Which is the reason the PS2 went unhacked for a while. It already had Linux support which to most people seemed like total freedom since they could use their hardware in a desktop enviroment and download whatever they wanted
It's really impressing how great the security system of the Xbox360 is. Yes, it has been cracked already, but it's still a very good system. And think of the PS3...we finally got the private keys for that...but we never managed to get the private keys for the original Xbox.
They forgot to mention the fact that MS used readily available media for their games and the security hole found in the 4352 kernel. To be honest the only reason I purchased a 360. Go Ixtreme :) You can try but you will never stop hackers :) Homebrew for life!
having a good security system is great, it's a necessity that every console needs to prevent the unlicensed games, but, modding needs to be supported, not avoided. The great thing about the xbox 1 was that you could mod it and have tons of fun doing that, you need to have a clear difference between the modding and online games, and the effort should be made to keep the two seperate. Having your own modded private lobby would be a great advancement towards gaming.
No hardcore or entry level modder found this video interesting because it is full of old information. The truth of the matter is Xbox 1 does have a DVD firmware hack and the pioneer 360 hackers anticipated the 360 optical drive hack before the 360 was released. The Xbox1 firmware hack was kept secret for this exact reason.
um we watched this video in my high school programming class and we all seemed to be able to understand it. you don't necessarily have to be a genius; i agree that it's deep, advanced stuff, but some people are just curious.
Copying games is not the only solution. You have a choice to not play videogames, and find other forms of entertainment. Playing a console is a luxury, not a necessity. Driving a car is more of a necessity than playing game consoles. Just because you cant afford something doesn't mean you should go steal it. 1) You limit yourself on the amount of games you buy. 2) You buys games, trade in games you no longer play, and buy new ones) 3) Borrow games from friends There is no reason for copying.
@Yarach i think the idea is to point out that even great companies like microsoft have issues with their 'secure platforms' and that we should be allowed to use the hardware we rightfully purchased.
Funny you say it.. Every computer software would have viruses if they were used just as much as Windows, the only reason why there is SO many things that goes wrong is because there is such a big amount of user for the windows system and as you know when one cracks the system suddenly someone else is gonna do the same..
No actually Felix Domke is just a Genius. Why do you think MS met with him when he found out the hack for the 360 they wanted to meet the genius who found a bug in the hypervisor.
The vid misses out the most common recent Xbox hack: live swapping of the hard drive between the Xbox and a PC. Here the vulnerability lies in the need for the Xbox to unlock the hard drive to access certain information (eg music) whereupon it can be switched to a PC and modified.
Cloud saves is the best thing Microsoft has done with the newer systems. I have said this for years that it's probably the most vulnerable part to inject payloads. (of course crossplay with PC is kind of destroying that)
People who were ""bored" watching this obviously was looking for something else...This is the essence of hacking. most of these techniques go far beyond what most people are watching for, which is getting the xbox to run copied games.
14 mins in, says chain loading cant be acheivable Becuz they may implement programming that wont let you write and execute from 1 loader, BUT simple as installing a second program that executes there fore by passing hypervisors checks
donuts, if you got bored, perhaps you're not interested? Perhaps you didn't need to put up that comment? I watched the whole 56 minutes and it covered a lot, considering there was the separate origibal Xbox security system video. Personally, I liked it.
I can't find any information about the hypervisor code was initially extracted. Domke says he doesn't want it to disclose the secret, but this video is over 3 years old. Anyone have any information on how they got the code?
in the video they say that the ps3 has not been hacked, im pretty sure it has been actually, havent they found a way to rip entire games to the hard drive and u do not need the original disk anymore? correct me if i am wrong
the last part isnt really very true... the wii and 360 were both originally hacked specifically for piracy, even if it was only a dvd drive firmware. after that there was no incentive to even look for any other method. and it completely ignores the money involved in hacks and being the first to make a hardware modification that relies on a third party piece of equipment. allowing linux isn't going to get rid of any of this
Problem is as long as someone is determined to hack a electronic device it will never be safe. There is no way you can make your system hack proof. That is a impossibility. Yes you can make it more difficult to hack, however that tends to just weed out some of the hackers out there, not all. So in the end, like it or not. Someone is always going to best any kind of protection you slap onto a electronic device. ( Games,Security systems, Game systems, ect )
And if you want games under $20, wait a few years. Eventually, all current games will be under $20, even PS3. Just look at PS2, Gamecube and originao Xbox titles, you can buy most of those games are you local game store for about $10. Sure, they are last gen games, and last gen systems, but if you cannot afford a new system, why are you spending your money on it? Just because something is old doesn't make it any less fun to play. Lots of people still love their NES.
they destroyed the conference, the guy did not had any experience talking to crowd upfront. They should have hired a professional speaker or should have gave the guy atleast a MONTH to practice.
This vid is awsome!!! I dont use unlicenced games. It's just so wrong it hurts devlopers and the publisher and everyone else in the Industry, nor do I promote doing it.
This was the most interesting thing I've seen on YT lately. I havent been on in a long time but still...Its funny seeing all the security MS put on the xbox 360 and it still gets hacked...But i think that ms can fare better than sony with the psp. with open avenues like XNA and other platforms hobby programmers to get they code on without having to jump through all these hoops to get code to run i think its less likely people would hack the xbox this way,
@marionetadelplaneta Don't make stupid comments if you didn't even watch the video. He's just describing the Xbox's secruity system and how people hack it.
For the last two days my Xbox has been acting weird. The quick-guide is super slow and sometimes it will freeze the entire console, other times when I'm loading a game I'll get a message saying that I've been disconnected from Xbox Live. These things never happened before and only started happening yesterday. A friend told me I could have gotten a virus from a voice-mail that was sent to me. Do these sound like the kind of things that would happen if an Xbox got infected with a virus?
but what is it good for if you cant play online? sooner or later you get tired of playing SP all the time... i only like to play online because in there theres much more fun than just playing the single player
Wow, that list of reasons for "needing security" is a bit dubious, isn't it... "Copied Games" and "Unlicensed Games" are really the same reason. "Cheating" is questionable, because validation should be performed on the server, not the client. And the other two are not even valid reasons.
I have to admitt..... I kinda got what he was saying for the first ten minutes, but then after that I got lost.... wtf? holy crap, what the hell is "hash, hypervisor, sniffing bus, paging, kernel, physical adress, virtual adress, dvd lies to the cpu?" what the heck? I'm out of my league here.... Hey all I know is my x-box 360 plays custom sound tracks and I love that feature.....
It doesn't take very long for a game to become cheap, especially if you buy it used. If you dont want to wait, you cna always work a little overtime to earn that extra cash and buy it legal. Piracy ruins the industry. Piracy=Stealing.
in theory you could but microsoft uses high encryption and checks to verify the signature. if you could somehow find the encryption code you could resign your homebrew and the xbox would boot it. thought finding the encryption key manually could take years, the only reason the ps3 encryption got out was because someone leaked it from Sony
Why'd a software engineer study a programming language? It's like an author who'd learn how to write or a singer learning how to pronounce. They'd do research on their topic area, compile information - whether this info comes from Google and their Talks or whether it comes from a secondary source, like here. I'm not saying that all software engineers would use these talks, but some definitely would. Not to mention the potential of these talks to students who're learning about security.systems
Damn nerds. What would be an appropriate punishment for hackers? Lock them in a dark room, make them watch a low budget movie repeatedly.Maybe feed them something their allergic to.
what can you hack ? here the list 1.Nintendo Wii 2.PSP 3.Xbox 360 4.Ps2. SoftWare next List good. lol 1.Google Earhpro Easy To Crack 2.You can Easy Crack Any Program on the internet. google should talk about of there Weaknesses.
@304Stephen That's right. I didn't read the disclaimer. But Microsoft could learn a lot of it. But since Microsoft is quite egocentric, they probably won't listen to this. And now with the new xbox 360, Microsoft made the same mistakes again.
Obviously, now hackers have a reason to hack the ps3. I just hope if they do they restore ps2 B/C as well, since sony seems to like to take it's time on that.
@kllr101 in thta case u go to teh university and work in microsoft or do u think microsoft employees are watching this vid when tehy already KNOWN the 360 weaknessses
And PS3 was hacked after Sony removed the Other OS support, just shows that one must not anger the homebrew community
Which is the reason the PS2 went unhacked for a while. It already had Linux support which to most people seemed like total freedom since they could use their hardware in a desktop enviroment and download whatever they wanted
That bit about the PS3 at the end was quite prophetic.
It's really impressing how great the security system of the Xbox360 is. Yes, it has been cracked already, but it's still a very good system. And think of the PS3...we finally got the private keys for that...but we never managed to get the private keys for the original Xbox.

You could 'hack' the original XBox with a softmod, requiring NO extra hardware to override the original chips.
Frogger Beyond has a savegame exploit?

16:19 16 byte hash.... Isn't that kinda low?
okay just as an example call of duty 4 USED was 49.99 in bear delaware gamestop so some games just take a litlle longer but i see your point
for director status look under your edit channel under channel status just go to channel info (at bottom of page
No, just by changing files on the hard drive. I've modded plenty of xboxes and I've never had to flash or solder anything.
You had to select film directer as your type of account. But it doesent work anymore

Basically, but they are not located at the same data center
yeah but like how come they get to have hour long vid but common users are limited to 10 mins?
who actulaly sat in a chair and watched this for almost an hour
there is always someone that will find a way around
in the video they say that the ps3 has not been hacked, im pretty sure it has been actually, havent they found a way to rip entire games to the hard drive and u do not need the original disk anymore? correct me if i am wrong
Wow, I was going to watch this until I saw it was AN HOUR LONG.

i cant wait for a cfw to come out for it
Same here pal. Same here...
And what happened after Sony yoinked Other OS?
PS3 was hacked less than a year later.
Actually, it's the reverse, the Wii is for gamers on a budget. The 360 is actually more expensive than the Wii, but cheaper than the PS3.
Problem is as long as someone is determined to hack a electronic device it will never be safe.
There is no way you can make your system hack proof. That is a impossibility.

why wast the xbox live tab shown???
@daModder100 you do not need to jtag the console in order to get the KV. you simply need to dump the nand
And if you want games under $20, wait a few years. Eventually, all current games will be under $20, even PS3. why would you click on the video if, as you're implying, no one wants to know?
@marionetadelplaneta Maybe people who are intrested in computer security and how these things get hacked so as we can protect the system more?
its not the largest vid.there are vids longer than an hour
They've predicted Xbox One in 2008 kkkkkkkkkkk
They need to update there powerpoint for the RGH hack!.. :-/
This vid is awsome!!! I dont use unlicenced games. It's just so wrong it hurts devlopers and the publisher and everyone else in the Industry, nor do I promote doing it.
oh hey, it's the future now and developers don't really get paid for games, only publishers do, and their shareholders
This was the most interesting thing I've seen on YT lately. german guy at Q & A's accent made me laugh :)
very informative. Thanks for posting this!

maybe your wifi just sucks
but what is it good for if you cant play online?
sooner or later you get tired of playing SP all the time...
i only like to play online because in there theres much more fun than just playing the single player
I guess their next talk will be about the JTAG hack
Wow, that list of reasons for "needing security" is a bit dubious, isn't it... "Copied Games" and "Unlicensed Games" are really the same reason. "Cheating" is questionable, because validation should be performed on the server, not the client. And the other two are not even valid reasons.
Put the disc in the 360 then go to my xbox then Game Library: choose the game (COD4,Halo what ever)
press A; install game to harddrive. done.
yeah but what about games that are only single player?
well dont go there, sell it on your local craigslist. Why would you return it if you just bought it? Why didnt you just rent it first?
I have to admitt..... I kinda got what he was saying for the first ten minutes, but then after that I got lost.... wtf? holy crap, what the hell is "hash, hypervisor, sniffing bus, paging, kernel, physical adress, virtual adress, dvd lies to the cpu?" what the heck? The 360 has already been hacked to run homebrew, so you're already wrong on that. And never say never when it comes to hacking..
If i ever develop a device, then i want this guy to check it for security flaws.
nope you can save your game on the harddisk of the other console
but that's just one guy and the ps3 has not been hacked in a long long time until now, one has been hacked
That video ruined a generation of engineers. The state of the industry is terrible.
i always was confused about this"the console only runs the game when theyre signed"
cant you sign the games?!
in theory you could but microsoft uses high encryption and checks to verify the signature. if you could somehow find the encryption code you could resign your homebrew and the xbox would boot it. thought finding the encryption key manually could take years, the only reason the ps3 encryption got out was because someone leaked it from Sony
way to tell the entire modding community all the ways to get mods onto the xbox...
@vitormangraviti that's right
Why'd a software engineer study a programming language? It's like an author who'd learn how to write or a singer learning how to pronounce.

Yeah I was expecting some new information on this.
how so?
Why are you on a title called hacking if you clearly don't understand what hacking is? That's my question!
Interesting but far to long 14:01 out, but interesting.
davidthefat
Dude, Wii took 1 year to get hacked, 360 a year and a half, im pretty much sure ps3 will get hacked by december 2009
I didn't say you can't buy it, it that its pretty expensive
Neither do I, neither do you. But I still think it is for the public good if exploits are being made public.
nor i. mabe some cant look after stuff
there is this podcast called noobtube and its 2 guys talking about games and there show is always an hour long.
Damn nerds. What would be an appropriate punishment for hackers? Lock them in a dark room, make them watch a low budget movie repeatedly.Maybe feed them something their allergic to.
There would be no point of hacking ps3 unless you have a blu-ray burner
well when u get a college degree in computer programming all this is taught... not necessarily for the xbox 360 but hacking into other systems..
If you have basic hacking skills you can hack anything, not just the Xbox. Just look at PSP hacks and I-phone/ Ipod Touch hacks.
@XsV161Productions
oh ok now i understand
what can you hack ? here the list
1.Nintendo Wii
2.PSP
3.Xbox 360
4.Ps2.
SoftWare next List good. lol
1.Google Earhpro Easy To Crack
2.You can Easy Crack Any Program on the internet.
google should talk about of there Weaknesses.
to this day, we STILL don't know how he got 1BL
This was very interesting!
Didn't know they had the xbox 1 back then.
estaria para que le pongan substitulos en spañol!!!
@waterdragon1908 right! i just got educated in modding my box
@304Stephen That's right. I didn't read the disclaimer. But Microsoft could learn a lot of it. But since Microsoft is quite egocentric, they probably won't listen to this. And now with the new xbox 360, Microsoft made the same mistakes again.
46:30
finnaly!
They get it!
You cant stop the penguins!
Give up microsoft!
Did you even watch it all? it is very right.
i watched the whole thiing my eyes are burning
i didnt think the orginal xbox was a disaster its works aloooooooot better than my 360 which broke
wow! ive never seen a video on youtube that goes 4 56 mins!
oh
the security as far as hacking and modding was pretty bad
i cant believed i watched all this, what kind of presentation is an hour long?
GodDamn, you didn't have to make the video so long!!! I mean, almost an hour? Jeez
Obviously, now hackers have a reason to hack the ps3.
I just hope if they do they restore ps2 B/C as well, since sony seems to like to take it's time on that.
If u hack a 360 aren't u banned from xbox live?
That's a joke.
It has games, people ARE trying to hack it.
Hell, Java homebrew was working on it until Sony blocked it out.
@kllr101 in thta case u go to teh university and work in microsoft or do u think microsoft employees are watching this vid when tehy already KNOWN the 360 weaknessses
