When my family was growing ear corn back in the we used to have an old MM corn sheller that was constantly fed by a drag line like yours, the corn was loaded into a little bearcat hammer mill and shot into the barn granary in the loft for grandpa’s cows, the shuck blower had a tube on it that was right beside the cob elevator and both cobs and shucks got shot into one of those heavy duty bearcat foliage and grain hammer mills that really mashed everything up into powder, and was shot into the barn for bedding, some was used for spreading on the field.
Greetings from Central Alabama! I do a similar routine with a Gleaner K. I set the drum close so it grinds up the cob and shuck, then we mix in square balls of hay and roll it. Cows love it.
A bit unconventional equipment use, but it works. Wire cribs had a long drop for ear corn also, but not as much shelling. Perhaps the corn was too dry already when picked?
Too bad that bin didn’t work out as you had hoped. Could you get a sliding door to seal it well enough. Hard to tell from videos. My clean up thought was loading into manure spreader and bedding cows with it. Sling it in and out. Otherwise try the chopper in reverse. Sometimes they will pickup more. But you have the job done now and that’s why I hate commenting tips. Anyway I enjoy your videos. Will you be at the NFS next month?
I'm not sure. Depends on weather. Anymore, is just looking at stuff that'll be riddled with electrical problems by the time I'd be able to afford it in thirty years.
I knew you would regret doing this. Yes, it really looked like a good idea, but the practicality was questionable. I can't wait to see you do the next improvement to this structure to make it usable again.
Good job Jacob! I never thought about pulling the cover off the discharge chute. Very ingenious.

Great vidéo thanks you boehm farm great work and great setup 👍👍
Love your problem solving creativity Jacob!
I agree 💯
Necessity is the mother of invention. 🙂
I really like your unconventional way of thinking outside the box. You seem to always get the job done, and that is all that matters. 👍👍✌️
Jacob when do we get our nick story!?
I’ve been waiting for that too
I asked him a few times.be interesting to see what he did.if I had to guess I’d say he took rented ground from Jacob
I have been waiting to I think he's afraid to tell it
wire corn cribs don't give the rodents as much shelter as an enclosed bin. They come to eat, then go to their shelter.
Heck that would be nice for bedding the cattle and easy for hauling the manure out to the fields.

That bin setup you made has worked out great for ya 👍👍
But he admits it didn't work that great that's why he's changing it.
@ using the bin is a great way to keep it dry.
@@Hinesfarm-Indiana I agree he did accomplish that.
Them cobs and husk make good cattle bedding just like they are. You wouldn't have to grind them up
Grass head for your chopper would have been great for the cobs and shucks

It was very dry when picked.
Do you grind the cobs for livestock feed?
Would your big wood chipper work better?
Good stuff
Can we hear what happened between nick and you Jacob ?
Good video.
I was watching Rube Goldberg machines and this video popped into my feed ??
I said the phrase once in the video. Lol

What moisture were you able to get it to?
It's dry dry. I didn't test moisture.

Cheaper than propane drying
Nice video
Maybe use the elevator into the self propelled chopper and load the elevator with the skidloader for the cobs and husks into a wagon.
U need a cat in the bin and use your corn hook u used in the gravity box to get it fuller
Maybe less rodents than building a crib?
Jacob hot tea honey and vitamin C stay well.
I will in me browner,,
