Highly recommend Biomechanical, a prog/groove metal band that switches between a very Pantera sound to high pitched vocals with orchestral strings, they made two MVs, "Awakening" and "Empires of the World"
Imo nothing beats Loathe these days. I mostly listen to older stuff from the 90s/2000s like Opeth and System Of A Down that blend genres just like you're saying and those are the only bands that beat them for me. Wish Loathe would DROP THEIR FUCKING ALBUM ALREADY THOUGH Also what is your haircut called?
Lord Mantis’ fusion of black metal and sludge metal literally changed my life, the atmosphere is so crushing and oppressive and it feels *genuinely* perverse compared to “true” black metal, it feels sick and truly hateful of everything and everyone and I love it so damn much
Since you asked at the end, i totally like both. Bands that stick to the tried and true but do it WELL are insanely satisfying to hear, dying wish and not enough soace come to mind. Then there are bands like eskimo callboy or iwrestledabearpnce that are a great mixup to shake things up
Hybrid metal is awesome. And is a great way to get someone to try out genres they haven’t really given much thought to. I would’ve never batted Black Metal an eye if it weren’t for bands like Dimmu Borgir blending Black Metal with Symphonic Metal (my favorite metal sub genre). And now i discovered all these amazing black metal hybrids that i absolutely adore.
You echo my exact words. Not just with metal but with all genres. My most loved bands often fall under either alt rock or nu metal but those are often kinda loose labels and many of them really defy all genre labels.
On the topic of symphonic hybrids, Septicflesh. One of my alltime favorite death metal bands. Not only do they incorporate doom metal and even symphonic and classical music elements into their overall sound, but they do it so precisely that I'd dare call it perfect. They evolved their sound over the years with their start as a doom death band to full blown symphonic death metal legends. Plus I'm a sucker for mythology so the band intrigues me lyrically as well.
first extreme metal lp I remember buying is Elements, by Atheist. Jazz and thrash/death metal. I still wonder, to this day, if my open mind around music is either cause or effect of my early choices.
I have three examples among my favorites Alkaloid Generally progressive/technical death metal, but with occasional jazz break, or flamenco break, or reggae section, or ambient, or djent riffs, or a Rush-style chorus, whatever the fuck they want, and it always fits. Tardigrade Inferno "Dark cabaret metal" as they call it, and... yeah. Heavy riffs + carnival music? Hell yes. And they're from my home city! Uratsakidogi These guys went from grindcore to folk/'pazor' metal, to blackened hip-hop of all things, always delivering
I love bands that fuse different genres into one. I mean most of the bands I listen to were influenced by Mike Patton. Without Mike Patton there are no genres like Funk Metal, Nu-Metal/Rap Metal, Alternative Metal, or even Avant Garde Metal. I like some Avant Garde Metal bands like Diablo Swing Orchestra, Stolen Babies, Unexpect, and Pin Up Went Down.
I honestly think that Hellripper is creating and defining what could be called progressive blackthrash. before you never really saw 5+ minute songs and everything in that scene was "lol what if Motörhead and Crass had a kid and was adopted by Immortal" but James is pulling in influence from death metal, prog, and classic heavy metal on the last album (and apparently the new album)
Totally hybrid metal is cool i recommend IRIS Official for type of hybrid metal he super talented person you should definitely check him out he a solo artist that does Heavy metal and kinda death metal he been making music since 2008
I just can’t listen to a bunch of new bands because they don’t try anything new, bands like Ashenspire i adore because I have never heard a single metal record like Hostile Architecture
I'm sorry but if you actually want to discuss hybrid metal than you need to first actually understand what it means... Melo-death, Tech-death, etc, are not hybrid metal! There is no musical genre called melodic or technical(on their own that is) therefore Melo-death, tech-death, etc, simply can't be *hybrid* metal. Hybrid metal means part metal(of any metal genre) and part non metal(again of any non metal genre). Metalcore and Deathcore are absolutely hybrid metal because hardcore is not metal. Similarly Rap Metal is a hybrid metal sub-genre as rap music isn't metal. Nu-Metal is perhaps the most misunderstood and misused metal subgenre and you're no exception to this unfortunately. Nu-Metal is not hybrid metal, because Rap metal(Limp Bizkit being the classic example here) is not Nu-Metal but its own thing. Similarly incorporating elements from other genres like industrial or electronic doesn't necessarily make your music hybrid. In these cases it really depends on how much of these elements you incorporate. Industrial in particular as I'm not aware of Industrial being a stand alone musical genre(but that could simply be my ignorance) unlike Electronic for example which absolutely is its own musical genre. However most metal bands that incorporate electronic elements don't use them so much to actually be considered as 'Electronic metal' or whatever, which would have been a hybrid metal sub-genre. Now, about hybrid metal specifically, I don't hate its existence or anything and have no problem whatsoever with people who enjoy any of the hybrid-metal sub-genres. However I tend to dislike many of the common genres that are being inserted into metal. For example I absolutely hate rap, hip hop, electronic, pop music, etc, so naturally I don't really like Rap metal, Pop metal, etc. Now, some bands do incorporate some Rap/Pop elements without being full blown Rap/Pop metal, Disturbed being a great example for the Rap side, and while I don't always love David Dreiman's rapping I don't always hate it either. With that said, I'm fully aware that there might be some Rap/Pop/whatever songs out there that I will genuinely enjoy if I happen to hear them(and than go on actually listening to them), I would never go out of my way to seek them out as the probability of me randomly landing on a Rap/Pop/whatever song that I happen to like is pretty small if I just randomly search for Rap/Pop/whatever songs and since I don't know these genres deeply(because I absolutely don't care for them) my ability to find these potentially great(for my own taste that is) songs is incredibly small. The same is true for the hybrid metal sub-genres. My brother used to love Limp Bizkit back in the day, in particular their album 'Chocolate Starfish and a Hot Dog Flavored Water' and I absolutely hated that album and Limp Bizkit with a passion, Fred Durst in particular. I fully admit there might be some Limp Bizkit songs out there that I may actually enjoy, but I would never willingly put on a Limp Bizkit album just in the hope of finding such a song. The same is true for the rest of the Rap metal sub-genre, and those other hybrid sub-genres of genres I absolutely don't care for. Recommendations are a whole other thing, and if someone whose musical opinion I respect or has a similar musical preference to me, recommends a certain song to me from one of those genres/sub-genres I dislike than I will absolutely give it a shot and who knows, maybe I'll actually like it. However it's not like I'm running out of music to listen to that I actually like, so barring such a recommendation I will stick to the various genres/sub-genres that I actually do enjoy, which admittedly is mostly metal across its various sub-genres but also some classic rock(Beatles, Queen, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, etc) and the occasional miscellaneous song from a random musical genre that I happen to enjoy.

Imperial Trumphant does a good job in giving that suspenseful & ominous jazzy atmosphere & is able to blend that into their metal composition
Blackend Genres are perfect for this. Blackend Death Metal and Deathcore are fucking great. Also Mathcore uses elements of Jazz with hardcore.
I’ve been really big on bands that fuse shoegaze and metal recently and I just love hearing different combinations of genres in general
Imo nothing beats Loathe these days. I mostly listen to older stuff from the 90s/2000s like Opeth and System Of A Down that blend genres just like you're saying and those are the only bands that beat them for me. Wish Loathe would DROP THEIR FUCKING ALBUM ALREADY THOUGH

Bro same I LOVE loathe

My Dying Brides incorporation of darkwave and ambient opened me up to those genres
That's so dope! That's an underrated thing imo: a band you like bridging the gap into other genres for ya.

I love Hybrid Metal. We need more of it.

I've thought this for a while, that the best music is either a blend of multiple genres or music that isn't easily defined by genre labels.
You echo my exact words. Not just with metal but with all genres. My most loved bands often fall under either alt rock or nu metal but those are often kinda loose labels and many of them really defy all genre labels.

Not much into genre mixing myself, I think mixing genres is easy, creating new sound, new subgenres is the difficult and more valuable part
I have three examples among my favorites
Alkaloid
Generally progressive/technical death metal, but with occasional jazz break, or flamenco break, or reggae section, or ambient, or djent riffs, or a Rush-style chorus, whatever the fuck they want, and it always fits.
Tardigrade Inferno
"Dark cabaret metal" as they call it, and... yeah. Heavy riffs + carnival music? Hell yes. And they're from my home city!

Lol, hybrid metal reminded me of when I recommended Dead Silence Hides My Cries.
I rap and sing over slam metal. 😮
@MiasmicBlight. You should like the band Gut, they are a Goregrind/Pornogrind band but have some tracks with rapping in them.
@@NuMetalfan1996 I’ll check that out!
