So nice to see a veteran scrapper like yourself get excited by an old system! KInda funny in a way to see you babbling on about it, almost giggling at such a great find for your collection. I noticed several sliders missing from that mixing board so it might not work but it'll make an interesting scrap I guess. For me though, scrapping isn't my thing and it kinda hits me wrong every time I see you passing up speakers. As a stereo nut, good working speakers are always a plus to add to an already working system. I watched VidVulture tear up a turntable that probably could have worked and was shouting at my screen! LOL. I know you probably see dozens of speakers in your travels and always just leave them after clipping the cords. Sigh. Oh well, you know what you're after and it works for you. Wish I knew a way for me to get you to ship all those speakers to me in the states, although I know the cost would outweigh the value of the speakers. Well...goodonya Ben and thanks for letting us ride along with you on your adventures. For shut-ins like me, it lets us escape our dreary rooms and see a part of the world we'll never get to see in person. Cheers from the States.

Keep all fasteners removed when scrapping. Throw them in a small bucket and sort them later for anything you want to repair or build. You'll use them. Have a look at hardware prices for fasteners and you'll see that they can be expensive.

There is even a directly usable SCART-Chinch adapter sticking in the (Euro-AV-) SCART socket on the outside of the TV. SCART made it from western Europe to Australia / NZ (with their Chinese wall sockets ;-) ).

Sunshine in Melbourne is always a good spot too. That last big Sony at 52:00 you would have been better to do it on the grass instead of busting your gut lifting it. I usually take a litre of cold water, some ham and cheese rolls and sometimes a 500 ml bottle of coffee when I'm out so I don't have to go home to have a feed. And about your beautiful win, the Amiga, there's YT vids on how to de-yellow the keyboards, box and screen plastics. Make it look like new for us and do a vid, if you would.

I bought my Amiga 1000 in 1987 for £999. I think it was way ahead of other PCs as it had dedicated chips and you could load it with different operating systems. I didn't hear of anyone who designed another system, though. The expansion port on the side was for memory.

I wonder if you could scrap stoves and washing machines on the street? Maybe just take the back off and grab the nice beefy copper wire and silver contacts, maybe grab the whole control panel to scrap later. The flat back panels would stack pretty nicely for scrap steel.

If you're going to do that, pull the motor too. At least on dryers, the motor should be easy to get at.
