I mentioned the strength of the ammonia source in Reef Revolution Pro Cycle B incorrectly. It's actually 2 drops to raise ammonia in 100l of salt water by 0.05ppm. Therefore, to raise 1500 litres up to 0.5ppm of ammonia, I dosed 300 drops (15ml)
Can't wait for the scape and the livestock 🤩🤩. It's amazing the amount of thought you put into this built. I wish I had a friend like you while getting into the hobby, coz I always jump in head first 🤣.
The vlog was great 👍 18mins just flew by, couldn’t believe how quick it went, really enjoyed the update Sam. 👍 Well done 👍 on the 10k subs, this dream build has really upped the subs, onwards and upwards from here on in mate, you deserve it, you’re putting the time and effort in, and people are taking notice. 👍🏴
The overflow pipes will get even quieter. Took about 5-6 weeks before it got coated with the el naturale slim and then you'll be laughing at how silent it is! Looking great Sam can't wait to see the rest of the build
Sam... mate I’m so envious of your new tank! It really is a dream build. Everything is just schmick! I’m loving your update videos and attention to detail. Looking forward seeing more!
You bring a whole new meaning to covering all the bases!!! Love it and thank you again for sharing your knowledge. I’m going to use a lot of what you shared.
Great work room under your aquarium Parker! I am looking forward to its developing into something beautiful. One thing to mention or question actually: did you watch MACNA's 2019 dr. Tim's Tim Hovanec presentation on bacteria on BRS TV? A lot of information. For cycling the haplotrophic bacteria (I might have the name wrong) which are the best nitrifying bacteria, it is recommended to turn off all lights, lower salinity as they multiply much faster this way while gradually raising salinity over the first 5-10 days if I'm right. When salinity gets higher the heterotrophic bacteria might outcompete the other bacteria. I believe water temperature is also an issue. The first bacteria then multiply faster. Later on you can add the lights. During cycling -to avoid nuisance algae- you don't want light because that's what keeps them growing and growing. Unfortunately this news for me came too late because I had then already cycled my new small tank.
I love everything you’ve done too it apart from where the external plumbing is at the back of aquarium, they are a nightmare if they leak especially at the wall end, but that said the thought you’ve put in too it and the detail is amazing, very envious, can’t wait to see some life in it, what dosing/monitoring are you going with ?? Or is it too secret for another episode :)
Looks awesome! I use that gae media also and it's doing a good job.. one thing is that lid on ya chiller box. If you cut that out too and put it in you may not be able to open the thing.. as it will hit the pipe can get some cabinet hinges and then it will work
Hey Alan, of those I've only tried dr tims. It's good stuff, but nothing beats good old time. Hence why I went for a bit of a hybrid approach on my system. A few sources of bacteria supplementation, some time and some seeded media from another system. Worked a treat!
@@ParkersReef my biggest concern is I’m hearing people using Turbo start saying that their tanks cycled within a week and something like that seems a bit off (even if I’m an eager new reefer, it still feels a bit off to me). I’d rather know i have good and the correct bacteria than rushing. Is that weird?
That’s pretty much heavy load of bio media. I thought you’ll be cycling with Dr.Tim’s one and only. Keeping lights on during cycling doesn’t it create unwanted algae? + I’m waiting for your rocks but I guessed right “CaribSea rocks” I build my scape yesterday with same. Good work 😉
I might add some dr Tim’s too, essentially want a long natural cycle that is bolstered by some product :) I also don’t mind a little algae growing now, I’m a believer of it adding the the natural diversity :)
Hey Sam quick question do you know if reef revolution is available in the United States? I looked and can’t find any reef revolution at all here. Idk if you have any connections that could ship to Texas?
Ever think about where diatoms come from in a brand new tank. New tank, substrate, dry rock, and water and every time diatoms appears. How do they get in there?
Hey Sam, excellent video once again. Do you mind me asking where you got the GAE balls from and also whether you think these need replacing periodically? I read somewhere recently it said you should.
Got them from deer park aquarium, my local. I don’t believe they need to be replaced every 6 months that another commenter has suggested, but I’d inspect them every 12-18 months to ensure they are not breaking down
I'm currently building a 530 gallon ish reef system and I am looking for an submersible return pump, will A200 provide enough flow for a tank of that size or should I consider the A400?
@@ParkersReef I'm looking for atleast a 4X turn over. The length of my plumbing will be similar to yours so I was wondering what's your turn over rate. Don't take this the wrong way this is a student asking the teacher a question. The skimmer is on doesn't that defeat the purpose of what you're trying to do with the biological dosing? Like example Dr Tim's videos say to turn off your skimmers and take out your filters for 24 hours or 48 hours.
sorry it took me so long to find this comment, it was held up in my "to review" section with all the spammers LOL That is a great question, whilst my skimmer is running, it isn't pulling anything out. Keeping the water oxygenated is important too (in my opinion). Plus the skimmer shouldn't remove bacteria, it should remove proteins, but I would still recommend turning it down a little to ensure you don't skim out your expensive bacteria-in-a-bottle solution!

From silica in the sand I believe?
Would the chiller struggle outside on hot days? You'd assume you'd need a cold air source to keep it cool?
Some concept as split system air conditioning. They compress a gas that chills, by product is hot air that you want away from the tank :)
Hi Sam I have used the Reef Revolution two days ago and dosing ammonia two drops a day to feed and testing should I turn my skimmer back on now ?
You can likely stop dosing ammonia now. I’d pop the skimmer on, but de-tune it so it doesn’t remove anything 👍🏻
