Hey, you probably won't see this but I am a drummer in a small black metal band called orava. If you could give us a listen it would mean the absolute world. We are a 3 teens that decided we needed to share our music with anyone who will listen.
@@baby_bat666 hehe, I try my hardest to respond to every comment though it's difficult at points; I absolutely read every single one. I'll definitely give y'all a listen.
I think that Testament, Bolt Thrower, Carnifex, Dark Tranquillity, and the Melvins are all rated accordingly as they are rightfully praised and legendary in their respective subgenres. I do agree though that Zombieshark is underrated. I Will Destroy You, Myself, and Everything I've Ever Loved is an amazing cybergrind album.
Even though their sophomore album is considered to be one of the greatest pieces of death metal ever made, I still think Cryptopsy is hella underrated. Every extreme metal enthusiast at least knows of their album None So Vile, but that's it. An album by them that I think is completely underrated, is Whisper Supremacy. I love that album to death, especially because it is Cryptopsy at their most technically insane (that or Once Was Not). Another underrated band would be Dragged Into Sunlight, for almost obvious reasons. On the brutal death side, I would say the genre as a whole is genuinely underrated, especially when you dive deeper into it, such as bands like Ossuary (their Fat demo is visceral), Hidden Pride, and Rotting. Black Tongue is an underrated deathcore band, and it's criminal, because that band is heavy as FUCK. Also, a random ass one man project, is Massacred. They do Mortician better than Mortician, listen to Massacred. Anyway, that's my tangent
Intronaut: my favorite band of all time. Barely any one has heard of them and its a shame. They make a really good blend of prog and post sludge with a lot of good jazzy parts. Pallbearer: One of the best and most catchy doom bands out today, their new album is awesome. Wilderun: One of the best bands ive seen live they make orchestral melodeath with folky parts and occasional influence from black metal The band fulci makes some really great death metal (programmed drums i think which kinda sucks but wow are those riffs great) Agree on your takes (especially testament and the melvins)
Heavily agree with Pallbearer and especially Wilderun. Adored them so bad for awhile. I've heard Intronauts name but I've never particularly gotten a ton into them so I'll have to fix being part of the issue!!!!!!!
Second Melvins, I had a luck of getting into them early, so they I think contributed to my ability to open myself to other genres besides metal, also watched Tetsuo The Iron Man because someone used it for fan video for their song Pink Bat, wchich made me appreciate japanese cinema outside anime Speaking of Japan… Boris, band named after a Melvis song that truly fullfills this role as their offspring band, with just as maniacally steady release schedule if not more, while somehow still maintaining the quality Also second Zombieshark!, he should be up there with Igorrr in terms of popularity my pick for underrated would be Machine Head, Rage and Autopsy
@@TheMetalTempestYT It probably does, mainly because of how often they implement their beliefs into their lyrics and live shows, lol. But to me their incredible amount of talent makes up for that.
Some of these are hardcore/powerviolence but also plenty of metal ones Magrudergrind, cognizant, aeon, unmerciful, strangled, molotov solution, insult (the crust band), kungfu rick, piece of mind , havohej, aenigmatum
Testament is not so much underrated, Carnifex however, did have its credit. The Melvins also but not so much talked about this time it's actually the best bands I've heard in the last 7 Years or so but Anthrax would be so highly respected for influencing Nu-Metal and many more bands.
Devastation From Chicago Illinois is one of the most underrated metal band I think of. some really great 80's Death/Thrash. I highly recommend you check out their debut demo called A Creation Of Ripping Death. not to be confused with their second demo called A recreation of ripping death.
No band will ever be as underrated as Manilla Road were. If they were better at business and had a more mainstream production (which might have ruined em) they'd have been up there with Manowar and the greats. Also gonna throw out Cirith Ungol, Visigoth, Sumerlands, Crypt Sermon, the NWOTHM movement as a whole I guess is very very underrated. And that whole epic metal renaissance mainly comes from the influence of Mark Shelton and Manilla Road! They were truly the kings of the underground.. you know Candlemass wouldn't exist without them either? Mark was in the Black Dragon office when Leif sent in the first demo and they were signed by his recommendation. So so much of the non-extreme side of metal is held up by those Wichita legends. Also, PAGAN ALTAR, anybody? Greatest doom band of all time. Just sayin.
I would say probably my underrated picks would include bands such as the following: Diamond Construct: An Australian nu-metalcore band that mixes a lot of synth-y and trance-y production, turntables, the works. Their album released this year has been one of my favorites so far. The Red Chord: My goodness, in so many ways these guys were ahead of their time (Fun Fact: You can find a tour poster of theirs featuring Bring Me the Horizon as a supporting act back in the day, and I'm pretty sure the This Is What The Edge of Your Seat Was Made For EP was partially inspired by The Red Chord's debut album Fused Together in Revolving Doors). Deathgrind and deathcore-wise, they've been one of the most solid of the earliest deathcore era, alongside The Acacia Strain. Speaking of... The Acacia Strain: They basically seem to me like one of the godfathers of deathcore, especially from the influential 3750. Not only that, but they've kept innovating their sound throughout the years across all their many records, adding in doom metal influences, atmosphere, you name it! Trash Panda: A deathgrind band from Florida. It's subject matter? Raccoons. Specifically a somewhat dystopian trashy realm full of raccoons and filth... can you see why I think they're underrated? I could go on, but this list would start to get somewhat long if I did that.
One time I accidentally tapped on the band The Black Dahlia Murder on Spotify. But when I listened to the band I was amazed. Guess it was a happy accident
*Makes Underrated Metal Bands video* Lists some of the most famous extreme bands of all time, one of which even had a relationship with Games Workshop. Dude... just do some more digging, you've barely even touched the surface of how much Metal there is out there...
I've made QUITE a lot of videos on the underground but wanted to make this one more about popular bands that don't get the proper recognition they deserve in a lot of discussions.
There are thousands of good bands that exist and fade away in complete obscurity, all the blood, sweat and tears they put in gone to waste and most of the bands you mentioned are widely popular. In that context I wouldn't classify any of the bands u mentioned underrated
In reality I could have filled up a list of a hundred bands that deserve love in the underground or fringe and absolutely may. I tried to keep this list fairly surface to define bands that are widely loved but still perhaps get left out of conversations compared to contemporaries in their specific scene. I'd love to do a companion video of underrated underground bands soon!
You should check out an 80’s Swedish metal band named PROUD. I believe they actually just put out their 2nd album and it’s good as well. Their first album is named Fire Breaks the Dawn. Has some great guitar work.
That's fair! For me, I suppose every circle I'm in with extreme metal fans, I hear autopsy, obituary, cannibal corpse, possessed, death, morbid angel etc before I ever hear bolt thrower. :p

Saw another commenter explain their sound better than I could, so I’ll say that their newest LP is one of my albums of the year
The most underrated Death Metal band is Gorguts & Atheist, The most Death Thrash band is Demolition Hammer & Protector and The most Thrash Metal band is Stone
Holyarrow- really solid epic black metal from China with heavy metal influence. Genuinely don't understand how they're still so obscure. Vicarivs Filii Dei- I've never heard anything in black metal like their album Non Cogitant Sed Tamen Sunt. It feels like something that would've been made if black metal had existed during the Romantic period. The Ruins of Beverast- not as underrated or unknown as the others, but after listening to the whole discography knowing that everything is composed and performed by one person, I'm fully convinced that Alexander Von Meilenwald is a musical genius. Critically praised and has a decent following, but I rarely see them mentioned.
Extol, they're a Christian tech/prog/melo/whatevertheyfeellike death metal band that goes all the way back to the 90's but is rarely talked about for some reason. Would highly recommend their 2000 album Undeceived and their 2013 self-titled release.
I’d say that Riot are very underrated. They were one of the first American Metal bands, and they made a lot of amazing albums, but they never got big mostly because of bad management and a lot of lineup changes. Also, I’m not sure if they count as Metal, but UFO are underrated, since they were highly influential and especially when Michael Schenker was their guitarist, yet for some reason, they’re not as appreciated as bands such as Deep Purple, Scorpions or Black Sabbath…
I really wonder why Orden Ogan aren't bigger. They are imo the absolute peak of power metal. Whenever they drop a new single my first question is "How high up in the playlist does this go?" All of their stuff is fantastic. I honestly cannot name a mid Orden Ogan song, album, or LP; and I cannot recommend them more. Even my friends who don't listen to metal enjoy their stuff.
Personally, I've loved carnifex' newest album, i knew the band before but hadn't heard much of them and I was pleasantly surprised, definitely agree with a lot of these picks, also love the outfit in this video^^
Savatage immediately comes to mind. Criss Oliva was a guitar god and it's a shame he is never brought up in the same conversations with Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc.
I think this is the sole mention of *The Melvins* that did not explicitly include their massive appeal to one Kurt Cobain and what became Nirvana, tho it's true one could draw their influences all over -- yes I think Part 2 is justified in this case~
