The original stuff is so old at this point, anything foam just crumbles to dust. The pics for the two parts on Pelican match in texture… may be worth a quick call to them to double check if the difference is common and that the correct items were shipped. Either way, it looks way better now!
My ‘88 has no insulation and no trace of adhesive or anything being installed prior, but the parts catalogue shows that the ‘88 models were included. Looking at about 10 different ‘88s on BaT, about half have it and half don’t. Strange!

It was so bad. Every time I open the hood, there was clumps of hood insulation debris everywhere. It appears that they sent the correct parts (and i should add that i did find Germany stamped on the other peel off backing, just in white so it wasn’t as visible)
These pads are perfectly fine for my “driver” car but I wanted others to be aware of the issue just in case they’re going for the “concours perfection”
I was thinking about removing the pads to save weight but I found that they weigh almost nothing, which was surprising because dynamat, etc weighs so much. I also found quite a few stories on old forums of hood paint damage from heat on cars where it was removed.
I guess if your car has been fine then it was just a bunch of wives tales about the hood paint.

@@tims_4x4_garage LOL! Yeah, the paint is fine on mine. The underside is a little dirty, but I haven’t tried cleaning it extensively, maybe more impactful on the turbos that run hotter. The parts catalogue has it labeled as “sound barrier,” so it seems like it was intended more for noise reduction than heat protection.

@@NC944er well I wasted a hundred bucks. Lol. JK, something had to be done under there due to the constant deterioration of the existing padding and that was the best solution

@@tims_4x4_garage Nah man, not a waste. You can put yourself in the 1% of owners who care enough to replace it. 👍🏼

Nice job! I have the same car and I’m about to replace mine and was wondering did you use any contact cement or just press in place with the adhesive on the new insulation pads? I bought the same pads as you from Pelican.

The pads have peel and stick adhesive already on them. whatever they use is very good and heat resistant. My pads are still sticking perfectly 8 months later 🤙🏼

Great, a lot easier than what I was thinking. Using 3m contact adhesive and removing the hood to lay flat overnight. Just press on and forget…nice!

@@rons944 it’s a little difficult to line up such a large piece “upside down” but I did it. I was thinking about removing the hood but I did not have to.

Thank you! I’ll get my son to help me put them in place. Thanks again.
