What a class act. You NEVER see any talk show host (let alone anyone as big as Conan) literally tell his audience to stop watching his show and switch to another one. That's a very large display of class.
NESherv Jimmy Kimmel told everyone that they would be airing a rerun, because he has the same time slot as Dave. He wants them to watch his hero say good bye!
NESherv Kimmel did say the exact same thing and he's showing a rerun when Letterman is on . Conan's still my favourite late night host though! Just wanted to point that out.
Leno wasn't the reason Kimmel got his job. Kimmel said last night that after being a guest on Dave's show, ABC liked him so much that they gave him a show
"At one of the lowest points in my life, when I was a 30-year-old national punchline, Dave...for reasons that I still don't understand...completely rescued me." Damn that hit me right in the heart.

Well Kimmel and Colbert kinda gave a shout-out. It's bit of a bummer that the newer guys like Fallon, Meyers, and Corden didn't. Late Night as a format is dying, I guess. It's no longer an honored long-running tradition. Nowadays, it's just another tv shows for hollywood's publicity.
@@heatherperleberg7816 Even though O'Brian will have a new show on HBO Max, it won't be a late night show. Both men are retired from late night. Just like how Letterman retired from Late Night and has his Netflix talk show afterward.
Conan you have always, ALWAYS been my favorite. You still are. But I never REALLY knew what an impact Letterman had on the industry and late night in general. I would always hear 'he's a legend', 'he's a genius', but I never really truly appreciated him, to be honest. But now knowing what you've said, I have to sincerely thank him for doing what he's done. For not only helping my favorite late night talk show host out at one of his lowest points, so that he'd even exist, but for all of the other things I just don't know about that he's done, that are good. Thank you David Letterman, for giving us our Coco. You're a good man and may you continue to be blessed.
Wow!! I missed this in real time when it happened. What a remarkable and humble tribute. People seem to speak highly of Letterman. How wonderful that he gave so much to the next generation.
Connan also owns a big thank you to me .while in his first shows on tv we went 50 50 on a pizza but he didn't have his 6 dollars and and 30 cents for it . Out of the kindness of my heart I said coco I got this one and I couldn't look me straight in the eyes he was hungry . Connan God bless you and maybe one day we meet again
As an English kid I can’t stand American late night talk shows, however I love Conan and Letterman. David was a classy and interesting host and Conan is a comedic genius, his comedy is universally funny no matter what country you’re from.
What I absolutely love about Conan is the fact, YES FACT, of how sincere and genuine he is OUTSIDE of the business and television. He truly is a remarkable man and it's very apparent in his behavior and especially his following. There are very few people in the world who can possess and even continue being like this! God Bless and wish you another 20 years Team Coco!
Nearly six years later (I revisit this video often) and one thing I find more striking now than when I first watched it: For Conan, it was exceptionally meaningful to hear David Letterman telling him that his comedy was "very high-level, and the volume and the quality of the stuff just (knocked him) out." It was meaningful because Letterman had earned the gravitas to where such compliments mattered. By the time, Letterman was signing off, it was Conan saying that “we will not see a man of (Dave's) talents and comedic integrity again in our lifetime" and *Conan* that had earned the gravitas for *that* compliment to hold significant meaning.
I was only 15 at the time, but I remember the buzz around Dave coming on Conan's show that night. I never knew Conan was on the verge of being cancelled before that night. Such a great thing for Dave to do, and such a nice story for Conan to share on this night.
That is a touching tribute. I've just watched this for the first time (five years later). Letterman is still alive and well, thank goodness. Conan is always eloquent. I would love to see Conan have an online storytelling channel to include fiction and non-fiction...and Comedy. In addition to more cowbell, more Conan is needed.
You can tell Conan is genuine and is feeling real emotions with him. He buttons and unbuttons his jacket a few times. He really meant what he said and was slightly uncomfortable as he was revealing himself. Amazing class and he is by far the best night show host.
Conan is 100% right, what a tremendous story. You never know when a kind deed will alter someone's whole world. The moral is to keep doing kind things, simply makes the world a better place.
Everyone who started out with Conan is gone! and he is still out here doing better than the new kids on the block(fallon specially). there is no limit to this man's genius! I love u conan.
The Letterman/O'Brien connection has to be one of the coolest things about the whole late night disaster... two classy guys who both had a huge impact on GenX because they both had our ironic sensibilities
Conan is 100% professional. I had the honour to film for a day with him, and he never stopped working, from the word go. It was go, go, go, and not until the producers said "I thin k that's it' did he unwind, slow down, and actually relax and start chatting like old friends.
I hope others do this for him now that his last final episode on TBS is tomorrow. He's one who deserves such respect. You were the best of your generation Conan... And the same goes to every1 on team CoCo...
I've been a Conan fan since 1999 when I was old enough to stay up past midnight to "finish my homework" - I wasn't doing homework, I was making sure to stay up past 12:30 AM for Conan's show to come on. This man shaped my sense of humor to what it is today and I wouldn't want it any other way. So as he did for Letterman on his last night on TV, I too will cry if and when Conan ever stops producing gold. I love this man. Thanks Conan, you're my generation's Letterman - and then some.
3:01 we love you Conan. He's so humble and respectful and very funny... He's the best talk show host 👑..... 7:26 that thank you. Is so real. ❤️... This makes me want to cry
What turned me on from the first time I watched Conan was he had Superchunk on as a musical guest. That hooked me. Then watching him throughout the years, I realized, he actually connects with people. He's not arrogant, nor is he misleading in his views as a person. Humble, genuine and thankful. He understands comedy for EXACTLY what it is, regardless of political correctness. He's a treasure along with Letterman. Thank you Dave Letterman for helping a fellow human being entertain us the way you always have.

@@Charlezard. if that was real, that would be a mind-blown for him. People always afraid of not accepted as the next "torch-bearer", and they always forgot that they became "the original" after sometimes.
who the hell couldve possibly clicked dislike on this video?
Pints of Guinness Leno
The stoners did it.
DODEJMurphy I meant to hit like maaannn
Pints of Guinness the people who wanted to exercise their freedom/free will maybe? idk
You're fooling no one with that Z in your name there.
Makes me sad that no other host did this when Conan ended his show today 😭😭😭😭😭
You're right man, many celebrities gave their respect so that pretty good i guess
Well, Letterman was retiring. Conan isn't.
I bet Conan cant wait to do a thank you video to Leno.
leno is in retirement. he's gone already
+Anthony Syracuse I believe that's not what he meant.
I'm genuinely interested in this.
Is he? You may never know :D
Good riddance.
This was honestly such a genuiune, sweet, heartfelt tribute. Love Conan and Letterman!
Conan is the only successor of Dave. The way he attracts his audience and his incredible likability
Super classy and grateful
Connan also owns a big thank you to me .while in his first shows on tv we went 50 50 on a pizza but he didn't have his 6 dollars and and 30 cents for it . Out of the kindness of my heart I said coco I got this one and I couldn't look me straight in the eyes he was hungry . Connan God bless you and maybe one day we meet again
you are the unspoken hero
CONAN is a Comedic GENIUS!!!!
Simple acts of kindness go a long way. Class act!
As an English kid I can’t stand American late night talk shows, however I love Conan and Letterman. David was a classy and interesting host and Conan is a comedic genius, his comedy is universally funny no matter what country you’re from.
Conan, classy and graceful... thanks Dave !
Class. Pure class.
classy, respectful and honest. you're a good man, Conan.
Based on the video, Andy is immortal.
Heart-felt words from Conan, paying tribute to a legend in television; we'll miss you Dave, and thank you.
I come back to this clip once in a while.. Letterman and Conan both has such class, talent and comedic integrity its unheard of.
Conan is such a class act.
Awww "We love you Conan!!" Yes we do!!!
Nearly six years later (I revisit this video often) and one thing I find more striking now than when I first watched it:
For Conan, it was exceptionally meaningful to hear David Letterman telling him that his comedy was "very high-level, and the volume and the quality of the stuff just (knocked him) out." It was meaningful because Letterman had earned the gravitas to where such compliments mattered.
CLASSY TRIBUTE. So well said, so personal, so sincere. Well done.
Coco is such a classy man.
This hits hard now, as conan has just left late night programming, the last good host has now left... 😢
Kimmel was good for a while but he’s let his political opinions take complete control
You can tell Conan is genuine and is feeling real emotions with him. He buttons and unbuttons his jacket a few times. He really meant what he said and was slightly uncomfortable as he was revealing himself. Amazing class and he is by far the best night show host.
Only hosts I like are Conan and Ferguson
GrayWoIf
same here
I had heart attack when he Craig retired
Conan+ Colbert+ Jon stewart
GrayWoIf Yes... Because we care about your opinion....
It was a tragidy what happened in feguson. Dont joke like that graywolf or else one day you might get shot in the ass by a cop
What a sweet, simple message. I'm a sucker for things like this when they're genuine.
This is why conan deserves every second of his show.
A true man. I have been watching him for 16 years. He never fails to disappoint in any aspect.
I dont want the day when Conan retires..i think i might cry years of tears..
Wow Conan. You're such a great guy! Tears are streaming down my face... I just love when people honor eachother!
Conan is the most genuine person out there.
Conan is 100% right, what a tremendous story. You never know when a kind deed will alter someone's whole world. The moral is to keep doing kind things, simply makes the world a better place.
Conan has always been a class act, I also think he is one of the funniest people in the business.
conan is a legend
As a tribute to Conans show ending today I'm on a spree of youtube videos and in my journey ive reached here
Can we please get letterman on the podcast again?? Two of the best to ever do it
Great speech Conan. Always a class act.
Everyone who started out with Conan is gone! and he is still out here doing better than the new kids on the block(fallon specially). there is no limit to this man's genius! I love u conan.
I totally admire Conan's personality! He knew where he came from, and he knows how to be grateful 👏👏👏 #teamcoco
Conan is such a good speaker. I watch him to improve my English language skills. You see, I'm Asian.
Chris Z.B
You are learning from one of the best
The Letterman/O'Brien connection has to be one of the coolest things about the whole late night disaster... two classy guys who both had a huge impact on GenX because they both had our ironic sensibilities
That was really genuine!! Way to go Conan!! Most people forget who helped them get to where they are!!
Conan is 100% professional. I had the honour to film for a day with him, and he never stopped working, from the word go. It was go, go, go, and not until the producers said "I thin k that's it' did he unwind, slow down, and actually relax and start chatting like old friends.
Can I ask what was it about ?
@@mohiabro Conan survives the Australian Bush
This was so genuine, you could hear Conan’s voice crack as if he was about to cry. True class Conan.
I hope others do this for him now that his last final episode on TBS is tomorrow. He's one who deserves such respect. You were the best of your generation Conan... And the same goes to every1 on team CoCo...
Letterman = genuine class. Conan = genuine class. Nice to see that level of professional greatness continue...
I can only imagine Dave came on Conan because he believed how talented Conan is.
Conan and Letterman are utter class.
I love the silence from the crowd when they work out what he is proposing. Such a great sport.
Respect... The essence of being a real comedian is to spread happiness and laughter after all.
Conan will always be the most gracious person. I'm going to miss him, thank you CONE MAN!!
And this is why we love Conan.
This was when the student became the master. I will save this video.
Conan's speech that was really something hearing this. What a great man thanking Dave publicly for what he truly believes saved his career.
