This confirms what I was saying in my videos a while back. The house settlement is one of the major reasons why schools aren't moving up yet because of the finances for everyone being in question until this settlement is actually finalized. Among FBS schools moving, it doesn't really matter that much. Any school that moves up from FCS to FBS will require help from the conference they are moving up to. And with the uncertainty of the house settlement, no one wants to make that move right now. So if a school is going to move up from FCS to FBS, they most likely won't be starting until the 2026-27 season at the earliest. In a sense it's still the same. We are all in a holding pattern until this gets finalized.
@@Smackyjack440 Montana Schools would be awesome, but extremely unlikely since the University of Montana and Montana State would both have to go together at the same time to be approved by Montana law. Also, the University of Montana's athletic department has serious financial issues and would struggle to get the $5 million dollar fee to move up to FBS and offer 63 scholarships for both men and women for Title 9 and FBS status. This is why the Montana schools are out of the question for right now.
Regarding UTEP joining Mountain West Conference: Gloria Nevarez needs to get the Miners to fully commit to MWC ASAP. UTEP could still switch to the PAC-12.
@@markdyer6040 Is the Pac 12 actually looking at UTEP though? They've been relatively dreadful recently, but I suppose could be a good fit alongside / within a CSU, Memphis, Tulane, Texas State "eastern pod" in the new PAC (with another 1 of USF, Louisiana, UT-San Antonio, Missouri State, NM State, etc)
@ They have both a new basketball and football coach and they have a lot of real good young talent coming up… They had four true freshmen starting on the defense this year and it was the bright spot of the football team. I don’t believe UTEP will be in the cellar for long, but who knows?
Thanks for sharing these different interview clips. I think that the House settlement adds an extra tax towards moving up from FCS to FBS as well as lateral conference moves. It is no longer free movement. Now you have to think about potentially $20 million.
Now, the Mountain West has 8 full members. They can expand to get at least 4 to 6 FCS members to join. I can see Tarlenton State, Sacramento State, Sam Houston, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota, and South Dakota State.
With all the realignment going on where do they mark the cutoff for these groups? Would Washington State be considered a P5 school now? How about SMU? Is a school like Sam Houston or Delaware FBS or FCS? Kind of sucks for schools that just moved up and have not gotten that revenue but would have to pay more anyways.
Yeah, this is definitely something I noticed too....I would think since a settlement based on the past, then the payouts would be for then, but anything going forward would be the large sums. But Maybe with WSU, they ALSO would not have to pay P5, because their finances decreased?
I knew there were lots of moving parts in this situation, with the House settlement being an integral piece. Tbh, if Power Conferences are on the hook for paying student athletes, only they should be held liable to pay them. If every other conference is not being sued, then why are they being shown the bill to pay? Why pay for the BS that the B1G/SEC, etc. created for themselves? That's their problem, not the problem of the AAC, MWC, MAC, C-USA, SBC, etc. A term I like to use in discussions like this is "backstage politics". There is no doubt in my mind that the Power Conferences are playing backstage politics to financially screw over everyone else with the House settlement. Especially for the B1G/SEC, they want to keep everyone else under their thumb and pay for something they themselves should be responsible for. It's a form of economic slavery. Honestly, screw that. And no duh that Sankey and Petitti don't want any other conference to bring up anymore FCS schools which would cut into the CFP pie. They already act like they own/run the sport. If you're a conference in Survival Mode and you need to make such a move, you do it. Help the FCS schools that are truly worth it and move forward. Screw what the B1G/SEC alliance thinks tbvh.
@TheBigMountainPodcast - Great video, thanks for the info. You mentioned the MW will probably want to add one more FBS team. Who do you think that team will be? I personally hope the MW doesn't bring up any FCS teams to it's ranks. But that's just my opinion, to each his or her own.
@SJSUPhil NIU is the most likely, but several others have not had interest. I believe they value a few FCS schools ahead of some FBS. Namely NDSU & Tarleton St. NDSU, as football only, would be a fantastic addition.
Legit FCS schools won't bat at eye at this. NDSU privately funded 2 million a year in Alston Payments and each scholarship athlete in all sports 4 grand in FCOA. NDSU raised 50 million cash in 2 years to build an IPF. Zero public funds were used
I don’t know all the details about f how they raised the money for that, but if I recall, they did get one very large donation of $15 million from one person to make it happen. I don’t know who it was or if they have more money to throw around for more improvements. Either way, I think they can find a way for making it happen if and when they get an invite.
If the FCS schools aren’t generating revenue, where is this money the NCAA was giving them coming from? Revenue generated by P5 football players. Stfu NC A&T
Can we just stop with any of the FCS call ups? We already have enough teams at the FBS level as it is and we don't want to dilute the FCS scene even more.
Nah. While I think some of the recent SouthEastern US FCS->FBS program moves are somewhat questionable (Kennesaw, Jackson, etc) and do adhere to that mindset for me, I'd love to see more FBS programs fill out the western US that is a little barren. Especially the higher-tier, wealthier, and more-deserving ones..... NDSU/SDSU, Montana/Montana State, Tarleton State, and Sacramento State (maybe even also UC Davis, Northern Arizona, Idaho State, and Idaho (again)) should all be in FBS IMO.
The MW should just add Louisiana Tech & New Mexico State in all sports and Valparaiso in men’s and women’s basketball and be done with it. 10 all-sports schools and 2 non-footballers. At a minimum it would solidify the conference and also put a crazy amount of pressure on the PAC to make a move for the remaining best-fit schools like Sam Houston or St. Mary’s or make them look at upper-level FCS schools such as Sacramento State, Tarleton State or the Dakotas or some other upper-level FCS schools [which, based on this video, could be tricky].
LMAO at Sam Houston State or St Mary's for the PAC. And Valparaiso for the MW. No way on any of these. Texas State will likely go to the PAC IMO, and make them whole for 2026. Then the only question will be whether Memphis and Tulane move to the PAC as well..... I think Tarleton State and NDSU will surely still join the MW at this point IMO.

Adding North Dakota State and South Dakota State would be the best thing that ever happened to the Mountain West.
And the Montana Schools

My take is, if the house settlement goes that way, then the schools should pay only 3 million to move up so they don't have to rely on a conference
