    Just a note on the different sizing: The Tulip etimo rose set (also the solid pink set) and the Clover Amour have different sizing. The Clover Amour are American sizing, and the Tulip Etimo rose are Japanese sizing, so the mm sizing is different, at least in the smaller hooks. Also, the Etimo rose set does not have an "f" hook. The Etimo Rose set contains the following mm hooks: 2.0, 2.2, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0. The Clover Amour contains 2.25, 2.75, 3.25, 3.5, 3.75, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, and 6.0. I don't know how much difference this info will make to many crocheters, if any, as we do not all crochet to the same gauge anyway, but I wanted to note the difference all the same. The gray handled, gold shaft set of Tulip Etimo does come in American sizing that correspond to the Clover Amour sizing.

    I live in the United States and only use metric because I once made a blanket on a g 4.00 and lost it bought another one from a different brand and didn't realize they were g 4.50 so after a oddly shaped blanket I started using metric only.I'm happy to say I've never had a problem since.

    • @SpiritBear12

      Exactly! 4mm is 4mm no mater what company makes the hook. The letter sizes however can vary quite a bit and is not an accurate system of hook size.
      I'm also in the U.S.

    • @vegangelist

      Absolutely! The entire lettering system is goofy and doesn't quantify a dang thing!

    This is just my opinion, we all have one. I have been using the gray Tulip Etimo hooks for years. I love them, you can definitely crochet longer. I love how smooth the hooks are and the gray set does have the American Letters as well as the size on them. I love them so much I actually bought the pink set about a year and a half ago. The difference between the gray and the pink is the sizes. The left side of the pink set is the smaller hooks. They go from 2 to 6. in size. The gray set goes from 3,25 to 8. Since I have been using these sets, I prefer them over all others. If you crochet a lot, it's what I do to make a living, I would highly recommend them. They are sleek, fit perfectly in your hand and I can crochet 8 hours a day. I have used Clover, I don't particulary care for them but agree with Maggie, it's just a matter or choice and of course the cost. Sherry

    This may have already been noted but it's A-M-O-U-R not A-'R'-M-O-U-R. Amour as in love in French not armour as in what a a knight would wear. They are pronounced differently.

    Thanks for the review. I am hoping to get the Tulip set this weekend.
    I guess they can't put the American letters on them because other countries in the world also buy them and they don't need those letters.

    My US version of the Etimo hook set with the gold aluminum is amazing. The hooks are so lightweight and with my arthritis, is an absolute pleasure to hook with! The pointier head makes a difference as well. I’m going to buy the lavender set of smaller hooks with the US sizes next. Tulip needles are also superior!

  • @rygregory
    @rygregory Год назад +1

    I definitely prefer the Clover Amour hooks. I have bigger hands and I feel the Clovers have slippier shaft with the brushed aluminum than my Tulips do.
    However, I don’t know how credible this review is since she kept on calling them “armors” from the beginning. How hard is it to say (Clover) Amour?

  • @AllenArt64
    @AllenArt64 5 месяцев назад

    I have the Tulip Etimo Reds and the Clover Amour hooks. The Clovers are definitely the superior hooks, especially if you're a knife holder. If you're a pencil holder, then the Tulips may or may not work out better for you. What I find with the Tulip hooks is that the chin of the hook sticks out just far enough to snag the previous row sometimes (I'm a knife holder) and cause pulls. The chin of the clover hook is tucked in more toward the shaft. The Clovers glide better as well IMVHO.

    I have two sets of the clover amour, I love that the hooks are in colors, I know that the brown is my J hook and the Green is my I. I love the smoothness of the hooks and the grip, I have some wrist issues, so the bigger handle is better for me. In fairness i have not used the tulip hook, but will buy one to compare.

    Hi. I tried the hooks aluminum, metal and clover. Definitely I prefer crochet needles Clover

  • @user-jw4zr2tj3x

    I like both. As you know, Clover is the most popular and the biggest company for knitters and crocheters in Japan and they invented lots of nice things such as Takumi knitting needles. On the other hand, Tulip is not as big as Clover but it was originally a Japanese sewing needles company and the sewing operators have been worshipping it because of the quality of its needles. So Tulip needles must be super nice and durable as its price.

    The metric numbers are the same everywhere, so you really woukd not need to write letters on your pretty pink Tulips... Just keep a conversion chart handy.
    I use Susan Bates metal hooks, and love them.. My hands are very small, so I don’t feel the need for hooks with any kind of handle..
    Thanks for the review.
    03-12-20
    I have switched from my beloved Susan Bates hooks to Clover hooks... I have been using my Clovers for a while now, snd love, love, love them, They fit my small hands perfectly, and since I have serious vision issues, the fact that each size has its own assigned color is very helpful. Furthermore, the sizes are actually carved into the handles... They will never disappear!

    I don't understand why these crochet hooks sets are so expensive?

    • @vegangelist
      @vegangelist 5 лет назад +2

      I got my pink tulip etimo set on Amazon for about 90.
      Ten hooks for 90 is 9 dollars per hook. For a premium, amazing hook, that's not expensive at all. Especially when you consider how comfy they are!
      On top of that, you get the gorgeous case, plus scissors and needles.
      Good luck finding any other premium hooks for that cheap.
      Clover hooks are really nice but they aren't as premium as tulip.

  • @Makapida

    Letter sizes are mainly used in the States. Their conversion in mm comes from the size in imperial, which gives in between sizes compared to mm set. Convenient if you are a metric user...

    is there a difference between the pink and the gray tulip hooks?

    • @maggiescrochet1522
      @maggiescrochet1522  9 лет назад

      Hi Luanne,
      I believe the only difference in the hooks is the color! The pink ones are the "Rose" line. On our website, we sell both colors as single hooks and in sets. Hope this helps!

    • @jordynlynn8811
      @jordynlynn8811 6 лет назад +2

      Yes there is. The larger sizes (g-j) are the same sizes in both sets, but in the smaller sizes, the sizes are slightly different. In the pink set, the mm sizes are 2.0, 2.2, 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5, whereas in the grey set they are 2.25, 2.75, 3.25, 3.5, and 3.75. They are close in mm sizing, but not exact. The only one that is exact is the 3.5 (American E). There is no "F" in the rose set. We all crochet differently as far as gauge, so it may or may not make much of a difference. Hope this helps.

    • @vegangelist
      @vegangelist 5 лет назад

      I don't notice a difference between the two (other than that the grey set has American sizing and the pink does not) but a friend who also has both sets (pink and gray) swears that they feel slightly different (she had been using the grays for awhile before she got the pinks too).
      I started with the pink, love them, and haven't noticed the gray ones being much different.

    Armour is the English spelling of armor... So it is a real word. Ever heard of knight in shining armor/ armour? But, yeah, the lady made a mistake in pronouncing "amour." Humans make mistakes.

      Hi Stefanie,
      The actual hook part is metal. The handles are an elastomer compound - a little softer than plastic, but a little harder than rubber. Pretty much everyone I know finds them very comfortable - hope that helps!

      bleu silver have to agree to disagree. I have both sets and I can say, emphatically, that they are NOT the same.
      The biggest difference, for me, on top of the fact that the tulips are SMOOTHER, is the the handles are different. Clovers are longer but the tulips are more ergonomic (because they have a thumb indent, which drops your thumb into a more natural position).
