Dad being laid up makes a lot of work , you really do have a nice set up the for the cattle but like everything you do it's very labor intensive , might have to pick which battle you want to fight !!! Hope dad is getting better ! Thanks for taking the time for the video!!!
Thanks Jacob & Alexis, this series was fun all things considered! I hope your Dad is healing quickly without to much pain! Where’s Brad? Stay safe and stay awesome Jacob!
I was born and raised on a small farm,My dad and mom farmed about 300 acres all together(Owned 120 of it) and it was a dairy,I had the best life a person could have,That changed when I was 12 and dad died of cancer and mom had to sell the farm.Thats just the way life works sometimes,I really like your channel because it reminds me so much of my child hood(I am 54 now). And I like your channel because it is the small farmer that really matters not the big government own corporate farms. All the big ones do is rape the land and get subsidies to help them get richer.I will continue to watch all the videos and a big heartfelt thank you for all your work and your farming.Keep it up!!
So very sorry Terri. I know your Dad didn't want to leave. My wife died of cancer a few years ago. God has a reason he does things. One day we will know the why of things. We have to have faith. We want be let down in the end. Take care!
One thing I like about u is u don’t need new equipment to farm like others do , which u remind me to what we have , last tractor we bought was back in 1991 which is our 100-90 hesston 4wd ,
Thumbs up for the pretty lady helping on the farm :) If you need a hand just put the word out, there's more than one of us that would be there I'm guessing.
Next time just try and unwrap the net the way it went onto the bale. No need for cutting it when the bale is standing like that. As a matter of interest how often will you need to rebed those pens ?
Exactly I grab the end and unwrap it works perfect I was sitting there watching going man while your playing with that one I could have unwrapped four or five bales
When I unwrap a netwrap bale I find the end of the netting and unravel it while I walk around the bale, works real well cause I never remember a knife. This works well with straw anyways.
Net wrap.. lol. When we still did rounds it was all twine wrapped... Pain in the butt, because you could easily miss some... Now it's 4×4 big bales 😎 The girls just spread straw today... 5 grass seed straw bales...
If you have a flail chopper hook the spreader on fill then back in and spread. It will be in smaller pieces soaks up better then when you spread in the field it will scatter better i know a guy dumped round bales in the spreader and spread them that way .Bonus it will drive the neighborhood nuts
The highest chance of mortality is with bottle calves. There's not much to them. In the summer, they'll be covered in maggots in 24 hours. I'll give the mass of maggots to the chickens. Other times of year we'll incinerate them.
Do you take the twine off your bales?? We're pretty fastidious about that, try to get every bit of twine we can, but we always lose some in the hay storage pen it seems... rake it out and pile up the duff and burn it. I've lost a cow or two over the years to missed plastic twine balling up in their guts. Not good. Grandpa always used sisal twine in the round baler because of that; he never liked plastic twine, BUT given the cost and general crappiness of sisal twine anymore, there's really no alternative to plastic twine. I've heard guys running hay through a tub grinder say they leave the plastic on and it's okay, but still seems it would make a huge mess of shredded twine that never really disintegrates, well, not unless it's exposed to sun for decades. Later! OL J R :)
It’s easier to unwrap the net wrap around the bale rather then cutting it. You think that’s fun, you should try taking it off of bales that sit outside when it’s 10 degrees and it’s rained for a couple days before that and it’s frozen to the bale. 😂 it can be frustrating trying to get it off the bale with frozen fingers, wind blowing, mud everywhere and hungry cattle crowding around you. That’s why I call it net crap. 😂 😂 😂
Normally you are pretty good at working the jobs farely well but this particular case you need to take some advice from people who are doing this every day in a bigger setting get yourself a razor knife unwrap the hay unroll the hay with your machine and then take away what you are saving for later I do it every day with a tractor but if and when the skidsteer is home now that's the ticket you can knock out some pens with the skidsteer
You’re right!!! She is pretty!!! Good helper too😀
Hope your dad is feeling better!!!
Alexis is the best 😊
We never cut the net wrap, we just find the end of the wrap and un wrap it. Plus it's easier to figure out what way to roll the stalks off.

Love the way you explain everything reminds me of when I was young helping on my uncles farm.

Amen couldn't say it better myself

Old tractors are where is at. No one will look back in thirty years and get the same feeling from a puma series case or an 8r Deere.
Nice to see you guys working together!
This video is great what a way to start my day Thankyou
Nothing better than a video from Jacob with my coffee to start the day!
We just find the end of the wrap and unwrap the bale much easier and quicker than cutting the wrap
Thumbs up for the pretty lady helping on the farm :) If you need a hand just put the word out, there's more than one of us that would be there I'm guessing.
She's is the best helper!! And very pretty. 😊
Don't cut it. Find the end and unroll. A lot less messy.
Do you want some help? I’ll come help
Help is always appreciated if you want to xome.
I'm glad your dad's on the mend.
Thank you

Glad I’m not paying him to bed down my cattle 😂
Here in North Mississippi. September not one drop of rain fell. That changed big time mid October. Hasn't stopped yet.
When I unwrap a netwrap bale I find the end of the netting and unravel it while I walk around the bale, works real well cause I never remember a knife. This works well with straw anyways.
Mellow Man! Workin smarter not harder BOOM
On John deere bails, if you look at the net wrap you want the wide stripe to the left and the twin narrow stripes to the right as you are pushing.

5 grass seed straw bales...
We use corn stalk bales to
Best thing for netwrap is box cutters but no getting around how much cornstalks like to get tangled in it, hay is a lot less annoying
How many acres do you farm ?
How long has your farm been in the family? How old are you? Are you planning to pass it down?
Dad is a First generation farmer. He bought the farm in 1988. My goal is to pass on the farm. I'm 26.
Moo Moos like soft bedding.
It really looks like the cows like that bedding.
Great video, love it
Scissors are you best friend with net wrap
Is corn fodder as good as wheat straw for bedding? Jacob
It’ll hold more moisture I believe.

When a cow passes away do you eat it or bury it for feed it to something else

From where are you

Yeah, always cut twine. Like unwrapping net better now.
nothing better then a dull knife
When are you going to put the cab on the 14
You say you guys fork down silage?
Yes, farm fitness.
Love it thanks man

You make life way too hard .
👍💪👏😷
Just unwind the net off the bale that was hard to watch cutting that net off the bale
If you try a linoleum blade in a utility handle knife, you would never use a pocket knife again.
👍👌🇨🇦❤
Just unwind the wrap
