Great lens! I use it for 99.9% of all my vlogging videos. Great field of view and just works really well. Good 'all around' lens, especially when trying to capture your surroundings. No complaints.
Love this lens a ton! Wish I could find a higher quality version that has a faster aperture for low light situations. There are some worthy options, but nothing I can justify in my budget just yet
Awesome Job chad! You're really good at covering gear and talking about things I care about most. I don't get too deep into technical jargon, so hearing this in normal talk is really great.
I ordered this lense together with 50mm 1.8. For abt u$300 such a good deal ! And also ordered canon sl3., 55-250mm lense. Cant wait to use it all!!! 10-18 looks like an amazing lense !!!
Nice lens, but tricky to use. It has *severe* field curvature (dome-shaped 'focal plane') -- but also lots and lots of field depth to save the day. The trick comes down to focusing long enough so the corners are in focus (if it matters) and letting focus depth keep everything near the middle nice a sharp. This is not a subtle situation, and with outdoor photos, I am often focusing 50-100 feet away to hold the corners. The 18-55mm kit lens has the same field curvature problem -- but not enough focus depth to fix it -- except at its widest angle zoom.
Really enjoyed your lighting and color grading in this vid. I dont know if I'm getting 2 kit set or the Tokina but I am def getting a wide angle next lol. Great video!
Thanks a bunch for your comment :) It's a pretty great set in my opinion. I'm overall super happy with the wide angle though. It's very lightweight, has great auto focus, quiet, and produces some great imagery :) I would love to get one that's a little faster with an f2.8, but that gets pricey!
I currently own this lens and it's great. The negative is that I have to edit my photos perspective in Lightroom afterwards. It's a good lens. I just used it yesterday while I waking pictures in New York City where I live.
Nice video. Just got the lens to go together with my Sigma 18-35 F/1.8 ART. The Canon 10-18mm is just a blessing to my shoulder when vlogging because the Sigma was too heavy. Now, I only carry the Canon with me. LOL. Never minding the gap in quality because the Canon just makes my kit lighter.
This is a EFS lens which means it is for crop sensor cameras. If you put it on a crop body you will get 10-18 which is Equivalent to Full frame 17-28 mm.
Yes that’s why I mentioned it, in comparison to the full frame body. It’s an old mindset of mine where I still shoot 35 mm film from time to time and on full frame bodies. For me full frame is a true field of view
I use it on my SL2 when I do video clips it works for me ( I like it better than the 18-55 kit lens) I still use my 24-105 for everything else I think the 10-18 is still relevant. I also have a 7Dmkii I see and check out all the newer lighter cameras I still like what I got for now. I got lucky mine was a Christmas present.
Hi, I'm a fitness coach trying to start a VOD platform. I was told to buy a 12mm minimum as the room I want to film in is quite small (9,8ft x 9,5ft) and I will be setting the camera around 6,5ft away from me. My set up is going to stay the same and the room has a good lighting (windom + soft boxes) so those conditions will never change. My question is : is this lens appropriate for what I'm looking for? Or will there be a lot of distorsion? Thanks in advance, i really need the help!
With all due respect he just told you. This lense is more than perfect for you tube. If you search market place you’ll find good deals. I got two of these lenses a 50mm and a18 to 55mm for 250.00 bucks.
Price of this lens literally just dropped to about 200 bucks, and I'm thinking about picking it up now for vlogging purposes. Sigma 18-35 is waaay to heavy to vlog with and 24mm pancake is very good but a little tight.
I want suggestions. For wedding photos and group photo capturing ,will it be worthful to buy? I have canon 77D and 1500D with other lenses I have are 18-55 kit, 70-300 usm, 50-1.8 and 40-2.8.......I need valuable suggestions from you or anyone....
It can be a great lens for taking photos of wide spaces and the entire wedding party. Just be sure there is good lighting as the lens doesn’t have a lower aperture than f4 if I remember. I would use the 50mm and the 18-55 for the majority of photos
I understand this lens is not weather sealed. I live in Miami Florida and I'm plannimg to use this lens outdoors which is humid most of the times. Does any of you have had experience with humidity getting inside this lens ?
With today’s competitive market, having the ability to take photos and video is pretty crucial to many creators such as my intended audience. @@ChadEveryday Sorry, but you can't use a APS-C lens on a full-frame camera - it either won't work at all, or you will end up with a black frame around every photo
I always I thought you had the choice to turn off IBIS and OIS (or what Canon calls it) because if you're using a gimbal they can cause problems all working together. I thought on a gimbal turning those off was best? I've never owned a SLR gimbal so maybe I'm wrong. Just here looking for a cheaper wide angle for my Fujifilm XT-3! This does looks to be it🤔🤔🤔 (with the Fringer Ef-Fx Pro, of course).
This lens would be fantastic for event photography due to the wider view area. Maybe not the best in a darker environment though. For newborn photography, the 22mm 2.8 or a 50mm lens would be ideal
That's a tough call, would boil down to what all you would be using it for, either are great for certain circumstances. What would you be using it most for?
Or get the 24mm 2.8 pancake lens, that will work as a landscape and portrait lens. The 24mm is a crop frame camera - APS-C lens so it would be the equivalent of a 35 mm perspective, making it very versatile. Ideally, get this lens for landscapes and the 35 f2 for street photos and portraits.
Hey man, not sure if you’ll see this but if you do a reply would by greatly appreciated! Where were you at 2:31? It looks incredibly familiar. Thanks!!
There will always be a crop factor of 1.6x on a Canon APS-C body. The crop is due to the 2/3 sensor size as compared to a full frame sensor. The lens is designed for the camera specifically, but it doesn't eliminate the crop
Chadeveryday yes but the photo have a real 10-18mm, don’t need multiplícate 1.6... Canon built the 10-18mm lens for apps-c. I have a bad English sorry!
There is always a 1.6x multiplayer, even if you use APS-C lenses. The crop comes from within the camera due to the 2/3 sensor. So this lens is a 16-28mm range in a full frame comparison. If you look the lens up on B&H photo it will tell you that in the description of the lens.
I would say the sigma 17-50. You get 2.8 no matter the focal length and it’s a pretty nice little lens. A little more expensive than some of the canon lenses, but well worth it
Typically for these videos I set my shutter speed (always) to 1/50 or to double my frame rate (I most always use 24fps). Aperture I use my most wide open 2.8. ISO depends on how I have my main light and background lighting but typically I try to stay between 400-800 ISO. My light is 32wht and I usually run it at 100% power through a diffuser
I forgot to mention I also set the color temperature of the light and my camera to daylight. Sometime I might slightly warm it up in post for a personal preference
I have a Canon 80D and the Sigma 18-35 f1.8 Art lens. I love the Sigma lens, but it weighs a ton... Which makes it tough for vlogging. Thinking about the Canon 10-18 for that. IS would be awesome. The f/4.5-5.6 might be a deal breaker for me though. Not sure...
Do you know where I can get that canon bundle that you mentioned towards the end of this video? You stated that canon was giving a bundle for this lens and also a 50 mm prime lens for 350
For sure! B&H photo still has the deal! www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1277309-REG/canon_0570c010aa_portrait_travel_2_lens.html/?ap=y&gclid=Cj0KCQiAwc7jBRD8ARIsAKSUBHLxG6LA30d0FTrdVzlNczj97sXChEPgaA3Lgbw7-fTVJ85lAJsNrK8aAmQdEALw_wcB&lsft=BI%3A514&smp=Y
So when talking about crop factor, it’s a comparison to the 35 mm “standard” or in the case of digital, full frame. The 10-22 is a 10-22 but when you’re talking about field of view, you won’t be getting that max range as you would on a full frame or 35 mm lens. The crop comes from the camera not the lens
Typically when I’m setup like this I film about 1-2 feet away from the camera. A decent arms length typically. This is mostly due to the small space I have to work with
How wide should be my lens to record a dancing video? I want to capture a couple dancing without cropping their feet or heads. Anyone has any suggestion?
That’s true, but the crop happens in the camera sensor, not the lens. So as compared to a full frame equivalent, you won’t get the full field of Vision
@@ChadEveryday i'm aware of that, i just wanted to add that this lens was made especially for those of us with crop sensor DSLRs. I have a T7i, came across your video trying to see if i should get this and if it's good to use for like events OR just studio/street photography
ItsSummarhShyeanne oh yeah this lens is stellar for in studio and event photo/video. Absolutely loved it and was my go to lens for at least an entire year of shooting
+Lucidity the 24mm 2.8 pancake is great for photo, especially landscapes. The 10-18 isn’t bad at all, just don’t do close up portraits with it. Full body shots don’t look bad with it just so long as you keep a slight distance to avoid crazy distortions. And the 18-135 kit lens really isn’t a bad lens to consider either
@@ChadEveryday okay so I completed my list for a camera Body: Canon t7i Lens: Canon EF 50mm F1.8 normal lens Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 wide angle FotodioX 49mm adapter for macro Additional equipment: Camera bag Tripod SanDisk 128GB Extreme Pro Does this seem like a good list?
While the focal length is still the same, the crop factor is due to the censor. I only state the crop factor when providing examples to FF camera users. So yes when you shoot 10mm efs lens on a crop camera you are shooting 10mm but when compared to full frame it’s more equivalent to 16 mm

It's a great little lens, but I think I know one that would work better for you! I'll link you after work today
Yes! I need one
Does the auto focus work on a Canon 5d mark 2? Thanks
Thank you!!!!!!! Help a lot 4 me
Can anyone recommend me a cheap and good lens for photographing exterior and interior architectures and for portrait photography?
Will this fit on a Canon rebel t1i?
How far away from the camera were you while filming this?
Typically when I’m setup like this I film about 1-2 feet away from the camera. A decent arms length typically. This is mostly due to the small space I have to work with
Does this work for canon t7i 800d?
For sure! This will work on any crop censor Canon camera!
Will this lens fit in an older Canon T1i?
Yes
I can’t change mine from 5.0 :(
It's only got a maximum aperture of 4.5-5.6, it can't go any lower than that. But if it isn't even going down, then definitely home it back.
And you forgot to link his youtube channel I suppose. 😁
How wide should be my lens to record a dancing video? I want to capture a couple dancing without cropping their feet or heads. Anyone has any suggestion?
actually this lens is made for crop sensor DSLRs. it wont work on dslrs such as canon 5D
You forgot to link potatojet
Щиро дякую з України.
Thank you very much from Ukraine 🇺🇦 ❤
do you know any lenses that are wide angle and good for photography I won't be doing video much.
@@ChadEveryday okay so I completed my list for a camera
Body:
Canon t7i
Lens:
Canon EF 50mm F1.8 normal lens
Sigma 10-20mm f3.5 wide angle
FotodioX 49mm adapter for macro
Additional equipment:
Camera bag
Tripod
SanDisk 128GB Extreme Pro
Does this seem like a good list?
Isn't it an ef s so it's for a crop sensor so you don't need to do the maths
While the focal length is still the same, the crop factor is due to the censor. I only state the crop factor when providing examples to FF camera users. So yes when you shoot 10mm efs lens on a crop camera you are shooting 10mm but when compared to full frame it’s more equivalent to 16 mm
Oh ok thank you
