The Bahamas team wins the 4x400m relay event, beating USA to take the gold medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games (10 August).
With Bahamas taking gold and USA taking Silver, the bronze medal went to the team from Trinidad & Tobago.
Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

I'm actually happy for Chris Brown of Bahamas...he's been running the 400 for years and always comes up short, but he finally got his Gold medal.. He's been a strong 400m guy for years
I woke up chris breezy
@@VicioRay lol
Always comes 4th fr! Just misses the podium every time
man.. its gotta be every runners dream to run in front of a crowd like that
It’s amazing!!
Not gonna lie, it’s 50/50 for me. All the yelling can psych me out, but sometimes it pumps me up.
London 2012 was fantastic tournament
It’s my dream to run faster than ever it’s my nightmare to run in front of crowds😆
Just the crowd roaring and me remembering my little island would gas me up. God I'd be absolutely tearing in down that track. I wouldn't be intimidated because I don't not saying I'd win but boy I'd me moving them legs for a medal
As someone who's been running the 400m for years now i can tell you that he lost the race at 6:38.. when he glanced behind him he started to doubt himself
Merk Mode he was allready overexauhsted so he was like ohh well
Yep, and he tightened up because of it. Contrast that with the runner behind him.
Or wanted to see his position to box him out...
@@zorp7934 He didn't attempt to box him out.
that is also very true. The 400 and 4X400 are both mind games which means that it's all mental when it comes down to the last 200 or 100 meters
Bahamians are some of the nicest people you could ever meet
i lived there for 6 years from 2002-2008 on a construction contract doing floor & wall tiles for new developments
❤❤❤❤
peace and love
I'm Jamaican. We weren''t even in this race, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. I loved watching the mental strength of the Bahamian athlete who ran his race despite seeing someone else in front of him. He did not panic in the face of only possible (not certain) defeat, and so he prevailed for his team. It was a joy to watch, and I take great inspiration from it. I will not give up on any cause before it really is over. Hopefully, at that time, at the end, I will be collecting the green leaves, just as this team has done.
+Cinnamon Swann Why weren't you guys in it? i forgot
+Michael Martinez Purely because they didn't qualify. They are getting stronger tho
+squareboy33 I believe the Jamaicans DNF in the heat due to an athlete pulling up with an injury.
+Cinnamon Swann I am Team Jamaica everyday. However, during this race, no one supported this Bahamian team more than me. This victory was one of my most memorable moments of those Games. Besides, I have been a fan of Chris Brown for ages.
+Cinnamon Swann hello fellow Jamaican
I lost my voice screaming the Bahamas home, and I'm sure many others all over the world did the same. UK crowds were amazing in 2012 - What an atmosphere.
🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸 THE GOLDEN GIRLS SWEETIE 2000 WE WON GOLD
Straw hats off to the Bahamas. The U.S. men in the 4 x 400 are usually the safest bet in track & field. I believe that this was the Bahamas' only medal in London. Quality over quantity
Indeed, a very respectable performance
@@nick5422 yup.... That's beautiful....
Hey Keith Smith have a look at 2017 and 2019 world championships and give me your opinion

Everytime i watch this race i cry even 10years later am a proud bahamian
It's impossible not to be touched with national pride seeing our country succeed in such a gigantic arena. .242 to the world!!🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸
Bahamas' population is only 321k
thats correct .. we punch above our weight lol

ranhill we're happy with our gold from Shaune and we appreciate and respect her.😗💖
Cheers to the Bahamas, they ran a great race. I ran into the Bahamas team in the Heathrow Airport the day after the closing ceremonies, they stood in the terminal for an hour letting anyone who wanted to, to take a picture with them. Class guys.

6:29 you can see Renaud Lavillenie wining the gold medal of pole vault :)
Everytime I watch this It makes me PROUD to call myself a BAHAMIAN.
Harbour Island, Bahamas.
Mad respect to the dude with the prosthetics
Such a shame his personal life took a dark turn shortly after this Olympics
Oh you must not know 😭 he mirdered his wife
Some would say he has a killer attitude!
Not a bad job announcing, except it was a BIG gaffe not to even mention Tony McQuay by name (during the race), who ran the fastest split of any runner in this race (43.41) and put the Americans in the lead on the third leg.
Yes. McQuay was a man among boys in this race. He made that backstretch look so effortless.
@@thomasmckenzie4584 Few saw that.
Demetrius Pinder ran 43.3. It’s in the record books. Something like 9th fastest ever.
USA lost get over it.
@@robespie2517 You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT! I stand corrected, thank you! As of this comment, Pinder's is the 7th fastest split all-time, and McQuay's is 10th fastest!
The London olympics were, for me, the absolute pinnacle of athletics. Simply superb, from start to finish.
I've been in the position Angelo has been in, being anchor in the 4x400 and having someone right on your tail in the last 100m. It's terrifying

Congratulations, Bahamas. Great race! Happy for you. (American here)
6:39 I will beat you I will beat you I will beat you I will beat you I will beat you I will beat you I will beat you
Every now and then I watch this video for motivation. Let’s go Bahamas! 🇧🇸You still have much to accomplish.
Bahamas brave run boys. Love you Bahama. Support from India.
I was screaming and so happy for the Bahamas winning this gold medal and Trinidad for the Bronze. Caribbean unity.
It is great that Chris Brown 🇧🇸🇧🇸❤ was able to close this chapter of his career with an Olympic gold.
You have to give the anchor leg for the Bahamas the ultimate credit, that was a Rundown!!
As a PROUD Bahamian; I just watched this race again and the common thing is - no matter who you are pulling for at the beginning - EVERYONE screams for the one out front. Sports is a beautiful way of bringing everyone together!
Every time I watch this video I'm overwhelmed that our little "dot of a country" on the worlds map is shining GOLDEN at such an epic moment in history! The best is yet to come BAHAMAS! Watch us in BRAZIL 2016!
USA won in 2016 LOL
Congratulations to my home country Trinidad & Tobago winning the bronze medal. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Not bad for a Nation of 350,000 people! Go Bahamas! Sports power!
Thank you Bahamas for providing the perfect training video .Baton exchange , technique and execution were all on point.Way to go 'FIREMAN' and crew🌎
Bahamas got that gold!!! One of the smallest nations in the world to come up big with a win against the whole world.🇧🇸🇧🇸🇧🇸
6:43 what a moment. The ROAR and the commentary. Love it so much.
The day I was watching this race I jumped, screamed and cried 💕 mad love for them. #242 #GoldenKnights salute 🙌 #myBahamas🌴
We just got bronze. We are still great
I am a Bahamian and I am proud to be one, let me speak for myself, I do not hate American because I have family and friends who are American plus my daughter father is an American, when it comes to Sports they feel they should win EVERYTHING!!!!!!!, there is a season for everyone to shine, God giveth and he taketh away, give credit where credit is due, your going to win some and loose some that's a part of life history.
+kelsene kelly And don't forget the Jamaicans - the team is getting stronger and will be coming.
You can say that again. Americans will put this psychological sentiment that winning at every sport is their royal birthright. When another is superior than them at a single sport, like Jamaica's sprinting dominance for example, Americans will make it seem that their failure to win is a problem and they'll spill it across the media so that everyone knows it.
+Kwame Amparbeng I guess you hate Americans also. the hate is so real, but we are used to it
+smooth nubian no hatred. just the truth.
Kwame Amparbeng its hatred. we get it from everyone
i was so happy for the Bahamas Caribbean country to the World
One of the greatest track n field relays ever . Every Bahamian athlete ran a perfect leg. Any true track fan could have seen this race was won from the first leg.Thank you Chris(the fireman)Brown n crew. love the final 200 m of the last leg....Ramon Miller showed the world perfect technique form n execution . They probably won't admit, but every t and f coach is using this video as a training clip.
6:40 "oh shiet, i'm in trouble now"
hahahaha good one !
I'm an American, and I was hoping we would win. So it was sad to see the US lose. However, I have to admit that the Bahamian team ran an amazing race! The battle between the USA and the Bahamas made the race really exciting, even though the USA did lose. I have to say that at full strength, the Bahamas and the USA would have an epic battle. Congratulations Bahamas! The USA wants a rematch in Rio!
Most people expected the US to win that race, including myself, as they have been since 1972.
The excitement of watching our countries go head-to-head was palpable.
We will see you in Rio ;)
242 man.
❤ Congratulations from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹
After everyone sees this video they comment 'proud to be Bahamian' lol

It’s as if I’m watching this for the first time! Amazing !!!!!! Proud Bahamian! 🇧🇸🇧🇸 that’s what you call heart straight to the finish
The look on Angelo Taylor's face while running around the final curve where he looked to the side said it all - he knew he was going to get beat
He shouldn’t have looked. 👀
He looked because he was spent and knew he was in trouble. As a 400m runner myself when you run that last bend you know already if you have what it takes that day to sprint to the finish line or if you’ll fade
@@YoungLadyInRedlol you never ran the 400 did you
This is one of my favorite races of all time. Also, Bahamas are awesome!
We, the Americans, did not have our strongest 400 runners in this event due to injuries, but still huge props to the Bahamas, it sucks to lose but I'm content with the Bahamas taking it, they ran an excellent race and they beat us fair and square. Hats off
No excuses #242 #BahamasAllDay
DJ Dirty Jerz, Please don't blame it on the injury of the American athlete, American find every avenue to blame or find a excuse to why they did not win the race, a win is a win, plain and simple.
kelsene kelly 242 all day
kelsene kelly The best team or( men ) win 90% of the time, so the Bahamas was this time!
DJ Dirty Jerz The anchor man ran out of gas that's all.
Hello i am a a bahamian and i think that each team did great including the Bahamas did an awesome job
So proud of the Bahamas 2008 silver 2012 hold it was worth the wait.
I am Bahamian and I am SOOO Proud of my Bahamian boys they worked hard and waited very longgg for this medal AND its not luck cause we Bahamians don't believe in that its called BLESSED AND HIGHLY FAVOR by God ALMIGHTY !
Fantastic last leg and an awesome run. Well done Bahamas!
I remember this race so clearly. As a brit obvs wanted GB to do well. But I was cheering Bahamas on so loudly 😅 They did amazing and raced as a team and not individuals
The Bahamas has some great 400m runners
Yes and now we have the best individual male and female 400m runners in the world, shaunae miller uibo and Steven Gardiner
@@kyraweech9117 if they wanted to they could dominate the mixed relay gardener miller uibo gaithers etc
I saw the balance of running gesture of Bahamas from the first person, and I could guess instantly that this team would win.

as an American...I can say, this race was awesome!!!! I was on the edge of my seat!!
Behind Greg, Mo, Jess & Rudisha - this is my moment of the whole games! The utter FEAR on Taylor's face at 110m to go was hilarious, he knew he had nothing left & was terrified! Brilliant!
Trinidad anchor leg runner, condolences, RIP.
Just look at their faces at 6:38 one was too well determined while the other feared for his life
Because he knew he didn’t have it

nothing greater than seeing the US "ALMOST" win a gold and then being ripped apart at the last 3 seconds :D - God Bless Bahamas

This is what sport is all about. London is history which all Bahamians will celebrate for years to come, just like we celebrated Seville and Sydney. This is a different season but we cannot be counted out in Moscow as many counted us out in Sydney for the women's 4x100m!

Nat Mackey fa real doh?
@@smoothnubian its not our only race do ya research
Absolutely crazy how fast these runners are. Sub 45 seconds for 400m ~ 11 seconds per 100 metres.
College 400m runner here: Because of momentum it's easier to run a sub 45 by running the first 200 faster than the second. None of them ran 11 sec 100s all the way through, rather that the speed of the first 200 made up for their second 200.
