Oh, and BJ NAILED IT, when he described ZZ Top's sound. He is 💯 percent CORRECT. Nobody sounds like them. Nobody. Period. You're the MAN, BJ!!!🥳💣💥👊
It's all about that Texas groove, bay bay!
Absolutely! BJ nailed it!
BJ .... spot on , ZZ Top one of a kind
I love the 70s and very early ZZ best. This whole Deguello album rocks.
Tube snake boogie is hilarious
@@chemquests it is. They would love that!
@@chemquests Manic Mechanic and I Thank You are off that album too. Dust My Broom, too. The whole album is fire.
Esther Be The One, my favorite ZZ Top song
@@Tuesdays_Gone I remember first hearing I Thank You as a kid & it made me giggle. Can’t help that it still does a little
Really good comments about ZZ Top carving out their own niche. They brought a legitimate blues influence to rock music, with drums bass and killer guitar. PLUS they did it with a sense of humor in their songs. Just great.
Rock came from blues. Clapton was all about the blues.
Seriously, this song is cooler than school. Y'all probably didn't notice, grooving along to the song, but some of the drum fills are simply delicious. I'm with Asia on the sunglasses debate, though. I lose them fucking things so often....
I always loved the snare drum during the solo.
with Frank Beard it's all about the triplets and ghost notes. very underrated drummer.
exactly,i'd buy 5 pair at a time because i'd sit on them or lose them all the time.
My first and only pair of really nice sunglasses was a $160 pair of Costa Del Mar. I managed to keep them in good shape and where I could find them for eight years - I honestly impressed myself. Then one January I wore them into the snows of Mount Hood in Oregon, and they liked it there and stayed. Somebody probably got themselves a nice pair of free shades after the spring thaw, LOL.
Umbrellas and sunglasses...I'm always losing them!
In the late 90s my wife and I went to a ZZ Top concert in Saint Louis . With every ticket sold , they gave use a pair of one or two dollar swapmeet shades . It was an outside concert , and there were 52,000 people in the crowd . We saw ZZ Top , and Lynyrd Skynyrd . A concert to remember , for damn sure .
I saw that tour but no sun glasses promo in Worcester, MA but one Hell of a great double bill!
Billy is known as the king of tone. Unmistakable sound.
The Rev Willie G
Absolutely, and his groove, feel and dynamics are impeccable. He seems to be rather underrated, except maybe by other guitar players. I don't usually see him on lists of guitar greats, but in my opinion he belongs at least on every top 20 list.
He also puts the lie to the assertion that you need thicker gauge strings to get good tone. Thanks to Billy I switched to 8s, and if I hadn't I probably wouldn't be able to play anymore because of physical issues.
Spent a week with these guys. Shooting, fishing and camping... I was like 11... 1982ish... NO CLUE WHO THEY WERE! Best friend's dad's friends he grew up with.
Wow!!! Jealous!!! The best bluesy/rock band ever
That is really cool!
That's Frikin cool man!!!
Probably fishing on lake fork
70's era ZZ Top inhabits the funky space between John Lee Hooker and Lynyrd Skynyrd. "Cheap Sunglasses" defined a street attitude towards fashion that still resonates today. It's like hangover medicine for the howl in "Tush", the slide guitar that drives "Just Got Paid", or the break in "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide" when it catches you off guard. ZZ Top's cover of the Sam & Dave classic "I Thank You" is another classic, hard and gritty with one of the meanest guitar tones ever recorded. And "Heard It on the X" tells the story of listening to rock-n-roll, blues, and other "forbidden" music during the segregated 50's on border radio stations broadcast out of Mexico at 50,000+ watts so that their signals reached well over a hundred miles across the border...
“Heard it On The X” is my all time favorite ZZ jam.. love the riffs and really love the history knowing it’s the solid truth from back when my older siblings were hanging with Leon Russell and The Street People, as people could pick up that station for miles around.
The late great Bobby Keyes, who was the killer sax player for The Stones and Keith’s party pal has talked about it too, as well as Steve Miller and Janis Joplin.
And Velcro Fly.... the beat in hell?
"She had a West Coast Strut as sweet as molasses". I love doing this song with my Bands over the last 20 years! My Bass Players loved it!
They were so fun in concert. And that bluesy sound
Saw ZZ Top twice on the Terminator Tour, and "Cheap Sunglasses" was a highlight of each show. Extra cool lights and the boys were doing one of their patented dance routines. Great fun.
They simply bring it. A groove, a mood, ZZ stands alone as a vibe!!!
Deguello was the 6th album that ZZ Top did came out in November 1979. "Cheap Sunglasses" was on this album. This is also the album that Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill first showed up with their Long Beards. They have 4 gold albums, 3 platinum, 2 multiple platinum and 1 Diamond album. In which case "Eliminator" is the Diamond Album in 1983. They have 15 albums released in all. RIP Dusty Hill born in Dallas TX. 19 May 1949 to 28 July 2021. Thank You Asia and BJ for the reaction video.
When they play this song at their concerts, the entire audience puts on their sunglasses. Pretty badass
I have been fortunate to have seen “That Little Ol’ Band From Texas” Live 4 times. I recorded the last show (Full HD) before Dusty passed away. Always an awesome show. You must see many other tunes from them including “Rough Boy” (official video)…. “Same three guys, same three cords, for five decades” - Billy Gibbons at last show.
Saw ZZ with 38 Special years ago, was the Eliminator tour. One of thier best!!! Thanks guy's!!!😃🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Very nice breakdown BJ. Fact. When asked who his favorite guitarist was Jimi Hendrix replied Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top.
Y'all need to check out another song off the same album Dequello, "I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide". Another great song with that groove. Thx.
I concur.
And Tube Steak boogie
They were all about hitting a different gear for the end of the song at that time. The fadeout groove on that song is naaasty.
Sometimes if you just appreciate the smoothness of the bass. It laid down that road for Billy to travel down. Live, it would go straight through your chest!
Thank you.
Asia & BJ, their "Gimmie All Your Lovin' " and "Legs" are next for you!!
Soul, funky groove for sure. I forgot how funky ZZ Top could get! Get down with your bad self!!!
70's ZZ Top was all about getting your groove on- check out Brown Sugar or anything off their debut album!
Definitely my favorite band of all time! I've seen them in concert 3 times. The first time was in 83, their Eliminator tour, Jeff Healey opened for them. Absolutely the best concert i was ever blessed enough to witness! I wish I had had more opportunities to see them, both ZZ-TOP and Jeff Healey. Life is way too short. Side note, I buy sunglasses at the dollar store now too, because they have decent sunglasses, and I always break or lose them no matter how much I've paid for them.
his 1959 gibson les paul is known as "pearly" Billy said when he played it for the first time he heard the pearly gates open of heaven, icon ,icon, icon,,,,,, great groove,,,peace guys
This is off Deguello my fav ZZ album … check out” I am bad I am nation wide “
Please react to "Fool For Your Stockings "; " Blue Jean Blues "; " I Thank You ". These are CLASSIC ZZ Top songs. All Blues . RIP DUSTY HILL. You will NEVER be replaced. EVER. 💔🤠🕊
Frank Beard is one of the best drummers on the planet, and his groove is the Texas Shuffle, which is a real thing, and Frank is the king.
Cheap Sunglasses has always been one of my favorites because it seems like a jam session, filled out with some fun lyrics. But what it also does is really showcase Frank's skill; this song has some great drumming.
"It's a whole different level of funk, it stank,". I'm dead. Great reaction you guys, I feel the same way about ZZ Top. They just have such a unique sound, and it's works for them.
Early ZZ Top is my favourite and this song is always on my ZZ Top playlist. Great reaction.
When guitarist Billy Gibbons was just a young pup his early band opened for Jimi Hendrix - Hendrix was asked in an interview who his favorite guitar player was...you guessed it - he said Billy Gibbons. Hendrix also commented on the guitarist from 'Chicago,' Terry Kath, saying "that guy's better than me"...Jimi was so humble about other players and knew great ones when he heard them : )
One of my 10 favorite lead guitar tones
While visiting my son in Florida, I stepped outside the first morning and thought, I need some "cheap sun glasses". During a 15 minute walk to "an invisible 7-Eleven", I noticed a ZZ Top, replica hot rod in a parking lot. My mind blew so many fuses! I love you guys! Peace
Respec to Texas😎 Cheap Sunglasses brought the funk for sure. Much love Asia & BJ
Seen ZZ Top at Ball State University, Muncie Indiana, in 1972. $2.50 ticket price. They were pretty much an unknown, awesome Band.
I saw ZZ Top when I was in High School. I think it was the Eliminator Tour. I bought me a pair of their cheap sunglasses at one of the t-shirt stands. I LOVED those sunglasses! They looked like the ones the band wore.
"RIO GRANDE MUD" album...."WAITIN FOR THE BUS" & "JESUS JUST LEFT CHICAGO" together. ♥️💯😎
These guys and their Texas boogie woogie…..never disappointed! ❤️🎼❤️🔥🔥🔥
Billy Gibbons on guitar. Jimi Hendrix was interviewed and asked " whats it like to be the worlds greatest guitarist?"
" You'll have to ask Billy Gibbons that question" wow. Hendrix was humble and Billy was HIS favorite guitarist. Is there higher praise? I think not.
Exactly, BJ, Texan born and bred here and one of the things from Texas I'm still proud of!
Good jam ZZTOP cheap sunglasses 😎 awesome MTV days, awesome in concert 😎👏🎸🎸
Now you tapped into the Deguello album, you've got to hear I'm Bad I'm Nationwide, one of their all time greats. Billy Gibbon's the king of tone, and Deguello's got more tones than anything. You like blues, you should also hear I'm Fool for Your Stockings from Deguello, blues as only Billy Gibbons can do it. Hot, blue & righteous.
In the mid-60s, they were called the Moving Sidewalks and friends with Roky Erickson & the 13th Floor Elevators who were big on the Austin, TX psychedelic scene. The Elevators were the first psychedelic band.
Love it that little ol band from Texas
"thank you" the song by ZZ Top.
great song ! heavy bass line. Their first radio song !!!
I love ZZ Top...Perhaps that is why I started a ZZ Top Tribute Band! Lol! Some of the funkiest grooves ever played.
ZZ TOP is on my top 5 all time favorite bands. I've been a die-hard fan since 1973. I've seen them at least 30 times. I really like their Tejas album. Every song is great. Please check out Precious and Grace, Master of Sparks, Avalon Hideaway. Very funky.
RIP DUSTY. Talk about a longevity band with these guys. A lot of CLASSIC tunes. Rock on!!¡
Billy Gibbons (lead guitar and vocals) and Dusty Hill (bass and backing vocals) always had the big long beards but ironically, their drummer, Frank Beard, didn’t have one!! They were awesome live!! Saw them at the old Reunion Arena when they had live longhorns on stage and at Billy Bob’s Texas when they “opened” for the actor, Billy Bob Thornton, who practically got booed off stage!
They are awesome live saw them I mid 8o's in Philly, GREAT BAND
Another fun ZZ Top song is TV Dinners.
And Sleeping Bag.
There were so many "VIBE" songs in the 70s
Been to a few wild parties in high school (late 70’s) and their music was always played. LOL Brings back some great memories! Thank you for this!💜
Ahhhh...one of the best ones..Dollar general shades is so TEAM ASIA......entire song is a guitar groove MASTERPIECE!
ZZ Top has an aura of MYSTERY.....can't explain it....
Maybe it's the sunglasses.
Another song that both of you would likely enjoy from ZZ top is Manic Mechanic from "Deguello" 1979, don't think I've seen anyone else react to it.
Coolest Song Ever! From the coolest band ever. Those guys were a party on the patio everywhere they played, seen them at least 10 times and utterly amazing, good time band with a distinct sound all their own. Try My Heads in Mississippi, its a banger! Enjoy. 🎸
Definitely their own sound. Certain bands are instantly recognizable. ZZ definitely 1 of them.
So love the guitar solo !! The riffs are 🔥🔥!! You both are so right!! ZZ had their own grove!!
He did say “what really knocked me out” was the cheap sunglasses. Asia can wear SunGlasses from the Dollar Tree and be fire
When this song would play during a ZZ Top concert, every one would break out their cheap sunglasses
Asia telling BJ "I need you focus " BJ says no can do with the cheap sunglasses lol.Good one and Happy Happy Birthday
I always thought that ending groove was him coming out of the store with the glasses on, and he’s doing his pimp strut down the street feeling fine. Going slow and putting a groove on it but keeping it easy and in control lol.
ZZ Top they are mad cool!!!!! Great music, good vibes built for good times. Their older stuff is pure roadhouse, juke joint jams.
"Fool for Your Stockings" & "Brown Sugar" are 2 of my favorites - PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS ✌☮
R.i.p. Dusty. Hill ,. He had a ranch down the street from my mom in San. Leon Texas. You will be missed dusty. 🙏🙏. I saw them in Houston about 7 times,. In the 70 s. Before they had beards.💕💕💕
Had my eyes closed...I look up me and BJ snapping on time 🤣🤣🤣🤘🤘🤘
Nobody can talk on the guitar like Billy gibbons. GOAT
"TV dinners" is another fun song!
My Mom was a huge ZZ Top fan and always played their records on our Zenith stereo when I was a kid. I still love them to this day.
Instead of carving, forging their own genre,Billy Gibbons is so creative and emotive, it's like he's talking to you on that guitar 🎸
Ya'll need to hear Waitin' For The Bus/ Jesus Just Left Chicago. One of their best, straight blues too!
One of their most fire songs is from their album Fandango, and it's called, I heard it on the X, which was a radio station down there. But anyway, what the Storyteller is saying is that this girl was hot already and then he noticed that she had cheap sunglasses on and it really knocked him out. So it's actually an argument for cheap sunglasses not the expensive ones.
They were very popular where I grew up in Finland in the seventies. The album Deguello, which if I remember right, think this song comes from, was their masterpiece in my opinion.
I'm with Asia here all the way. I'm tough on sunglasses. I paid big money (for me) and they didn't fare any better than my cheap sunglasses. This is a giant LIVE jam!
Someone might have mentioned this. Jimi Hendrix appeared on the Tonight Show back in the day, and asked anout influences he said blues guys, but said there's this guy out in Texas, Billy Gibbons. Something to think about.
This is my favorite ZZ Top song by a lightyear. 😎🤘
The funny thing about this song is they are talking about cheap sunglasses but this song sent sales of Ray-Bans through the roof.
BJ...Stank and Stankface are NOT the same thing ,bruh!!! Asia , when you hit that little "Oh Yeah!" , it got me thinking about what a female cover of this song could sound like..Food for thought! ❤❤
Jeff Foxworthy has a great monologue about cheap sunglasses
Greatest Three Man Bands…. Jimi Hendrix Experience... Cream… Rush… ZZ TOP… Crosby Stills Nash…Stevie Ray Vaughn - Double Trouble…Triumph…Emerson Lake and Palmer… Grand Funk Railroad… The Police… America.
4 black brothers with a white drummer created this ICONIC Masterpiece from the 60’s Psychedelic Era Trust me…. You do not want your life to end without hearing this song.
“TIME HAS COME TODAY“- The Chambers Brothers - Album Long version, then Live. PLEASE and Thank You.
Music is the universal language of love ❤️
ZZ Top is simply AWESOME....and...my expensive sunglasses get lost just as quick as my cheapo sunglasses, so...cheap sun glasses it is!!
That's what I like. Black folk, white folk feelin it together in music. And I don't care what the small minded people think. Peace!
ZZ TOP could make a rock & roll song about a TV dinner. And they did.
Y’all gotta do their song Fool For your Stocking. Imo one of their best. 👍
“Tube snake boogie”
This guy was exactly right in his comments
If you lose cheap sunglasses it's ok. When you lose the expensive ones you feel it
Ya, Ilene , that's why I don't really want to buy Maui Jim's or Oakley ...It would suck to lose a $175 pair
I'm with ZZ and Asia. Most I ever paid for sunglasses was about $15, and I thought those were spendy. I'm too poor and I lose too many pair to buy expensive shades. Besides, if it's good enough for ZZ Top, it's good enough for me. 😎
BJ seems to be thinking the song was anti-cheap sunglasses, but it was saying what do you do when you wake up hungover? Run and get some cheap sunglasses. And the "little thang" he followed all night, with the funkified Levis, tight sweater and sweet West coat strut... she had all that, but what *really* knocked him out (i.e. what really attracted him to her) was her cheap sunglasses. But in the end, he says the choice is up to you.
So wear your fancy rich people shades if you want, BJ. It's all good. Me and Asia will sport the cool shades like ZZ, and have more money for funkified Levis. 🙂😎😂
Right on to THAT!! I’m saving my lil coins!! Lol!! 🤣🤣
Back in the day with this song we wore black reams with neon colors on the arms Cheap for ZZ TOP 😎 just to block Texas sun day after
I wish you two were my neighbors, you both seem fun and genuine.
Listen to ZZ Top - Manic Mechanic ;)
I remember when I was in the Army, I was heading to the store..my roomy threw me $20...and said " Get me the Ugliest sunglasses, you can find "...=P..this song always reminds me of that.
Next you should Do fool For your Stockings.....their bluesier side
I have always loved the song. I wear cheap sunglasses. Enjoy
I am an old lady watching your videos with the aid of Dollar Tree "reading" glasses!!! LOL!!
I love Billy Gibbons fuzz guitar playing in this song. He is your favorite guitar players' guitar player.
Now how many of you had your cheap sunglasses on while listening to this.......🙋♂️ 🤣🤣🤣 ZZTop Texas Southern Blues Rock ...... Need to do Tush 🙏✌🤘😎🤘
I'm telling everybody this, and I'm prob repeating myself, but ZZ TOP = BANG BANG, a MUST hear
Found a pair of meritus sunglasses years ago . I had to steal them back five times before somebody finally got them 🤣🤣🤣
Other then that I use tinted safety glasses 🕶️
