The z4 3.0si coupe is an excellent alternative to the Z4 M coupe since it's 200 lbs lighter (all in the front end) with a magnesium block engine, and still excellent power. The 3.0si coupe is one of the lightest BMW rwd sports cars.
A little over a year ago I bought an '07 Z4 M Coupe, black on extended black leather. An unknown past and 100,000 miles on it. I drove it before I bought it and what a beast (lol, especially with the Sport button on). I LOVE THIS CAR so much - I've had a lot of Mustangs including a Saleen and also owned an '04 Honda S2000. All shite compared to this god of a car. I've never driven or been in a car with so much soul. I will pay for and replace anything and everything this car needs to keep it for a very long time. Engine blows? So what, I'll replace it. Reliability? For many years I avoided used BMW's cus I "heard" they were unreliable. Dead wrong. 107k and 10 years old and this thing has been faultless. It literally drives like it's brand new and I've had not one problem of ANY kind with it. Lastly, if you own one of these do yourself a favor and get the Stromung mufflers. Not too loud at all for this old guy but still quite beefy.
Bullet057 that type of show is always welcome. Check out their past shows because they do address sports cars in that price point. The eBay challenges are great and have lower priced cars. Also they did one on three Japanese sports cars you should buy.
Ford Fiesta ST. It's not old, but used ones are on the market everywhere for mid to high teens. If you haven't driven one don't count it off just because front wheel drive and cheap. It wont be the fastest lap time anywhere but it makes you want to take the back way home every day.
Before I bought my Z4 coupe I drove both models. The "Regular" Z4 Coupe was what I chose based on drivability. They both were great driving cars, but I felt that the "Regular" one was a better driving car. The "M" lived above 5500rpm, and was GREAT at high rpm, yet, the regular one ran better all around. Thus a dissension I made back then, is still valid today, as I still drive it on a daily basis. After 133,000 trouble free miles I'm STILL pleased with my choice......
@@idokwatcher2062I own a Z4 3.0i with EPS it doesn't have the steering feel of the hydraulic steering like a Z3 i drove. EPS is better to live with, but I agree you don't get the full sportiness of the car. The M and the regular Z are two different things it makes sense why there's 2 steering set ups. The Z4 was a luxury roadster first, sports car second and the M was raw
As a Z4M driver I agree, though I might be a bit biased ;-) But that S54 engine is just a masterpiece, I honestly don't think there is any other engine in that price range which can beat it. Good power output, driveability, decent torque, revs to 8.000RPM, sounds awesome, decent fuel consumption (11-13l/100km), reliable, not to heavy

I bought an '01 BMW Z3 3.0i last year with only 19k miles on it. It obviously isn't up to M spec, but the one thing about that car that I noticed them say in this video is that it made me enjoy driving again. There is something about the combination of attributes that just makes me want to drive it. In fact, I am being very careful with my modifications so I don't ruin that inherent goodness. I could care less if it isn't faster than a Mustang. It is such a pure joy to drive that it doesn't matter. I imagine the Z4M is much the same. I am keeping my eyes out for one to add to my stable.
I have a z4 3.0i roadster, I'd love the coupe they look better, especially the z4m, I do enjoy putting the roof down though Straight 6 n/a engine is great
Maybe one day an m will be mine think the coupe looks great though, we need a coupe shape with a hard top retractable roof, best of both worlds, probably not possible to make and it would be too heavy, the e89 looks ok but still not as great as the e86 coupe Great to see the z4 getting some love, rwd, great engine, classic looks with the huge bonnet (I'm British lol) given those features it's not really talked about much
As an owner of a '07 Z4M Coupe, I must say this car has really been a great one to own. I find this car is a blend between a GT car with a great aptitude for distance, and an agile sports car. After owning many different sports cars, this now shares my garage with a turbo '00 Impreza and an '86 MR2 (turbo swap in process). Random bit of info, but the M has nearly the same wheelbase as the old MR2, but considerably more width. In my eyes, this car is a true gem. To me, this provides nearly the same driving experience as a 911, but priced in a similar bracket as the Cayman. The Cayman feels slightly less powerful, and a breeze in the corners. However, the reality is you just don't have to work for it. From there, conversations generally refer you up to the 911 which of course provides a little more of a challenge. To me, this car just bridges the gap and is extremely rewarding. Essentially, it punches a little above it's weight bracket. When at the track, the M makes the top 10% of performance something you have to really hone your skills with, but blissful to drive within the lower 90%. As such, I find myself driving this car nearly every day.
1815 Z4M coupes were built over three years for North America, making it pretty rare. Which means that you are going to pay for some expensive work/parts when repairs need to be done. Also, for those who slam Corvette interiors, the base Z4M was no better than the 2005 C6, with acres of black, featureless plastic and I say this as a BMW owner. The Z4M looks great (at least on the outside) and is fun to drive. The review is just about that, and not about "value," or how much you get for your money. For the $18-25,000 they go for now you certainly get a cool car that won't look like anyone else's.
Such a great platform, great choice. The Z4 GT3 is one of the most gorgeous racecars ever made IMO. The Z4M or even a regular Z4 will always be on my wishlist.
Why do you want the second to fastest BMWs? That's like saying I prefer to go to Six Flags over Disney World because I just like roller coasters. The M3 is a better dream BIG.
I've been seeing Z4 M Coupes getting a lot of attention lately, but I don't think people give the non-M roadsters enough credit. I've used a 2006 with the N52 as a daily for 2 years now and a lot of the sensations you guys described translate to the car. Sitting behind the middle of the car, putting the top down, hearing the 6 wailing, and enjoying the "double click" shifts never gets old and reminds me of why I love driving. For similar mileage, you can get one for less than an S2000, which is a better sports car, but a Z4 will give you 90% of the performance and a better all-around car and equally enjoyable experience.
Guys, that turn from the hip feeling Prichinello was talking about ... I could never explain the sensation, but to me that is the most exciting gifts a good handling sporty car could give me, as a driver. I have only felt it once before, and believe it of not that was in an 87' Honda Prelude. I think the secret is in the long front hood and the driver sitting further back.--- Any other cars that you know of that fit this type of entertainment? I'll be in the market in a few months.
I watched/ listened to your z4 m coupe episode this morning on my way home from work this morning. I live on Long Island and work nights in NYC. I have had an interest in this car since the first one debuted. Now Im sure prices will soon skyrocket. Any way I really enjoy the show it keeps me entertained on my 120 mile round trip commute. I have been into ATV motor-cross for some time and now closing in on forty and being a new parent comes with time restraints and the hobbies take a back seat. I had always been into cars since my father has been a mechanic and hot rod enthusiast. Life, careers, and economic recessions get in the way sometimes of plans and goals. I had my own business, bought a house with enough property for a detached 3 car garage and was doing well before 2009. Well a career change and a few years later I found myself in a VW GTI to commute with. Shortly thereafter with a slew of bolt ons and suspension mods I found myself looking forward to my commute and feeling like a kid again driving my brothers Honda Civic SI hatch and Integra's of the early nineties. Now I am at a good place in my career Im looking for a newer car being that I put almost 200k on the GTI. This leads me to ask a the question if you had a commute like mine what would you buy knowing it will depreciate fast. Although I have a diesel pickup for bad weather I was looking at a 2012-13 Audi TTS for an awd sporty option with comfort. Or would you continue to drive the GTI and buy something along the lines of the Z4 M coupe or a 997 911 for the weekends and a day here or there to work. I would like to start doing some track days in the near future. Thoughts? Im having a tough time deciding.
997.1 Turbo 997.1 GT3 RS BMW m5/m6 V10 (yes, I know that those are heavy but da noise)!! BMW Z4 M coupe Honda S2000 Corvette C6 Z06 Audi RS4 Audi R8 MT6
Gents, The M coupe version of the Z4 really makes that car and it should be the only version. The car looks bad ass and has all of the other characteristics to back it up. It would be really nice to see the car being DRIVEN!
Nice!! They are definitely two good cars to get into, though they are gonna be two different beasts - like a sniper rifle and a shotgun. Both a lot of fun though. AWD vs RWD. Turbo vs V10.
Everyone seems to over looks this...but the E46 non M cars are fantastic. I drive a E46 325ci and its an absolute blast. It's not fast but it's plenty fun, takes suspension mods well, is cheap/supported well in the after market, and still manages 30+ mpg on the highway.
Why not though? If im correct its around 3400 lbs, front engine, rear wheel drive, and with a 5 speed box...the only thing its missing is any real power (I think mine is less that 200hp at the wheel) and an LSD
you're right i own an e46 330i 5sp and with a UUC flywheel/clutch setup, koni shocks, wider tires, exhaust, and some bushings it is so fun to drive. Next mods i want to do are headers and LSD diff.
Z3 M Coupe for me its the peach, because of the looks, the rear E30 suspensión, the S54 motor and the overall drive.. had the z4m but sold it because of the Z3MC! S2K is another great machine.. it has the best shifter of its class 👌
I won't argue with your pick here. That looks like a ton of fun to drive. But, now that I am older, I want something slightly more comfortable and with more space because I can't have a garage full of cars. So I'd go with an XK until the FType ages. I had a 97 and loved it. More of a sports tourer than a true sports car, but it's good enough to have fun in. Pikes Peak was a riot.
Actually that's a bit of a myth, repair work on a Vette is not cheap like other GM cars and it has a major design flaw that may cause the whole engine to fail. Look up ruclips.net/video/2d3PKROo6YA/видео.html 4:35
Could not agree more with the comments! I have a '09 July Coupe model and it's something special. Did all the mechanical work (i.e. bearings, VANOS) and now pulls like a train. For the price, nothing comes close in terms of brutal, raw, zinging, screaming performance. It's been over two years of ownership and it still scares me every time I drive it.
Great show guys! I'm hoping to be up your way in the next few weeks. CCCM is on my stop list. It may be older than ten years but you guys should at least give a shout out to the E24 M6. My opinion in being a next up and comer following the 964. Just a thought. Im currently finishing an "Outlaw" M635 myself and have been following the stats of the M6 three years now. I'm predicting that the E24 will shock a lot of people. Your thoughts??
2008 BMW 335i sedan, sports package, 6 speed. Easy, cheap, and reliably make 400whp with 2k and about 4-5 mods. Motor, trans, fuel system can handle the power easily. 4 doors makes everyone happy. BMW drives, well, like a BMW. Have a little more money to spend? 2009 CTS-V sedan or wagon if you can find one. Want something less practical? C6 Z06. Those would be my top 3.
I like the idea of working on the actual driving. Putting wider more low profile tires because that "should" handle better can be a big mistake. Same with stiffer suspension for its own sake. I had a 61 E-Type that did not have great ultimate stick but was a joy to drive and rewarded a good touch. You could steer with the throttle through a turn and getting the gear shift just right was a rewarding experience. I did do a lot of small mods but never chased more horse power for its own sake.
My vote goes to the 2007 Bmw e92 M3. Perfect daily driver that blends both luxury, and performance. Amazing high revving v8, dct or a buttery smooth 6 spd manual, can't go wrong with either choice, has aged gracefully, so much fun to drive. Also a track car if you need it to be.
LegendInThaMakin values will continue to drop and in my opinion, not aging gracefully. it's a bit too big and the throttle actuator and rod bearings issues make it high maintenance. not to mention the motor wasn't a good match for the chassis. too low on torque for 3700lbs. of course just my opinion...from a former e92m3 owner
roy kwon 1. I meant aging gracefully meaning it still looks great today. 2. throttle actuators will go, that's a given, Rod bearings is not nearly as common as people say and asides from these two, it's an incredibly reliable car. 3. that engine won international engine of the year from 2008-2012 4. no, YOUR car is just heavy, the convertible is 500 pounds heavier than the e92, you should know this. If you wanted your car to be lighter you shouldn't have gotten the e93, you did that to yourself. 5. low torque isn't a big deal, just rev higher.
Flyin Miata Habu, it takes a near perfect formula and just gives you more. It compliments the base car without ruining any of the characteristics that people love from the base car.
As Chris Harris said, the 350z is an '80% car' - feels quality and tight when driven up to 80% of its limit - when pushed beyond that its weaknesses come out in leaps and bounds, whereas the Z4M is quality right to the limit.
Funny because when I bought it, I knew in 8-10 years , it would be the last 'real' sports car around. Nat. Aspirated, straight 6 pulling in a perfect straight line, and responsive as hell with perfect balance. The first time I broke the rear end on purpose and drifted 100 yards, it came back so natuarally that all you can do is smile. Nothing else felt like that. Not a 911, not a cayman, and on and on. I want to put it in context with older sports cars in terms as feel…but I haven't driven enough to do so. Like a modern 67 stingray with modern steering, suspension, and just enough gruff..
In the UK I'd go for the S2 Lotus Elise SC (Supercharged). In fact I just got one, and it's by FAR the most fun car I've ever owned (previously had an E92 M3, Evo 5, TT GTO, E46 M3, S2000, and many more). It's just focused on driving - no frills, almost like a big gokart, and they hold their value incredibly well compared to other makes. I have a grin on my face almost from the moment I get in, to when I get out. Would recommend to anyone :)
BMW E46 330ci manual. Bought mine with 120k miles for $4800. Just done some basic maintenance and I have put 30k miles on it no problem. Fantastic to drive, pretty quick, and mines got a drop top.
why the dislikes guys? they do have a point, people might not like the fact that this is an expensive car and you can get cheaper cars from japan in the same category that are fast but there is a reason this bmw is still more expensive...i do like the z4 (and the z3) ,they look great and having an e46 m3 engine in a small car sounds awesome!
Lotus Elise all day long. Talk about a car that makes you smile endlessly and always forces you to DRIVE the car. In the same price range of the Z4 too
I managed to find a 135i. It had the waste gate rattle and the turbo seals were going a little. I had that repaired and I upgraded the waste gates. Thing is now running stronger than ever. I've got JB4 on it, a charge pipe, full exhaust, bootlip spoiler, and a custom performance bulge hood
@ThirdEyeComputers N55 is more reliable yes, but the N54 has forged internals. BMW realised that people were tuning the N54 (using JB4) and it was beating the more expensive M3. The N54's twin turbos were also giving problems So they fixed the N54 by nerfing it (all cast internals), and they gave it a single turbo
Crossfire. I've bought one, it's rare, looks stunning and still very modern, cruises like a proper GT, has more than enough speed (6.7s -60 & 155mph) great engine (3.2 SLK V6) and handles really well, even if it feel so rather numb to control. It has plenty of equipment, it's comfortable and all this costs very little money now.
2007 Volvo S60R. Performance Volvos have always been more about that visceral experience of driving compared to sheer speed but they certainly aren't lacking there either
My Stage 2 GTI (its an '08 purchased in '07 so that counts as 10 years old right?) completely reignited my love for driving. I had been all about motorcycles for some time (still am) and decided no car could come remotely close to how much I enjoyed my bike. GTI changed that. What a good, charming, and fun car.
The pendulum motion you described happens because it's exactly opposite as you described. You are sitting closer to the rear wheels so you are at the end of the pendulum which is pronounced. Small input in front of you, large output behind you. It makes for a feeling of as you stated, rotating. A car that truly rotates on it's center is like driving a bumper-car.
I've had 4 Acura TL's (00' was my first car, 04', 02'-S, and 07') I absolutely loved those cars. They were plenty luxurious enough for a 16-25 year old. The 04 and 07 were my favorite body styles but the 02-S was sneaky quick. Next I owned a Lexus IS300. My first rear wheel drive car. It was just quick enough to have some fun with and then I bought the 05' G35 coupe. Absolutely love the car. Being 28 it's all that I can afford right now because I'm trying to make smart investments (paid cash for the car). 6k for a 300hp car. Pretty good deal in my eyes. But in the future I'd really like to own an NSX. Unfortunately they have skyrocketed in price so it's going to be a dream for a while. I'm sorry to say being a self proclaimed "car guy" I've never learned how to drive a manual, but with not enough money to buy a daily driver and a "fun car" I've always invested my time and energy into my dailies. It's just more economical for me. Automatic NSX's are cheaper normally because no one wants them but me lol. So that works in my favor. Maybe when I have the money to invest in a fun car and a daily I'll learn to drive a manual. So all I really know speaking from personal experience is my G35 is really fun for the money. But I hear amazing things about the Z4M coupe (obviously after this video), the S2k, the NSX, the Skyline R32 GTR (recently legal in the states), the FD RX7, nissan 300zx, and the supra. Really hard to find anything off of that list of cars that's been properly modified though. If you guys ever do a "10+ yr old sports car under 10k" video I'd be shocked if the G or Z wasn't at least mentioned lol.
Thing with manuals is there just too much work for me to be driving them on city roads. Abs I can't even use my phone, I think I'll stick to automatics :)
I'm biased but I vote for RX8. Great handling, great steering, great transmission, practical with 4 actual seats, and cheap. Looks unique and especially with the aero package it has aged well. I admit, the weak point for some people is the engine. I personally love the rotary. It sounds like a jet, revs to 9K rpm and it is so smooth.
I own this car, it only has 26000 k mi. It is by far the sweetest sounding car which came ready for the track with 240 HP. I haven't change mine but they can easily attain over 600HP with the right blower.
Glad to see the s2000 here. Growing up that was my dream car didnt know shit about it. Finally got it and really appreciating and acknowleding its creation. Bring back the old honda!
I go with a 2008 Lexus ISF. They are rock solid up to 200k. I wouldn’t trust anything German passed warranty. Yes it’s a Toyota, yes it has fake exhaust tips. That’s about the most hate it gets.
I own a 2007 Z4 M Coupe and a 2002 Z3 M Coupe and I have to say they are both amazing cars in different ways. Aftermarket Clutch Delay Valve (CDV) is a must in the Z4M. It's much more refined than the Z3M Coupe and also does not have bottom end rod-bearing issues like the early S54 cars. If you can't afford a Z3MC for $45,000+, then get a Z4MC. In the numbers game and in reliability the Z4MC is a better car. Less wild, more refined, faster, and easier to live with everyday. I'll create a video channel on here with detailed repair info on both of these cars and show how affordably you can own a BMW Z sports car.
Agreed. I also have a 996T (and have seen a few of your videos). Would have liked the Corvette Z06 cost/benefit if I didn't live in a place with winter :p
nice, agree z06 cost less to maintain, its a great car, but i wanted rear seat for the 5 year old, :) and awd, pretty much all my cars were AWD, do to crappy weather in Chicago and all season car. it's perfect. I'm going to start adding more videos ones i find more time, thanks!
BMW's are reliable as long as you keep up with the maintenance schedule. My experience has been that BMW's have a very low tolerance for lapses with maintenance. So when you are looking for a 10y/o beamer documentation is important. A neglected BMW in the states will be like dating a high maintenance super model with a coke habit (She's pretty but you won't ride as often as you like because there's always something wrong and whatever it is to fix it will always be expensive.)
agree the 350Z is a great driving car. Never much liked the looks of it, but when behind the wheel, great car. We've had a few M6 coupes. They're good cars, but man, 12 miles to the gallon. Overtime you started it a polar bear would evaporate. Also heavy. A better GT car for the interstate thrash than a sports car in hunt of fast bends.
The guy who lives next door to me just bought a old M6 coupe with 125 K miles on it. It is a beautiful car that is stupid fast. He let me take it for a drive, it was a blast!!
can we stop with the BMWs? I get it, they're great but there are other options out there. e30, z4, BMW BMW BMW. it's like I'm 14 again sitting in my Dad's garage hearing him ramble on and on. sorry but the over exposure makes the brand uncool. I want to know about hidden gems, not the no brainers. Sorry Drive.
FC Imports M4 coupe is kinda rare and not at all the obvious choice for any show about best sports cars. The brand is better known for sedans and 2+2 coupes. 911, Corvette, Honda S2000 would be more common choices for 10 years ago.
Michael Cohen I must have too many BMW fan boys as friends. Seems like I've talked about this car forever already. Lol I'm not hating, it's just like BMW is plastered on every single channel I follow. I need a break. I've driven them, they're dope. Vanilla is great and an awesome go to, but I want to know about the other flavors.
Hi Guys, I just went for a Mercedes SLK 55 AMG, which was 12 years old but only 25k miles - and garaged day and night for last 10 years. It is a real iron fist in a velvet glove, but the Auto box IS dull-witted, and the handling/ride compromise is nowhere near a Boxster - but ok. For the money - in a straight line there isn't much to touch it for £15k. I've tried quite a few cars having been a London CCC member for 15 years or so. Keep up the good work
we have a supercharged F-type. For me, geeze, I really don't like that car. I know I'm in the minority there. It makes too much noise. it's kind of ridiculous, cracking and popping when you're just parking it. The sound is a product of the marketing department, not the engineering department. I also find the steering very vague and numb. Again, just me.
996 Turbo. Super high bang for the buck. Less refined than a 997 Turbo but the 997T hovers around 60K for a driver and the 996T can be had for high 20's. I got mine at 28K and needed a little bit of work, but best I could buy with my budget and I'm really happy with it :)
E46 M3 for me, for basically all the same reasons as the video. Only, the E46 M3 is much cheaper and at the bottom of its depreciation curve, it has back seats, and has daily driver practicality. Add in Oxford Green with Cinnamon interior and you have a timelessly classy, yet masculine and aggressive looking and driving car. The S54 is absolutely glorious to rev out. The engine just makes a noise that doesn't exist in modern cars today, unless you step into the exotic car market. Handling and steering are second to nothing, short of Porsche and beyond. It is incredible how much car you get for the money. Between the balanced performance, the interior (cinnamon nappa leather), the looks, and the overall driving experience and "sense of occasion", it would be hard to find another car that does all of those same things just as well while retaining that analog mechanical feel, that costs sub-$100k.
relating to or using signals or information represented by a continuously variable physical quantity such as spatial position or voltage. umm i don't see anything about lotus or elise in there
Great cars. We've had a few - Exiges as well. They have a safe space in my heart. The Z4 is a bit more of a daily driver if you want it to be, but still - Exige/Elise - great sports cars/
2006 Z4M roadster moded with adjustable suspension, sports exhaust, light wt race wheel and brimbo BBK great driver car on twisty mountain roads. I also have a 2006 Cayenne Turbo S stock, it has 520hp with 530 ft lb torq is a great highway cruiser with unlimited power for passing and pull going up steep mountain grades.
Car that reignited my love for driving was 2004 Corvette Z06. I was wonderfully balanced, but it commanded your respect, and if driven right it was so rewarding. Unfortunately, I was forced to sell it, life happens. But I will purchase another Corvette, maybe a newer one if it delivers the same analog driving experience.
I have owned both, and the Cayman S right before the Z4MC. The Porsche is an amazing car no doubt, however there is a zest to the BMW that can't be easily explained. The Cayman is almost too easy to drive.
I had this car a few years ago and still miss it. Because you sit so far back it's really easy to drift and have fun with. I also tracked it quite a bit and at Mosport which is a pretty high speed track it was awesome. The only thing I really ended up changing was the brakes so I could brake later.
Not sure why these guys always snub American cars. C6Z shits all over the bmws. Lol, I dont think theres a BMW from the factory that can compete with a c6z, a car thats already 10 years old. Yea it has shitty interior, but we are talking about best sports car to buy. Easy answer, C6Z.
This is one of the best comment threads in AFTER/DRIVE history. Well done guys
how about you let me on the show and ill do some drifting or some cool shit with my srt10 viper ram 6 speed with my sportbike loaded in the back lol
Or you just have someone film it and do it yourself, the put it on youtube..
If you can get here, you're on.
pm me the info please
Bread Van, they call them the bread van in the uk.
DRIVE, single handedly raising the prices on every car I want to buy

BMW unreliable? I have now driven many models including 6 and 8 cylinder cars and unreliable is not in my book.
Still have the same opinion ?
Please do the best sports cars for 5k-20k. That's a young persons sports car budget usually.
Bullet057 that's a regular enthusiasts budget, regardless of age
Bullet057 that type of show is always welcome. Check out their past shows because they do address sports cars in that price point. The eBay challenges are great and have lower priced cars. Also they did one on three Japanese sports cars you should buy.
JonnyRion: Maybe your should consider maxing out your 401K first. ...unless you have already done that.
Boxster/Cayman are on the top of this list.
You got EPS and said it's better? Yeah, doubt that.
@@idokwatcher2062 ok ))
@@idokwatcher2062I own a Z4 3.0i with EPS it doesn't have the steering feel of the hydraulic steering like a Z3 i drove. EPS is better to live with, but I agree you don't get the full sportiness of the car. The M and the regular Z are two different things it makes sense why there's 2 steering set ups. The Z4 was a luxury roadster first, sports car second and the M was raw
As a Z4M driver I agree, though I might be a bit biased ;-)
But that S54 engine is just a masterpiece, I honestly don't think there is any other engine in that price range which can beat it. Good power output, driveability, decent torque, revs to 8.000RPM, sounds awesome, decent fuel consumption (11-13l/100km), reliable, not to heavy

S2000. They're not cheap and they will never get cheaper. They rev past 8000. You can rest assured they will only appreciate.
This
Israeli3030 yah and every single one of them have been modified and riced out and than before someone resell it they put it somewhere near stock and pretend it was that way its entire life....
that's not cheap for a car of that era
e92 m3's better, v8, revs to 8200.
Where is "here"? I'm looking for one, and that's much cheaper than where I currently am looking. We're talking about clean title under 60k miles?
I bought an '01 BMW Z3 3.0i last year with only 19k miles on it. It obviously isn't up to M spec, but the one thing about that car that I noticed them say in this video is that it made me enjoy driving again. There is something about the combination of attributes that just makes me want to drive it. In fact, I am being very careful with my modifications so I don't ruin that inherent goodness. I could care less if it isn't faster than a Mustang. It is such a pure joy to drive that it doesn't matter. I imagine the Z4M is much the same. I am keeping my eyes out for one to add to my stable.
I have a z4 3.0i roadster, I'd love the coupe they look better, especially the z4m, I do enjoy putting the roof down though
Straight 6 n/a engine is great
I have a Z4 M Roadster.... and really enjoy the S54 Sound with the roof off! I do not track the car, so a coupe was not ideal for me.
Maybe one day an m will be mine
think the coupe looks great though, we need a coupe shape with a hard top retractable roof, best of both worlds, probably not possible to make and it would be too heavy, the e89 looks ok but still not as great as the e86 coupe
Great to see the z4 getting some love, rwd, great engine, classic looks with the huge bonnet (I'm British lol) given those features it's not really talked about much
I agree, its kind of the forgotten gem. Everybody talks about the M3. Yet this car is a true sports car, not sports sedan.
🤘🏽
I recently bought a 2003 Z4 3.0i manual with 39000 miles. I love it.
I have an 06 Z4M coupe Dinan with plenty of mods. Brembo BBK, Dinan 3.91 diff, evolve carbon intake and alpha n tune to name a few. Love it.
“You don’t have to work for it”, WTF are you saying? A poor chassis is “having to work for it”? Stupid af…
@@clu4u I'm saying I find the Z4 M-Coupe to be a significantly more engaging car to drive.
Z4 coupe is like a much better version of the 350z
Lol I own a 350z and want a Z4coupe now

not a sports car no? maybe clk?
Most of the listed are not true sports cars. Sports cars > Sports sedans.
Gabe Pettinicchio usually that's associate with rear mod-engine cars like a Cayman.
I haven’t driven one, but I think the Toyota 86 provides a similar experience.
Too much talking not enough car.
Yeah anoying and why theres only double the like as there is dislikes
Shame the only car sounds are the outro

BMW Z4 M coupe
Honda S2000

Gents,
The M coupe version of the Z4 really makes that car and it should be the only version. The car looks bad ass and has all of the other characteristics to back it up.
It would be really nice to see the car being DRIVEN!
You can see some shots of me driving mine here (sorry about the obnoxious music, I think it's hilarious) ruclips.net/video/loHLcbdXPpc/видео.html
996 Turbo. Hands down the most underrated car out there just because of the headlights.
LuckyCobra7 i like the lights
I agree with you :) I love my 996 Turbo
LuckyCobra7 when i can save up more money my plan is to trade my evo for a 996 turbo or 98 gts viper
Nice!! They are definitely two good cars to get into, though they are gonna be two different beasts - like a sniper rifle and a shotgun. Both a lot of fun though. AWD vs RWD. Turbo vs V10.
I always thought that a parked 996 - when you look at the profile - is a fast looking car standing still
My z4m roadster was 340bhp, but now has 525bhp with ess supercharger. It,s a BEAST.
Everyone seems to over looks this...but the E46 non M cars are fantastic. I drive a E46 325ci and its an absolute blast. It's not fast but it's plenty fun, takes suspension mods well, is cheap/supported well in the after market, and still manages 30+ mpg on the highway.
Yeah, CIs are a great choice.
Big Mike Those get an lsd? Alright you won me over my comment is deleted
No no you misread what i said....come with open diff sadly...it NEEDS an LSD
Still holding on to mine. 28k miles, silver and stock. Love it
3:00 Shooting brake is the term you're looking for, I think.
i was watching Jeopardy at the same time and yelled this out! (I'm UK)
"Bread Wagon". That's what I was hunting for.
no its Breadvan
Watching this I couldnt believe 3 guys in the Manhattan car club couldn't think of the name shooting brake..lol.
A 2007 model seems so new to me. The newest thing I've ever owned was 2001 and that seemed really modern by my standards.
the Z3M is the bread van here in the UK +/DRIVE
Z3 M Coupe for me its the peach, because of the looks, the rear E30 suspensión, the S54 motor and the overall drive.. had the z4m but sold it because of the Z3MC!
S2K is another great machine.. it has the best shifter of its class 👌
i got sleepy watching this....
atleast drive the damn car lol
/SIT
I just learned how to speed up the video to 1.5x....it helps!
Seriously. This sucked.
Junah Moreau
Couldn't have said it better.
Man, if it's fun, it's fun.
2007 Corvette Z06. Over 500 hp, a design that has and will stand up over time, and it's easily modified. Plus any repair work is relatively cheap.
Actually that's a bit of a myth, repair work on a Vette is not cheap like other GM cars and it has a major design flaw that may cause the whole engine to fail. Look up ruclips.net/video/2d3PKROo6YA/видео.html 4:35
everybody and their mother has a vette
@@PHARMDVIPER I never see any
Could not agree more with the comments!
Nice to see that drive is reviving :)
You’ve managed to forge the penultimate car discussion in recent history. This is unparalleled. PLEASE continue with this beautiful format!
I love that land cruiser
I like the idea of working on the actual driving. Putting wider more low profile tires because that "should" handle better can be a big mistake. Same with stiffer suspension for its own sake. I had a 61 E-Type that did not have great ultimate stick but was a joy to drive and rewarded a good touch. You could steer with the throttle through a turn and getting the gear shift just right was a rewarding experience. I did do a lot of small mods but never chased more horse power for its own sake.
How much for the Landcruiser? ;D
Civic Type-R EP3 Facelift. Best Civic ever and definitely underrated. In my mind the best hot hatch till time.
LegendInThaMakin did they have the e92 m3 in 07?
Mike Fornuto 2007 is when it started.
3. that engine won international engine of the year from 2008-2012
4. no, YOUR car is just heavy, the convertible is 500 pounds heavier than the e92, you should know this. If you wanted your car to be lighter you shouldn't have gotten the e93, you did that to yourself.
5. low torque isn't a big deal, just rev higher.
LegendInThaMakin you can go wrong with the automatic. defeats the purpose of an M3
Flyin Miata Habu, it takes a near perfect formula and just gives you more. It compliments the base car without ruining any of the characteristics that people love from the base car.
350z anybody? No? Cheap, reliable, and a blast to drive. Also looks amazing for being over 10 years old!
Ugh, fuck no.
Tim Kesting have one and it's amazing!
Totally, i have a 06 g35s coupe and its still amazing.
nah, it's too much of a kids car. I don't think it aged that we'll either.. I'd rather have an e92 M3... should be 10 years old now.
350z, STI, corvette, audi rs4, lotus exige
Greatness
why the dislikes guys? they do have a point, people might not like the fact that this is an expensive car and you can get cheaper cars from japan in the same category that are fast but there is a reason this bmw is still more expensive...i do like the z4 (and the z3) ,they look great and having an e46 m3 engine in a small car sounds awesome!
26minute vide with no fucking b-roll. Get it together guys, its not a podcast.
I never film myself fucking. And it is a podcast, that we film.
John Friedrich b roll? So stupid
Lotus Elise all day long. Talk about a car that makes you smile endlessly and always forces you to DRIVE the car. In the same price range of the Z4 too
I went for the 135i (N54)
Yeah. Or a 335i. Easier to find and almost as fun.
ThirdEyeComputers n55 cars aren't over 10 years old yet
I managed to find a 135i.
It had the waste gate rattle and the turbo seals were going a little. I had that repaired and I upgraded the waste gates.
Thing is now running stronger than ever. I've got JB4 on it, a charge pipe, full exhaust, bootlip spoiler, and a custom performance bulge hood
did you find a coupe or a Hatch? awesome car! might be the successor of my e46 330ci.
if the price will go any higher for the e46 M3.
@ThirdEyeComputers
N55 is more reliable yes, but the N54 has forged internals.
BMW realised that people were tuning the N54 (using JB4) and it was beating the more expensive M3.
The N54's twin turbos were also giving problems
So they fixed the N54 by nerfing it (all cast internals), and they gave it a single turbo
Car manufacturers need to stop making crap digital cars and go back to analog, everything is so disconnected and artificial feeling these days...
Danny .Lopez so true
100%
The pendulum motion you described happens because it's exactly opposite as you described. You are sitting closer to the rear wheels so you are at the end of the pendulum which is pronounced. Small input in front of you, large output behind you. It makes for a feeling of as you stated, rotating. A car that truly rotates on it's center is like driving a bumper-car.
any 997 would be pretty awesome
My 2005 TL was the best car I ever owned. The ivtec engine and the car styling in and out w fantastic! Easy ahead of its time.
Thing with manuals is there just too much work for me to be driving them on city roads. Abs I can't even use my phone, I think I'll stick to automatics :)
I logged in just to give this video a thumbs up, regardless if I liked their choice...because /DRIVE is a cool channel and deserves it.
🤘🏽
Rudy M Thanks Rudy. What would be your pick?
I'm biased but I vote for RX8. Great handling, great steering, great transmission, practical with 4 actual seats, and cheap. Looks unique and especially with the aero package it has aged well. I admit, the weak point for some people is the engine. I personally love the rotary. It sounds like a jet, revs to 9K rpm and it is so smooth.
I am sorry, I do not agree. I believe the 2002 Honda S2000. It is a 9000 RPM on a six speed. It is heaven to drive.
Mity Nice Quality Advice Good one!
I'll create a video channel on here with detailed repair info on both of these cars and show how affordably you can own a BMW Z sports car.
my 996 turbo. way older than 10. all season car. or evo x
Daily Driven Turbo tax.
Like the dude below Nissan 350z, great bang for your buck. A 3.5 V6 with one of the best sounding exhausts I've ever heard.
Also the old BMW M6 Coupe?
Seymore Butts A 350z done right can be a great car.
rolon96 2810 totally dude, some pirellis p zero's, camber arms, coil overs and hi flow cats. Great street and track performance car.
Rod bearings....
agree the 350Z is a great driving car.
Barron A. Rod Bearings?
The guy who lives next door to me just bought a old M6 coupe with 125 K miles on it. It is a beautiful car that is stupid fast. He let me take it for a drive, it was a blast!!
can we stop with the BMWs? I get it, they're great but there are other options out there. e30, z4, BMW BMW BMW. it's like I'm 14 again sitting in my Dad's garage hearing him ramble on and on. sorry but the over exposure makes the brand uncool. I want to know about hidden gems, not the no brainers. Sorry Drive.
what about an Acura RSX, Toyota Mr2 spyder, Honda s2000, rx-8 limited, Boxster S, audi s4 cab,
FC Imports M4 coupe is kinda rare and not at all the obvious choice for any show about best sports cars.
How is a Z4M Coupe (only about 1800 ever made it to North America) not a rare gem?
My 2007 Mazda MX-5 GT . I paid $18,300 for it brand new and it's been flawless ever since.
26.5 minutes to talk about 1 car and not drive it. WTF.
Keep up the good work
In 10 years will this be the F-Type Manual?
I think you're right
we have a supercharged F-type. For me, geeze, I really don't like that car. I know I'm in the minority there. It makes too much noise. it's kind of ridiculous, cracking and popping when you're just parking it. The sound is a product of the marketing department, not the engineering department. I also find the steering very vague and numb. Again, just me.
Mike Prichinello wonderful GT car. Sports car? Not so sure about that.
f type is a big car
Christopher DeFeo about the same as a Mustang which bsckseats and huge trunk. 700 lbs heavier than a Boxster. Jag is great but has some work to do.
The P71 Crown Vic has astonishing dynamics when pushed to the limits….a little modding and you have an EXCELLENT bug out vehicle…
Really the Z4m? The Honda S2000 is the better value, easier to maintain, and more engaging!!
Jose Ferrer ap1 FTW
Love my '07 Z4 M Roadster. Wanted a Coupe, but didn't care for the visibility compared to the roadster.
350z NISMO! only because I have one and I cant afford anything over 20K hahaha
C6 Corvette with the Z51 package. Very comfortable, run to drive and fast. I have a 07 and it's a beast when i want it to be.
2007 Porsche GT3. What do I win?
Pennywise Nothing a 2007 Corvette Z06 just lapped you for the 2nd time.
turshin what are you smoking?
ShoryukenDatAzz slow ass GT3's. That's what I'm smoking. LMFAO 😂😂😂
+turshin The Z06 is 0.5s faster at Button Willow. I'll give up 0.5s just so I don't have to look at the interior of the vette. No thanks fam.
Slow? Did you say a GT3 is slow?
So glad this is back. Missed these guys over the past year.
997 Turbo.
..really more Super Car realm.. I think the intent of this video was to name top 10 used, low cost sports cars.
mclaren f1
996 Turbo. Super high bang for the buck. Less refined than a 997 Turbo but the 997T hovers around 60K for a driver and the 996T can be had for high 20's. I got mine at 28K and needed a little bit of work, but best I could buy with my budget and I'm really happy with it :)
Nick Lewis weld them coolant lines in place fam
Lotus Elise.
spookmineer nononono
i've had the Elise for 7 yrs..no issues..lots of revs..literally the definition of analog, and the value is going up on them
relating to or using signals or information represented by a continuously variable physical quantity such as spatial position or voltage.
umm i don't see anything about lotus or elise in there
Caterhams are nice aswel
2009 Porsche Cayman S with PDK.
then post this in 2019 when it's been 10 fucking years
PDK not the driver's choice. So what if it's faster against the clock.
I was always curious about this car. It just looked fun, until I drove it. NOW I LOVE THIS CAR! Z4 coupe!
Definitely a Cayman S over this
Yes but you should go for the 987 facelift models and you NEEED the LSD.
Great car, the Cayman S. Love them. But for me personally, the Z4 is more of a hoot.
Jaguar xkr, Porsche 996/ 997, corvette c6, Mustang cobra, srt 10 Viper, C6 corvette, late TVR Tuscan.
Eyyy
Eyyy!
Fabian Strøm eyyy my name is Fabian too
Car that reignited my love for driving was 2004 Corvette Z06. I was wonderfully balanced, but it commanded your respect, and if driven right it was so rewarding. Unfortunately, I was forced to sell it, life happens. But I will purchase another Corvette, maybe a newer one if it delivers the same analog driving experience.
2007 porsche cayman.
Cayman R or Boxter Spyder if you can find one. Might easier to spot a unicorn then find one for sale. If I had one I wouldn't sell it either.
I have owned both, and the Cayman S right before the Z4MC. The Porsche is an amazing car no doubt, however there is a zest to the BMW that can't be easily explained. The Cayman is almost too easy to drive.
Own a 2006 Porsche Cayman.....an awesome "slot car" handler that has a HUGE smile factor
I agree with you regarding the Cayman S. The Z4M is just really rewarding to drive.
mazam the 07 cayman won't be special as they made too many of them. They are dime a dozen.
Easy answer, C6Z.
svtsnake - its because they're a bunch of pretentious Manhattan millionaires. NYC is not a car town.
These guys know cars, they know what they are talking about. They like the Z4M Coupe becuase it is a vastly superior car.
Z4 was manufactured in South Carolina
Nice car review 80% talk 20% still pictures. These guys must love hearing themselves talk
S2000!!!!!!👍
or RX8 if you're not a middle-aged bald man :-D
I like the discussions at /Drive. It has so many car views and explores different cars keep up the good work
