I'll enjoy watching this build come together. I purchased only a 41 gallon waterbox and its a work in progress. Its been dry several months as I research and build a mixing station. Im in no hurry and am taking things slowly. I should finally be putting water in it in a few weeks and will let it cycle for a month or two. Can't wait to put a few fish in it and then frags in 4 months or so
Gorgeous and I am super jelly. I would like to offer a tip. That light for the refugium is going to cause coralline algae to grow on our skimmer. It did on my sump. I added another divider for the light to prevent it from shinning light in the areas of the tank that you dont want things to grow......SUPER SEXY SETUP. I love this tank, stand, and sump....I agree on the filter pad, its true it will attract detritus but its also an easy clean with a ton of positive reasons why to have it on there.
Hey mate, amateur reefer here from Sydney. Just stumbled on your channel and this video! I'm so inspired! Amazing setup!! Will check out your other vids and follow your journey! 👍🏻👍🏻
Wow, that is one epic sump and actually looks like it cost more than what you paid. Something as custom and well designed as that will all add to the wow factor of your dream tank. Well done Sam and looking forward to the next stages.
Parkers Reef would love to keep in touch, my first Batch of fish dead due to a parasite on the tank. Now doing the 72 days treatment starts for the tank. Cheers
Super impressed. The air flow through the bio media is interesting, basically a ‘reverse trickle filter’ lol. It will at the very least be good for oxygenation.
That is a gorgeous sump On your RODI system add a delay relay and a second solenoid valve so when your sump reservoir calls for more water the system will send the first bit of waters to the drain instead of the sump reservoir. My solenoid for this bypass is located prior to the DI resin to not waster resin on the TDS creep water.

That is a Beauty ! Ya it's expensive but over a short time that cost won't even be a thing anymore. Planning/building takes time but well worth it. We can see that in your system. Great job ! Pro tip: on any media reactors outputs place a tee and two valves so you can purge initial new media start up tank water rinse into a waste bucket and not into your tank. Ya know carbon dust etc. When the water is running clean then direct it back into system. I'm building my dream system right now too: 48"x 32"x 20" tall Lagoon(CA earthquake's). 37 years reefing, still learning. I'm running two L1's witch are way more than I need and so :Tip #2 closed loops into sump w/valves for both those adjustable return pumps so they can stretch their legs.Churning water is great for aeration. Bla Bla Sorry. CA USA
Looks amazing, well done mate and very well thought out! With the elevated TDS from your RODI at start-up, have you considered using a flush solenoid valve and delay timer relay? When your RODI fill solenoid comes on, use that signal to trigger the delay timer relay to turn on, then it will automatically turn off again after a user-defined period of time. The flush solenoid valve connects to the RODI waste line, basically replacing the manual flush valve, and has a small inbuilt adjustable valve (via a plastic Phillips head screw) so that when closed it still lets a small amount of water through as the normal waste. When energised it opens up to flush the RO membrane. The delay timer relay modules and flush valves are both available on eBay / Aliexpress. Just a suggestion to eliminate that issue :)
Was thinking the same thing, if you wanted a fairly cheap turn key solution you could something like the smart buddy. ruclips.net/video/T9Ie1tPFhAk/видео.html it has a pressure boost function as well, not sure if they are sold in Australia but maybe something to have a look at

WOW WOW WOW... Awesome sump.. Honestly thought it would have been more than 4K given the design phase as well.. so so pretty and shiny.. Almost a shame to fill it with salt water and get it all gunked up.. You will spend the next 20 years trying to keep it looking as clean as Andy"s sumps at Fishworld LOL
Everytime I walk in there Im thinking OMG. Did these guys sleep last night? Its like they spend every night cleaning all night.. But I guess thats not true cause they found time to start a family LOL Congrats to them! 😊
That looks great. Instead of using sponge or filter floss in the narrow section to trap any rogue chaeto, have a look at Japanese matting. It’s used in pond filters, isn’t overly fine so won’t clog, and it’s quite rigid, so is really easy to take outside and hose clean. I used it in my freshwater sump to contain K1 media, and it worked really well.
Beautiful sump and great job thinking out placement of all your hardware. The only concern that I have is in the racetrack before the filter roller. I can see detritus building up in it overtime so hopefully it is relatively easy to be able to suck it clean. I have always seen with the roller filter the water going strait into the chamber that the roller mat is in. Other than that I am jealous of your set up and wish it was mine.
The sump looks tall. Will you be able to take out the filter roller once its in the stand? Looks like you have just enough room to remove the skimmer cup. I love your refugium light and cover
Love it! You might figure out a way to create a proper seal for the media chamber lid. Maybe some type of rubber strips. That salt is gonna find its way out of there.

That is an incredible setup. Probably more money than my whole 40 breeder reef setup that I'm working on.
Yeah that is fair, I've been saving for this for the good part of a decade :D
