    The Bahamas team wins the 4x400m relay event, beating USA to take the gold medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games (10 August).
    With Bahamas taking gold and USA taking Silver, the bronze medal went to the team from Trinidad & Tobago.
    Since 1896, athletics has been on the programme of each edition of the Games of the Olympiad. Its presence on the Games programme has allowed its popularity to increase across the world. This popularity was also strengthened by the creation of the IAAF in 1912. Women's events appeared for the first time at the 1928 Olympic Games in Amsterdam, while the men's programme was standardised as of the 1932 Games in Los Angeles. Although at the beginning women were authorised to participate in only some events, today their programme is almost identical to that of the men.

    I'm Jamaican. We weren''t even in this race, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. I loved watching the mental strength of the Bahamian athlete who ran his race despite seeing someone else in front of him. He did not panic in the face of only possible (not certain) defeat, and so he prevailed for his team. It was a joy to watch, and I take great inspiration from it. I will not give up on any cause before it really is over. Hopefully, at that time, at the end, I will be collecting the green leaves, just as this team has done.

      You can say that again. Americans will put this psychological sentiment that winning at every sport is their royal birthright. When another is superior than them at a single sport, like Jamaica's sprinting dominance for example, Americans will make it seem that their failure to win is a problem and they'll spill it across the media so that everyone knows it.

    This is what sport is all about. London is history which all Bahamians will celebrate for years to come, just like we celebrated Seville and Sydney. This is a different season but we cannot be counted out in Moscow as many counted us out in Sydney for the women's 4x100m!

    Absolutely crazy how fast these runners are. Sub 45 seconds for 400m ~ 11 seconds per 100 metres.

    • @CookieblobRS
      @CookieblobRS 8 лет назад +5

      College 400m runner here: Because of momentum it's easier to run a sub 45 by running the first 200 faster than the second. None of them ran 11 sec 100s all the way through, rather that the speed of the first 200 made up for their second 200.
