    Timo's Castle looks great! And that Fairlight demo is jaw-dropping, esp. its art style and music.

    The PCB Ghost art 😮 several of the others are absolutely stunning too. Wow.

    Breadbox looks fun but the lag is a shame. Really enjoyed playing Timo's Castle and Broken Mirror this month.

    breadbox seems more of a novelty thing than anything really useful. Cheers for keeping us all updated.

      I tend to agree with you here. I can’t say that I have been tempted to play around with it any further since the recording of the video.

    Shift is an amazing idea. Very creative and fun to play as well. I also loved Timo's Castle, partly because I played a lot of Henry's House as a kid.
    If Tony had more contemporary jump mechanics I'd be willing to pay 10 euros for it, but as it is I don't think it's worth it.
    Great video again. Thanks a lot for the work!

      Thank you, things tend to slow down C64 activity wise over the northern hemisphere summer period and I do want to ensure each C64 Round Up contains a certain level of quality content. Admittedly, time availability and motivation is not what it used to be for me either and I will only work on producing a video when I am enjoying doing so rather than feeling that I 'have to do it'. Hope you enjoy your upcoming summer.

    Thanks for the video! So, I also picked up breadbox and it works much better on my gaming laptop with much less controller lag. Timo's Castle looks rather fun and Tony reminds me quite a bit of Montazuma's Revenge. I might have to pick both of those up.

    Breadbox is a good idea in principle but I feel charging for an frontend that has very noticeable input lag even in early access seems like something of a joke. How this fancy frontend manages just make C64 emulation look like a difficult task I don't know and it's minimum requirements seem to suggest it is currently really poorly optimised. It's a nice idea but I can't see too many people using it beyond curiosity.

    I like how c64 pixel-art is getting more petscii! if the quorra portrait is done by hand (and not by converter of some sort) it's creative in a whole new way of doing gfx!
    The l337 demo is something else. The soundtrack, gfx and story are out of this world (notice that sounds that simulates the talking, even the meow from the cat!), and then there's the coding showoff! Just can't get enough!

  • @taakelur
    @taakelur 4 месяца назад +3

    Just wondering, what tools do graphic artists use to make pixel art today? Is it just a preference, like some do it in, say, Photoshop and convert it, and others use a dedicated pixel art tool? If they do it in Photoshop and convert it, is that considered cheating?

    That FLT demo was fantastic. I loved the design of the characters, the storyline and the humour. Timo's Castle looks lovely too. Brightly colourful without being garish, and full of neat, clear detail.
    I hope the July edition includes details of the new Indiegogo campaign for brand new breadbin C64 cases. The cases will be available various colours, including crystal clear, blue, green, black, white and purple.

    • @RetroGamerNation
      @RetroGamerNation  3 месяца назад +1

      I backed the breadbin case, have no idea what colour to choose. Not sure if the campaign will still be going by the time I put out the next video in August. I have a neat addon to showcase in that video but very little else at this stage.

      I think many who follow the scene do get weary of constant re-promotion of upcoming titles. I think devs think this is a good thing to do mainly because it appears that it works for Sarah Jane Avory and her C64 titles, but this is more to do with her having a super loyal fan base rather than something we all want.

    • @RetroGamerNation

      It's the Hi-res mode that makes the image sharp and you can only use 2 colours in hi-res, 1 colour for foreground and another for background.

      I was really surprised that Breadbox required such high spec machines to run smoothly. I am equally surprised that the dev decided to pursue Breadbox considering that it probably holds the record for one of the worst performing Indiegogo crowd funding campaigns (it only achieved 1% of its target).
