In 2015, Conan was on Howard's show and Howard mentioned this episode.
He said he was mostly doing a bit, but it was somewhat informed by his negative experiences with Jay.
Conan ruefully said, "You knew exactly what you were talking about."

Conan bombed. They all knew he would. They set him up to fail so they could get rid of him and bring in Fallon and Meyers. Fallon was the real replacement all along. That's why they didn't get rid of Jay. NBC only gave it to Conan cause it was in his contract. This was their scheme to oust him. It worked as planned.

    • @motodog242
      @motodog242 3 года назад +9

@@NARKISDUDE I completely agree that moving to TBS for his last 11 years of being a Night Talk Show host was the best move for him mental, physically, and emotionally, since TBS gave him 100% control, and he didn't abuse it; he even tried to help TBS get sitcoms and Pete Holmes a talk show, but didn't stick, unfortunately. That being said, the other half of his career was in NBC (and Fox for those 2-3 years of Simpsons writing), they treated him well and he gave amazing television content, and, most importantly, Tonight Show was his dream job; he would've been fine, imo, but the scandal with kicking Leno out for his job would've ended his run quickly, luckily Leno stayed on NBC, NBC tried to ass-fuck the Tonight Show, and we all love Conan and hate Leno for those events that transpired, lol.
Anyways, if NBC didn't have a boner for Leno, I think he would've done really fine. He got all those A-Listers on his show on TBS anyways, didn't kiss anyone's ass, and even, indirectly of course, said that some celebrities are just crappy to interview when interviewing his closer friends or people that have a thick skin. But we wouldn't get Andy back, remotes, hundreds of actors getting a show under Conan's company on TBS, set changes, being able to take a year hiatus, changing how long the show is, and certain guests never being allowed on, due to NBC having a banlist; in the long run, we should all be kissing Leno's ass for being the scum of the Earth, lol.

@@NARKISDUDE that's accurate and it's also why Craig Ferguson wouldn't have been a good replacement either and why Stephen Colbert had to eliminate a lot of the things he wanted to do. That time period is for comfort food and certain big celebrities just want to talk about their last movie or show, they don't want to talk about anything else, their handlers don't want to talk about anything else, and these guys have to adjust what makes them great to begin with and it's not a natural fit. Colbert made the adjustment and while ratings wise he's doing fine he's also not nearly as funny or as creative as he used to be and it's why Conan wasn't as good and it sucks.

Here is the thing for me. I don't really like Leno, as an entertainer. As a human being, I don't know him, so I can't judge him. But I am not going to take Howard's word on it. I know more about him, because basically he does love to talk about himself. He is very self centred. I don't mean narcissist. But I just cannot watch/listen to him. He is the worst interviewer. He doesn't want to hear the answers to the questions he asks, he just wants the guest to validate his opinions.
As for Leno, Craig Ferguson had him on as a guest on his last show. Craig is/was my favorite Talk Show host, bar none. Pure Authenticity. So, if he had Leno on, it tells me that Leno cannot be that bad as people tend to make him out to be.

Howard is the most misunderstood guy in media history. Everyone thinks he's just a perv whose all about sex. While that is true (what guy isn't? Howard is just honest about it) he's also one of the sharpest guys when it comes to understanding human behavior. His predictions are almost always right.

He shouldn't of warned him about Leno, he should of warned him about the top brass at NBC. Leno didnt own his show, he didn't make the decisions.
Just like Conan didn't take Leno's job. The execs at NBC made a bunch of dumb decisions and they hyped up the drama. People will believe whatever you tell them if you're a celebrity. Howard fully knows that and hes good a creating drama and making a buck off it. That's his job.

For the people who say this is fake or staged, there's a video (actually it's more of just the radio show) of Howard talking about this and he even plays it back this segment. It's not staged or fake.

ummm. Conan himself is a member of the screen writers guild. That is why he striked along with all the other writers. It was NBC that forced him to be on the air because that was his job.
All members of the guild striked. Only shows that didnt use screenwriter guild members continued. (some cable shows dont use guild members)

Leno has the power to say something and be big about the situation.
He took the deal for the new show, 10:00 failed, time to walk away. Conan's audience was blooming just like Jay's had to when he took over from Johnny. NBC/Leno never gave Conan the chance to do the same.
NBC is the biggest douche in this, but Leno has the muscle to end it right and save face. After a year of "farewells" he wants to walk back into the Tonight Show and go, "Oops!"?
    Not on my TV.
    I'm with CoCo!

Howard has a bigger audience than Conan, Leno and Letterman combined. How is he irrelevant? He also has an open invitation to do basically ANYTHING he wants, whether it be making another feature film starring himself, or getting his own late night talk show. He doesn't branch out much because he's a guy who likes to get cozy in one place, preferably a dark room. If they're paying him, he's happy. He doesn't have to run around and be exposed all the time.
