Spader and Shatner - each won back to back Emmys for playing the same character on two different shows - Shore and Crane, on the Practice and Boston Legal.
James Spader is just wonderful in everything he does, the Blacklist being no exception. However it's right up there with shows like Game of Thrones that just ran out of steam and story line.. The fact that Red turned out to be Elizabeth's mother is just far too unbelievable.. The show jumped the shark when it started down that path.. and it could have been one of the greats.. it was up until that point. As was GOT until the last two seasons..
James Spader is such a great actor and very INTELLIGENT person who deserves all the award giving bodies there is!!! Just watch the Boston Legal Supreme Court scene, NOBODY could ever have done that any better unless you are smart like him!!! PERIOD.
What brilliant actors and brilliant shows were those, what time. Simply amazing. Now here in 2020 when the world is worse then it ever was these shows are what keeps some of us going so thank you for that.
This is one of my top 3 favorite series of all time. I've probably rewatched it half a dozen times, and it never gets old; it just ages like fine wine. The bond that Alan and Denny shared over the arc of the show seemed serious and heartfelt. I always enjoyed coming home from work late at night and watching Denny and Alan wrap up their day on the balcony, sipping expensive scotch and smoking fine cigars. The running gag about the sleepovers always cracked me up.
@@guyrandom6151 I know; it's like how Michael Richards from "Seinfeld" didn't get along with his fellow actors because they were always "blowing his takes"... Some of the bloopers would be funny if he wasn't so angry. 😄
James we love you dude!!! Thank you for potraying interesting people in TV and film. A great storyteller. And for giving props to your parents and your girl. Very very important!!!
I loved Spader in Boston Legal, but I recall watching this and thinking there's no one that gave a performance like Ian MacShane as Al Swearengen on Deadwood.
James Spader as Alan Shore is up there with Larry Hagman as JR Ewing as the best male characters in TV history along with Mark Harmon as LeRoy Jethro Gibbs and David Caruso as Horatio Caine.
Ian McShane got robbed. Biggest emmy snub. Spader is great but Mcshane's performance as Al Swearengin was the best i've ever seen. He should have won 3 in a row.
I agree, but it's McShane's fault he submitted a weak (for Deadwood standards) episode. He should have went with one where he was passing kidney stones, even though he had no dialogue in it.
Id say Hugh Laurie goes over James Spader but Kiefer is done with man, The Jack Bauer stuff is done.. it's basically all he has to do is run around and say WHERE IS THE BOMB!! and at some point he has to kneel down and almost being killed and the president to pardon whoever is doing it :) James Spader however is hilarious!...
Spader is funny but this best actor in a drama series, and while Spader has done some fine dramatic work, I've always thought that Boston Legal was nominated in the wrong category. The show is most definitely a comedy. Sure, it sometimes had some dramatic moments, but it's definitely mostly comedy. Desperate Housewives was nominated in the comedy category and Boston Legal is as much a comedy as that show. And I couldn't disagree with you more on Sutherland. Jack Bauer is such a great part and is always richly written and Sutherland is incredible in the part. It's the role of his career and I think he deserved to win every time he was nominated. He finally would win a year later, deservedly so, but he always deserved it. Although I REALLY love Hugh Laurie as well. And it's a crime he never won.
I wouldn't say that Boston Legal is a comedy, a comedy is Big bang theory, Boston Legal goes under drama because it has far more drama then it does comedy although Denny Crane makes appearances funny. The reason he would win Emmy would be his amazing portrayal as Alan Shore, there is a reason people love this character. Just watch the season 1 finale when he goes for the State of Texas for a man on deathrow, his performance is nothing but brilliant, his acting is as if this is real!. I am not saying Kiefer's character isn't amazing it is, I love 24 and he rightfully got his Emmy year after him as you mentioned. Kiefer is a good actor, I even loved him in Phone Booth and there he is only a voice and I guess they both won because they deserved it, James Spader just before Kiefer, how Hugh Laurie didn't win an Emmy is beyond me because "Differential Diagnosis".. believe me he deserved a spot at some point. He did win two Golden Globes though.. But of all this I can't say Boston Legal should be in a Comedy genre...
movieman82us I love James Spader but poor Hugh Laurie never stood a chance! Deserved at least an Emmy. First it was Spader robbing his Emmies, then it was Cranston. Although I've got to admit, as much as a House fan I was, you can't compare his performance to Cranston's.
Yes but Spader deserves it now for his work on The Blacklist; he works I believe mostly with younger or newer actors (some who were intended to be minor characters or were supposed to be killed off but made it seasons on-often in part due to Spader-the show without Spader is unimaginable- or those who aren't well, simply as good.

I started on the blacklist, and I graduated to Boston Legal.
I love James Spader. He has a great voice, terrific comic timing. Just the best at what he does!
He is so nice and suave when we met him on the set of White Palace. We talked for like at least a half hour. He was amazing in Jack's Back 1988.

Wow...who knew that James Spader did standup comedy? Still pulls it off with that deadpan, piercing delivery. Great actor.
You said the magic word " piercing delivery" no doubt he's also charismatic too!
Boston Legal my guy.
Stand up comedy is his thing, go watch his jimmy fallon show,

James Spader is always wonderful to watch and listen. Intelligent, sensitive and in possession of a great sense of humour.
He is SO MUCH better even in Blacklist. No one else could be Reddington.
Difficult to be any better as James Spader is as Alan Shore in Boston Legal. Just incredible. I love him in Blacklist as well though.
He is the ultimate perfection on Blacklist
I cant agree more RRR is too clasic of a character❤️
James Spader. great actor!
James love yah - he is so hilarious and has tons of charisma.
Given all the strong contenders at that time, this was quite an honor.
