Yess! Preach! It was such a bad insult to your people and there’s such a sad story behind the word itself but people use it often nowadays without thinking. People use the word recklessly and it’s sad to me because the N word was such a hurtful history. Someone African American has told me they have adopted the word since it’s in there culture and they have history of the word. If anyone addressed me as chink knowing that it was an insult to our people, it would hurt me a lot.

I wonder what their ancestors would feel when they see them trying to own that word like nothing happened 🤣 HELL NO!!! The fact that they used it to promote their music in the rap industry with “bitches” on it and guns, and drugs... nice way to “own” a word.
I’m riding with Lonnie on this one !! Take out the N word and replace it with another insulting name of another nationality !! Let’s see how far that song goes !!
Luis Rodriguez Dude, anyone can say whatever they want. This is about whether you should. I personally think that no one should. But if you’re gonna make the argument of reclamation, you actually have to be Black for it to make any sense.
Yeah Buddy The problem is that those Black people are using the concept of linguistic reclamation, an idea that not all Black people agree with. But non-Black people saying the N-word isn’t reclamation, it’s just using the word as intended.

It is a word apart of the black community so if you ON MANY OCCASIONS attempt to separate yourself from the black culture then why do you feel the need to say the word?! Whether you are saying it in an intentionally disrespectful way or not, do not use a slur that is apart of a culture that you don’t want to be associated with.
Emphasis on “with their parents.” When they’re alone they don’t skip the cuss words. That tells you right there that’s it’s not okay to use it if you can’t even say it in front of your parents. 🤷🏾♀️

As a non-Black Latina woman who LOVES hip hop myself, I agree it's strange that ppl wanna say it so bad. I easily fill that gap of the N word in a song with a hum, a note, etc. I disagree with Loni here. When she said "replace the slur then", I like that Amanda called it out and said it's NOT being used as a slur in this musical context. Just in the same way Latinos have reclaimed "CHICANO"--which was a SLUR at one point, we now have reframed its meaning, and it's OUR word, not a slur. (For example: the entire Chicano/a movement, even the band El Chicano, etc.). I agree with Amanda's whole point 100%. Some things are not FOR you to use. That's all it is.
But the issue was she only claimed being “Afro Latina “ when she got push back for a multitude of other issues-- on top of it being understood her experience wouldn’t quite be like that of “Amara’s” experience in receiving the full brunt of systematic repercussions of black oppression. It’s giving “but my cousin is Black”. It’s easy to use the misdirection when u need a scapegoat for being held accountable. The radio doesn’t allow the “nword” on air play you have to get an uncensored version rather on the album or via streaming.
@@hildaamethyst528 when a non black person uses it they should understand that it's a slur almost automatically because they are not black! If they are REALLY a person who cares about black people and being an advocate then they shouldn't be using the word in the 1st place. Non black people thinking that it's ok for them to use it as a non slur is the problem! You're non black, so you're not welcome to use that word. It's a slur when u use it.
I tried having this conversation with a black acquaintance but it became impossible because he just wanted to get angry. I tried to keep the discussion simple and sane but he was getting to the point were I could tell he wanted to fight so I just dropped the topic and ended the friendship.
Destiny Wells it doesn’t necessarily have to be uncensored on the radio though; people still know what that blank space is supposed to be filled with. Even children and teenagers can easily make the connection.
The n word can be played on some stations, particularly some satellite radio stations. But I think Loni’s larger point was that the music industry at-large shouldn’t allow songs with the n-word to be released at all. She wasn’t exclusively referring to radio stations today especially since most people stream their music anyway. She was mainly referring to radios in a historical fashion bc radio stations don’t hold their same place and power in the industry as they once did.
I remember someone saying “we should cancel the word and all. And maybe refer to each other as Queens and Kings” like ‘how’s it going king’ ‘how you doing Queen’ I like that better.
viva laoldies when you refer to a girl as a dude it doesn’t mean you’re calling them a guy. It’s not to be taken literal. And yes I can very much picture a male saying what up king to a friend. Just like how someone says foo or homie. You’re negativity is just blocking it. If you don’t understand it then again, leave. Jesus isn’t a king. Because since you wanna get literal in this world the only king was king George. And he passed away few years back. But you know I’m not meaning it literally. You just wanna be a prick
NancyFancy360 Why would you consider weave white hair? It was originated in Africa by a AFRICAN WOMAN. I don’t consider weave white hair at all maybe you do but I don’t.
@NancyFancy360 she has used the word before. It's not cool for anyone to say. What if the black community used the slurs against others? Everyone would be on our case if we sang about WB or sand you know what.

I’m not black, and I’ve grown up surrounded by black culture and the n-word. However, I do not feel comfortable or right using that word because of its history and it’s current power. People want to act to like it no longer holds the power it used to, and then turn on the news and see systemic racism at play. There is no excuse, Non-black people need to start standing up for our black neighbors and learn more about these topics.

Kay You, you are correct. Amanda is very intelligent. I never said she wasn’t. What I said was she corrected Jeannie without reason. In this instance Jeannie was right and Amanda was wrong point blank period. The song she was singing was Ready or Not. In my opinion Amanda is rude to Jeannie and is uncalled for. It's an eerie topic when it comes to Latinos using the word. Some are given a pass and some aren't. I think it depends on the experience because being black does not mean you are dark skin. There are brown skin color people who identify as black which is why it's a grey area for Latinos
I honestly think it’s only a problem bc Gina Rodriguez has shown anti-black behavior towards the black community. If people hadn’t already been offended by her previous actions this wouldn’t be a topic.
Jese Rocchild there’s been multiple interviews she’s been in with black women. JJP Exactly... I genuinely feel that Gina Rodriguez is racist. It would be an entirely different thing if she just said the n-word accidentally on a livestream or something. Then, she would just be ignorant. But she actually took the time to film her singing a song with the n-word when she knows she’s had a history of people calling her racist. She’s not stupid. Everyone knows that black people have problems with non-black people repeating the n-word. It’s like she’s taunting black people or something. It’s so weird.

I agree with the big girl if you want to stop people from saying a word that would offend your culture then dont put on the air to have people say it and not treat it with respect. Trust me I'm seeing people say the N word all the time when a black music comes on and yet they dont get in trouble but yet when someone goes online then they get into trouble and that should not be right and I think everyone shouldn't even say it in the first place if your sensitive about the topic of the N word. Nobody wants to say it so bad. It’s in the lyrics and people like to rap/sing along to their favorite songs. It has nothing to do with wanting to say that word. U expect people to actually skip that word? U know how many times that word is used in these songs? It would be a full-time job doing that. Nobody in their right mind is gonna do that.
Willa Jones No she didn’t. People recite the lyrics just for that. Reciting the lyrics. Imagine having to skip that word everytime u recite the lyrics. That would be a full-time job. It would take up so much energy. It’s not realistic to demand that from people.

Veronica Deras-Roiz do you understand the roots of where that word came from? I’m black, I don’t really use the word myself, but for others that surround me that word is freeing for them to say. They feel as though they have taken it back and made it something for only them to relate to. Yeah but you can be Latina and black- Latina isn’t a race, it’s an umbrella term for people from Latin America, there are white and brown latinas like Gina Rodriquez and there are black latinas like Cardi- there are people of all races in every country and every culture. For example a quote that hits home to me from one of my fave songs is “where would Galway be without Ghana”, certainly America is a prime example of this because it’s such a melting pot of cultures and races. From what I understand Cardi B is black (light-skinned) if we’re talking race. And if we’re talking about ‘how light-skinned are you before you’re white’ then I think that’s getting into colourism and the conversation on ‘deciding who’s black’ which I legit think there’s no answer to cos EVERYBODY will have a different opinion on who “qualifies” as a certain race. I’m not an expert though and I want to be as respectful as I can on the issue, just sharing my opinion and perspective.
Maddie Athis that’s not the issue I know that, but a lot of Latinos do not claim black, and deny it except when it is beneficial for them. Those people should not be allowed to say the n word PERIOD.
When Loni said "you have this happening bc of the word being used in rap music" I'll say maybe it has a part in influencing nonblack ppl to use it however the other part of the influence is not every black person in the generation including mine and coming up care if white ppl or Hispanics use it. These kids are using it as an enduring term. I've not met a lot of black ppl my age or younger who cares as the older generations do. Ijs... If she was actually racist she wouldn’t have posted it. She knew the Afro Latina community already had a problem with her. She clearly wasn’t thinking when she posted it. She definitely shouldn’t have said it but there is no way she is racist.
What's not hard for you is hard for others. You can't just say it's easy or hard. And it's a song. You shouldn't have to censor yourself for one of the happiest things to do in life, which is singing. If it's there, expect it to be sang as it was meant to be.

Yess!

Do u see gays putting F word in songs ? Women putting sluts in songs ? But in rap they say alot of graphic things anyways lol I wouldn't even worry about the N word in front of other words which r used in rap
Most non-blacks that say it don’t use it as a slur either. So what’s the difference?

Destiny Wells exactly so idk what loni is talking about
It does play on the radio depending on time of day.
Destiny Wells it doesn’t necessarily have to be uncensored on the radio though; people still know what that blank space is supposed to be filled with. Even children and teenagers can easily make the connection.
In detroit they do and not just detroit but the whole metro Detroit
Juju said that on love and hip hop

viva laoldies when you refer to a girl as a dude it doesn’t mean you’re calling them a guy.
It’s not to be taken literal. And yes I can very much picture a male saying what up king to a friend. Just like how someone says foo or homie. You’re negativity is just blocking it. typicallydee Literally not the same thing AT ALL. You cant use a word in music, sing along to it...and then turn around and get offended when others enjoy the music.
Assault or harassment on someone is a different story. No one should get assaulted because of what they chose to wear on their bodies.
One is basically hypocrisy the other is victims need to hold them selves responsible so criminals dont have to.
"women shouldn’t wear such revealing clothes then they wouldn’t have problems". Except no one says that. But if there's is a woman in your life that you care about, and there is a pattern of violence towards women dressing a certain way, then you should inform her of that. No one says that actual criminals are not to blame and of course women are free to wear whatever they wish.
Also, it's just a word. Either everyone can say it, or no one can.
Yo wtf u really just said its equivalent to wat girls wear?
@@jamtex2 Actually you're wrong, a lot of women get bashed for wearing revealing clothes and then getting raped at the club. I guess you don't read comments or news but blaming women has been a huge part of the history. "Oh she shouldn't have worn that skirt if she didn't wan't people to look", "oh she should've wore a jacket", people always blame it on the women. You're sleep
@@cici39177 Honey, you can enjoy the music and still skip words that you have no rights to say. And who told you that getting assaulted of harassed is the only problems women face for wearing "revealing clothes"? Women get stares aswell which is uncomfortable and disrespectful just like in this case. So her point still stands.

Half this Real staff bumps to Cardi saying the N word and her parents look just like Gina’s. Let’s talk about that too 🤧
Isabel Chaparro i have been saying that the longest. Cardi B and 69 be saying the n word and nobody says anything.

@@rosasalinas2044 Exactly. People sing along to songs. Why have it in a song yet not understand why people sing along to ALL lyrics
Words are powerful, and when used as weapons, they can hurt. I try to talk as if it was being said to my mother, daughter, or others I love. I noticed I no longer had room for many words I used to flippantly use. Guess thats a part of growing up. One love.
This conversation will gone on forever. So I stopped caring bout it and letting it upset me and raised my blood pressure or ruin my day. if you say it, you say it. Mike Murphy exactly.. if it’s so touchy then why do all black rappers put it in their songs? Non black peoples gotta be hush hush because? It’s not like people sing it to be cruel
Mike Murphy 👏🏻👏🏻
Spoken like a non-black person who loves to say the N word. You know darn well non black people would not stop saying the N word even if rappers did. Heck, not even all black people say it to begin with. And white don't only say it when they're singing along to their favorite rap song because They still throw it around to our faces to show that they hate us and feel superior to us.
Mike Murphy black people can say the word it’s ours to use
Maiii ‘ Only white people can speak English since its our language to use
If she was just reciting a song why wasn't the whole song put in the clip why was only that 1 part put in the clip and then a nervous laughter afterwards try again.
But who does that?! Who is thinking about the ramifications of every single thing they do in a day. Clearly she wasn't. The N word is a huge part of American culture. Rap music is the number one selling genre of music. Black media is successful. Minorities share an experience of oppression. The N word is part of american pop culture. Quit using the word in music if you all can't fathom the thought of someone singing along to it. This is a stupid, empty conversation.
slayerette86m man she knew what she was doing because she only put that part in, meaning she emphasised her blatant disrespect. Minorities do not all share the same experience, its not an all lives matter thing, some are more accepted than others in different part of the world. I was raised outside the US and therefore was not immersed in the African American culture at that time.. since then in all the research I’ve done I still do not understand the logic in claiming it as an empowering term 🤨 I feel this makes it VERY confusing for other races to regard and address African Americans in a respectful manor.. keep in mind hip hop culture is for many non African Americans their only insight into our culture... why not rap about profound and uplifting achievements within the culture and history (Alexander Hamilton Style 😜)

@@GlobalK like I said she chose to sing that specific part vs the whole song for a reason
Willa Jones No she didn’t. People recite the lyrics just for that. Reciting the lyrics. Imagine having to skip that word everytime u recite the lyrics. That would be a full-time job. It would take up so much energy. It’s not realistic to demand that from people.
It wasn't "How Many Mics" Amanda, it was "Ready Or Not". Jeanie was right.

It's not a term of endearment it was used to belittle us and like loni said it was one of the last words some of our ancestors heard before they died! Nobody should be saying it black, white or Hispanic ect...
Tiffany Osborne, in South Africa, we have the K-word, and when apartheid was over, we completely erased that word from our vocabulary. No one of any race, even if you’re black, can and will say it. It’s the best thing to do. Why would you want to reclaim a disgusting word like that?
jinx xo
What is apartheid and the K word?
SupernaturalLove100, apartheid was lawful racism in South Africa, towards blacks, Indians and coloureds (a race group in SA that is black and white mixed). The K word is a derogatory word used against black people during apartheid.
I dont wanna hear that word anymore i dont get why the black community got so use to saying it. You never see anyone using slurs against their own, except for asians. Im not dumb i know why people think they flipped the word around, but i would have left the word in the past.

Veronica Deras-Roiz do you understand the roots of where that word came from? I’m black, I don’t really use the word myself, but for others that surround me that word is freeing for them to say.
When Loni said "you have this happening bc of the word being used in rap music"
I'll say maybe it has a part in influencing nonblack ppl to use it however the other part of the influence is not every black person in the generation including mine and coming up care if white ppl or Hispanics use it. These kids are using it as an enduring term. I've not met a lot of black ppl my age or younger who cares as the older generations do. Ijs...
I myself don't use it at all never have I am in the percent who feels it's negative past and that the enduring part of it doesn't belong to me and bc I have biracial children who I don't want to be called that or want them to use it either. Period!! But that's me.
