The Jamaican team set a new world record of 36.84s at the London 2012 Games.
Here we re-live the full race coverage as Jamaica's team of Carter, Frater, Blake and Bolt take the gold medal.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men. =========================================

Blake received the Baton at 19.1, gave it to bolt at 28.1. He ran 9 sec.
Bolt received at 28.1, finished at 36.84, he ran 100m at 8.74! 😳
That’s because in relay you don’t have to bend as low as you do in the beginning. The initial start takes that time

19.10+9+8.74=36.84
In reality First guys runs more than 100m with baton in his hand rest of them run less 100m with baton in their hand cause after first guy, rest of them start running even before getting the baton.

Yohan Blake is a phenomenal sprinter and a great teammate. His third leg run in the 4x100m relay at the 2012 London Olympics was one of the best I have ever seen. He ran like a beast and gave Usain Bolt a slight lead over the Americans, who had a strong team as well. Nobody beats Bolt 1 on 1. Insane stride. What a legend!
This is one of the races that truly shows how great Bolt was. Ryan Bailey who he ran against in that last leg has a personal best of 9.88 which in many World Champion/Olympic years would net him a medal, but he wasn't close to Bolts speed despite being in the top 0.01% of his sport. This race shows how much faster Bolt is than not just any 100m professional sprinter, but to a 100m FINALIST Olympic caliber sprinter.

same here, because of Yohan Blake also. in relay it's not just a team effort, but it's obvious too that some other individuals are exerting their very best for the team.
Ediots bolt and the American get the botton the same time he deserves credit too
That’s cause the bend is probably 80 meters where as bolt prob ran 110 meters
Blake received the Baton at 19.1, gave it to bolt at 28.1. He ran 9 sec.
Bolt received at 29.1, finished at 36.84, he ran 100m at 8.74! … Bolt is the winner
Blake will always be underated but for me, no one in history of sprinters has ever ran a bend that fast...thumbs up Yohane Blake
If you watch a lot of bolts solo runs most of the time he starts to slow down at the end because he cares about winning but not so much about breaking records
But in this race he does his best to the end because he knows his team ran their hardest and deserved to get the best results they could
But Bolt started slow, the receiving baton from Blake was not smooth enough. Bolt should start moving bit earlier
I don't agree with you fully here. Every athelete play the sport to break the record(automatically means winning) whether they accept it or not.
Record is what that get recognition, fame. Records is what motivate athletes to give their best, it is what make lengeds out of winners.
Also think about it if it was not about records then what's the point of WR, OR etc.
People have watched this video because it is about breaking the record.
In 2016 Rio Olympics, Bolt didn't break any record but the expectations were always there.
@@tawchaentertainment1488 Could also be that he was playing it safe, when he has confidence he is a lot faster than the American he's up against, it would be stupid to try a perfect exchange when a mediocre safe one will secure the win anyway.

december akins I agree...He ran sub 9 on that leg but wasn't mentioned...
Nick DeVita I don't know if it was so much that Bolt was pulling away as he had the baton first and and started his sprinting phases earlier. As you know there is not much you can do until you get the baton and if you start pushing to early the person passing it to you can't catch up. Baily obviously got beat but Baily held his own.. That Jamaican team is a Beast!!!
Back to Watch this & the Pace on Blake's Leg is something else, it's really scary. He was running soo fast that his legs were on Flash Mode
I wish I was a member of this Jamaica dream relay team! Historic!
Still gives me goosebumps every single time. Blake deserves a lot of credit
So much more credit.
Yes he does that's why they won he made up soooooooo much ground
Yohan blake reached the highest speed in history.
Is that a fact?
@@gustielteso Definitely best 3rd leg speed history and probably best speed in history
@@MaykiScofield Bolt still owns that with 27.78 mph which was achieved in his 9.58.
@@n8george blake was probably running at least 28 during that bend
@@sephyy.c5360 Nah the fastest recorded speeds will always be met on a straightaway. Curve running is slower because you have to exert lateral force. His leg was wild though
The world record has been taken apart....❤❤❤❤❤ GOOSEBUMPS
Yohan Blake maintaining his balance while bending like that at that pace is so incredible to watch
Blake's leg was easily the best, set up Bolt ftw
No he handed the baton to Usain before Gay handed his over
+Cleo Ruthan 4th to 1st you mean?
It's only because he had the corner?
They were already leading....
+MrKarlozz Nah they were behind the Americans and Blake got them in front of them with 100 meters to go
How many saw he didn't hand over the baton to the ref, and she started laughing?
Me ✋
They later ended up harassing him for it 😒
jerry berry why tho? What does a baton have to do with them winning the race 🤨
@@ajahwilliams3379 All teams were supposed to return the baton but the Jamaican team wanted to keep it as a souvenir from their victory.
Who wears such type of stupid dress for referee
I watched this live 11 years ago. Still gives chills whenever I watch this again.
Blake is a BEAST. When he flicks on the afterburners, it's a beautiful thing to behold.
