As a Latina, I'm very disappointed in her. There is no need to try to steal the spotlight from black people. Not to mention that she continues to ignore black Latinx people too. Tbh I never liked her for that reason. She can't let black people shine without her being like "what about us?"

She is not taking the spotlight away from black women. She is trying to show that a black woman can be an idol or role model to ALL women. @@NicoleReign Being anti black can be as extreme and broad as being anti black people, it can be constantly putting down black people, or even just hating black features. You don't have to be exhibiting similarities to Hitler to be anti black. As important as it is to stand against and call out the extremes it also important to do the same for the micro-aggressions. Anti blackness is literally everywhere and so deeply engrained in our society that often times certain acts go unnoticed. Gina didn't even recognize what she did, so she needed to be called out bc that wasn't cool. Me personally I don't see being anti-black and being racist as the same thing, like I said it's so engrained in society that majority of people are anti black, including black people. This is stuff you have to unlearn, and it's often not as obvious as blatant racism so when I see anti-blackness I don't even get mad at the person it just makes me sad, then I get mad at society that allows white supremacy to flourish. However anti black still carries the same effects as straight up racism so I completely understand when people get mad at the person (Gina in this case). Anyway, you're not gonna fix a problem if you don't see one, that is to say that people going in on her right now is necessary bc she's been saying things that are anti black and hopefully she's been seeing this as a learning opportunity and doesn't get super defensive

@@youngnation9285 Actually I've done some research on this (I'm Black by the way) There is something called Colorism and it affects not only Black People but Dark Skin people in many countries. Actually colorism exist in Asia surprisingly where whitening cream is the #1 sold product there. But I digress I think OP was saying that Mexican Media focuses on fair skin European representation. Even in Brazil there was a period of Whitening Ideology that allowed immigration of white Europeans to get rid of the "Negro Problem" they literally called it that.
So like in America Latin America focused on Caucasian representation. Many families had stigmas of dating dark skin people or if they were dark skin wanted their children to marry lighter skin to lighten the gene pool.
Media plays into this because dark skin or Afro Latinx were predominantly shown as villians or servants. So from my research what she is saying comes from a place of personal experince for her.
It's never good to generalize one of my ex's was Mexican her father told her not to be with me because I'm the N word with the hard R and I hear him. He said he'd disown her. Now I don't think all Mexicans are racist based in that but there is history there.

There is so much wrong with what she did. Not only did she speak out of turn while the spot light was on another star, but she discredited Yara and the work that she specifically does for the black community. Yara is very pro black if you follow her closely. Out of respect, Gina should have stayed graceful and kept quiet. And then to contradict herself shortly after by placing the focal point on the Latinx community, was in very poor taste. She just comes off as unaware and for lack of better words, simple-minded.
