Thanks for doing these videos. The quality (and quantity!) of these new releases continues to impress. Who knew that the c64's brightest era would be twenty years after its discontinuation?
the c64 scene is really insane.. im suprised every time what is being made and released. I love puzzle bobble, looks great, i think even Taito would be surprised. I doubt they could have done it any better. Lots of high quality games to check out....good times, cheers.
I wasn’t sure how viewers would respond to pixel art and demos, but it appears to be going down well and does complete the video magazine feel that I was hoping to produce.
Puzzle Bobble on the C64 is something I really hoped to see back in the day, but in 1994 there was no chance of such a high profile port. Cool to see that is coming along really well, in the tradition of great Taito conversions to the breadbin. Also, now the C64 has a game in common with the Neo Geo..how cool is that?
Puzzle Bobble has certainly not been rushed and the results show. This port is so faithful of the Neo Geo version that it even includes that 'glitchy green' screen that many Neo Geo games seem to display before the game appears on screen.
@@RetroGamerNation I've been around since the c64 scene started, my favourite demo is by Borderzone - it has an amazing sid that's one of my all time favourites. Pouet.net is one of my favourite sites to visit
I like the looks a monstro giganto. The things you can do with petscii is amazing. When we got a PET back in the 70s, it had no graphics, except the petscii or the very blocky 80x50 pixel monochrome. A game like monstro giganto would be very much possible for a PET, imagine if that was released at that time.... Great stuff !
I was impressed how good Oyup was a few months back and I am even more impressed with Puzzle Bobble more so because I don't think it was ever ported to an 8-bit system and this version is probably far closer to the original than we probably would have gotten if an officially licensed version made it's way out in the 90s.
Ghostbusters looks like it came straight out of 1984. I guess these are the limitations of the homebrew scene. For every Sam's Journey and Soul Force there are 100 games like Space Firehawk and Spider Fighter.
Fair observation. We are getting more and more developers doing their first C64 project and I think it is important to include the non AAA games as well for a rounded representation of the current C64 scene.
Having that 1984 look and feel has a definite nostalgic retro appeal, though. At least here in the USA, most of us had moved on to 16/32 bit computers in the mid-late 80s. The look and feel of 1984-1985 C64 games are the nostalgic "sweet spot" for us.
I mean ... look at the enduring popularity of Bruce Lee and Jumpman, two computer games with least common denominator graphics with the Atari 8-bits. They have blocky low resolution 4 color background graphics for no reason other than it saved enough memory to be able to run on an Atari 400. Regardless of the original reasons, that's part of the iconic look and feel.
Yes. Personally I was active in the C64 scene in the early '90s. It was the era of Creatures, Last Ninja 3, Midnight Resistance, Turrican 2, Turbo Charge, etc, so for me this is the standard that I'm used to. Of course, I understand the limitations of the homebrew scene. The people who make the games aren't professional programmers hired by software houses that make a living out of this. They are hobbyists. However, there are times when I wish for a little more ambition. Thankfully, occasionally a game like Knight 'n' Grail pops up and satisfies that hunger.

46 years since the 6502 was designed by Chuck Peddle (r.i.p.)
41 years since the first c64 was sold.
(These numbers make it even more impressive)
Wow, I love how Hangman Tree (Fabs of Hokuto Force) handles HIRES mode color clash. Absolutely brilliant!

9:38 That music sounds like something I would have expected from the Amiga, not the Commodore 64!
Well I guess this is my favorite retro show now. You've found a great magazine format by mixing in current demos between programme blocks!

@@RetroGamerNation Demos as intermissions is a great idea. They're coming out in droves on Csdb and this is the perfect way to show them off.
@@RetroGamerNation The mixed content was a well decision. Altogether it's a very polished format.

Thank you for your hard work and great videos :)
Appreciate the feedback, glad you enjoy the content.
@@RetroGamerNation I very much like how you include art from the demoscene
That is really good to know. I have grown a strong appreciation for pixel art of late but i am never quite sure how broad of an interest it is.

looking forward t Puzzle Bubble, although we have had the clone Monster Buster for a while.
Muddy racers looks cool, another one to get hold of.
Puzzle Bobble on C64 = amazing.
Amazing: wish I had these games back in the '80!

Monstro Giganto will be the featured game title for April.
Great job with Puzzle Bobble Bas - once again thanks for the access.

Muddy Racers reminds me of Skid Mark's. Nice.
puzzle bobble... oh man .. i loved it on playstation, love the bubble bobble game on c64 ... and now this.. :-)
Puzzle Bobble? holy moly..one of my faves on the neo geo...but its on the c64..amazing :)
and its going to be free!
@@RetroGamerNation I'd happily pay for it tbh but if it's free, wow!!! Really enjoying these monthly updates btw :)

@@IsaacKuo ...and exactly this was my intention when making Space Firehawk.
And, well, okay, it actually IS my first C64 project ;-)

so cute Puzzle bobble!
Thx for your great work. I'm looking forward for next video. :)
Thank you, i am currently sitting on a number of games waiting for release and cant wait to share them.
Another great video. The only way I can think if improving them...make them longer. 😇
Great video,thank you
I'd like to see a news update about Andreas Larsson's Eye of the Beholder port
Not a problem, I have made a note to ask Andreas about the status of EOTB towards the end of March and I will provide an update in April's Round Up
Great video as ever!
Wow! One on One with new graphic? 🤯 I want to smash the basket. 😂❤️
I Saw a Newest "pbobble.c64" port!
Great Video 👍 thank you
No pshisical for puzzle bubble?
No official physical version - mainly due to legality reasons as this is not an official port.
Gameplaywise Tiny Quest looks a bit generic. I guess it's still better than most old C64 games.
The twist with TQ is that you only have about 8 seconds to complete each screen and the controls are responsive. It is really one to try out.
