Hi there. Anyone of you's remember the game where you play as a brown hooded mage, gathering components to make a spell? There was an ominous music score, and you had to travel from screen to screen.
For me the best C-64 game by far was M.U.L.E. played in the "Expert mode". It had so much dependencies, the game is an exercise in supply and demand economics involving competition between up to four players (2 Joysticks / 2 keyboard). There’s some great games in the 100 but also some glaring omissions I think. Some games I love like commando don’t make the list but I guess it’s not everyone’s cuppa tea!
What's amazing about this "top 100" list is that there were so many games made for the C64 (over 5000) that even this list is missing DOZENS of my all-time favorite titles. :)
Best part about C64 games was how they easy were to copy from your friends. I had a shoebox full of floppy disc bootleg games. But oh Lord, the worst was the cassette tape drive. It took like 9 hours to load Beach Head.
Gotta tell ya as a seasoned C64 user (52 years old rn) there was only 3 games in your list that I rate. Elite (yes I am, thank you), Yosagi Youimbo, and Turrican II. I can whip Turrican II with 17 lives remaining. But then again, I'm an old bastard with plenty of practice :P Keep on doing what you're doing. Peace brother.
Interesting list. I loved the Turrican games and Airborne Ranger. Some of my favourites I don't see on your list include: Batman The Movie Spike in Transylvania Star Paws Hero Quest Shadow of the Beast Shadow Dancer Batman. It was two games in one. James Pond 2: Robocod Dan Dare Aliens
Gauntlet, Master of Magic, Galaxions, and Kongo Kong, were better than some of these. 😁 Good to see Defender of the Crown, Wizball, Head Over Heels, Ghosts 'n' Goblins, Soy vs Spy, Archon, and Denaris (or Katakis as they call it) made the list. I've never even seen any of the others, but I do remember seeing the boxes in the shops for a few, though.
Some of the omissions here are almost criminal, there’s so many games I could (and will eventually when I’ve finished the new video) list that deserve to be in a top 100 way more. However this top 100 is compiled using the popular website Lemon64 where you can vote on your favourite games, this list requires a minimum 100 votes and be released while the C64 was still being sold. Gauntlet is one of my absolute favourite games ever!
Thanks mate, yeah this 100 is based on the popular website lemon 64’s top one hundred that’s been voted for by the general public. Stipulations were that the game had to have a minimum 100 votes and of had an official release. There’s some games missing here that would definitely make my personal list like commando etc but working on a personal top 50 which I think blows these games away!
It's a good collection, clearly everyone has their own. I would have removed something and inserted Guardian (best 8-bit conversion of Defender), Encounter by Novagen and Space Rogue.
There are some glaring omissions for me, commando being one that immediately springs to mind, these are in order as voted for on the Lemon64 website with a minimum 100 votes. My personal top 50 would be vastly different! Guardian, class game and should definitely be in there!
Great list and a lot of titles I still remember. Just thought by myself which were the 10 games on C64 that come to my mind at first. Power at Sea, Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken, Defender of the crown, Archon, the last ninja, International Karate, Winter Games, Gunship. All spread over your list (except power at sea - or i missed it ^^)
As always an excellent video mate and I know you put a lot of effort in, some fantastic games in there but I bet if they added modern releases it would look very different.
Ah thanks Martin for the kind words! Well, next I want to do my personal top fifty. It will be a lot different to this with way more newer games included. Problem is so many new games are coming out at the minute it’ll almost be instantly out of date be release haha!
Alas you did not miss it. It’s a glaring omission in my opinion, one of my most nostalgic games ever and seems bizarre that it didn’t get enough votes to make the top 100 C64 games. Crazy.
A decent list. Played quite a few of them. Definitely missing Retrograde, a few movie tie-ins and perhaps Ghouls'n'Ghosts, Hanmerfist & Blood Money or Dominator. Turbo Outrun at 99 is a shock! Guess we have to make room for those point & click adventures.
Totally agree there’s some absolutely stone cold classics missing from this 100. This specific top 100 is voted for by the website Lemon64 with a minimum of 100 votes. My personal top 100 is way different and would include way less point n clicks! Gonna try and finish my personal top 50 but it’s just fining the time
1. Stroker 2. Sam fox strip poker 3. Sex games 4. Girls they want to have fun 5. Laser squad 6. Airborne ranger 7. Hostages 8. Skool daze 9. Leaderboard golf 10. Terrormolinos
Hi Steve! Got to agree KS2 is way low, I live making my own courses in the editor! This list is compiled from the Lemon64 site where games must have a minimum 100 votes to be counted. These are in order by their rating on there mate.
The hours and hours I spent creating tracks for Racing Car Destruction Set… A lot of the best games I liked were because of the phenomenal music in them, like Iron Lord (almost all I gravitated to I subsequently found out were composed by Jeroen Tel from Maniacs of Noise)
I have to completely agree, my nostalgia for the C64 is fuelled by the music in these games, people like Jeron Tel, Martin Galloway, Rob Hubbard, Ben Daglish, Chris Huelsbeck, Matt Grey to list just a few embedded the Sid chip into my DNA! Amazing times
@@Retro_B8 I got into composing music using trackers on the C64 like Future Composer which resulted in knowing hexadecimal too well but never produced anything notable since the sound digitiser cartridge our group got was destroyed by our main coder experimenting on it.
Ah it must be amazing to have the knowledge to actually create something on the C64, sadly I managed to write a few lines of basic but that’s the limit of my skills. Is the digitiser cartridge rare hardware?
@@Retro_B8 Super rare iirc, we never got another one and the group disbanded very soon after losing that one. I just located a Christmas carol medley I did aged 14 for an "Aussie Xmas" demo in 1990. Again, not notable but relevant to the season 😁 It's on the CSDB uncredited as "/DEMOS/UNKNOWN/Unknown_136.sid"
I wish i still had my 128 and 64 with all my games. Stealth Fighter and Gunship were my 2 fav's. Followed close by Raid on Bungling Bay and Red Storm Rising. Last Ninja, Spy Hunter so many games i had back then. Stealth Fighter and Gunship u could not play without the keyboard overlays so many controls lol.

I heard that M.U.L.E. was available on Nintendo game system when they were popular. Any info on that? Or any info on it being available on other gaming platforms (old or new)?
It’s a mixture of my own gameplay, some footage may be from RUclips but if so they’re credited and also footage donated from other RUclipsrs that I speak to etc. I’ve never had a copyright strike for this video so I don’t think any is copyright, especially as these games are generally well over 30 years old. Hope that helps
@@Retro_B8 yes very very helpful thank you so much! I am thinking of doing short music videoclips with commodore games extracts (vertical cut outs). Would you be willing to share some of this material or is it possible to download just here? THANK YOU!
@user-lr2ny2pj9u use whatever you need from here I’ve no problem with that whatsoever, be great to get a tag so I can watch as I love C64 SID music! Some composers of C64 music do unfortunately claim ownership of music they composed for games made years ago but I’m not so sure which ones and it seems random if they do or don’t. Look forward to hopefully seeing your video!
@@TheUndertaker19 no worries mate, it’s actually been remixed as well I used it for the intro music, I think the link is somewhere in the description. They really were mate, great memories!
Did I hit a nerve? Somebody seems a bit rattled. That was clearly a typo and you know what I meant. Omitting Wonderboy in Monsterland is actual cringe.
Kings Bounty (the true predecessor of the HOMM series) Impossible Mission 2 (much more better than the first) Street Rod (the best car tuning and racing game) North & South Sim City Supremacy (the amazing space strategy a nd the best music) Commando All missing? OMG. But all retard shoot em up game here. :) Poor boy...

Supremacy I adored albeit on the Amiga but completely agree with commando. I love that game and it missed out by 0.04 which is so close!
@@Retro_B8 wasn't a game. You basically typed in what you wanted it to say and it would say it. That's it. Groundbreaking at the time because computers didn't talk then.

People may want it, but it feels degrading in a way... Your best game which showed of a system, only having it reduced it's graphics well after it made history..
There's a lot of traditional games here, but this list is missing some technically impressive games like BOFH, which despite difficult controls is definitely an easy top 10. Did you intentionally omit games outside commercial life of C64?
Hi, no not at all. This top 100 is based on a voting system used on Lemon64 with the only stipulation being the game must have a minimum number of 100 votes.
@@rootbeer666 I’m making a video about a top 50 of my personal favourites, it’s vastly different from this one. Honestly some of the votes here on the top 100 are plain bad!

Instant thumbs down when I saw Uridium was last on the list. I fast fowarded to the top 20 and realised that this was an American orientated list, ignoring the output of the superior UK Software houses. In the 80s, Ultimate, Melbourne House, System 3, Gremlin Graphics, Ocean, Odin, Mastertronic etc churned out so many amazing games that put the US Software to shame. Maniac Mansion, Ultima series ARE excellent, but you should have concentrated on games that really shone on the C64 and were written specifically to take advanatge of its capabilities.
Ah that’s a shame but thanks for voting one way or the other. Just to note this isn’t my personal top 100 as it would be vastly different as I’m also from the UK. Thanx for the Video
I don't see Last Ninja 3, Flimbo's Quest, Newzealand Story, Vendetta, The Untouchables, Hudson Hawk, Yie Ar Kung-Fu, Driller, 3D pool, R-Type, Retrograde... Maybe next time!😃
So this 100 is purely based on the very popular C64 website Lemon64 where everyone can vote for their favourite games etc. stipulations are, must have at least 100 votes and that’s it! The lowest score here is 7.95 which believe it or not is just a little higher (with 100 votes) than all the games listed although personally a few of yours would make my personal top 100, which I’m working on!
Gladly agree with most of the titles mentioned.
I vote that "Mercenary Escape from Targ" needs to be on the list.
There’s some great games in the 100 but also some glaring omissions I think. Some games I love like commando don’t make the list but I guess it’s not everyone’s cuppa tea!
Not played mercenary escape from targ, I’ll add it to my to play list!
One of my all-time favorite games. Hope you'll like it. There is also a very good, true to the original, port to PC.
What's amazing about this "top 100" list is that there were so many games made for the C64 (over 5000) that even this list is missing DOZENS of my all-time favorite titles. :)
Nostalgic nice to see many games I played back then on cassette tape on my C64. Used to play Ultimate series
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it!
Fantastic list to show the kids what I played as a kid
My favourite game on the C64 was Blitz. It was a simple game but great for hand and eye coordination and timing.
I remember it well, great game. Simple but addictive!
Getting actually emotional watching this! 😱🎮😭
I hope in a good kind of way, sometimes nostalgia can be very overwhelming
@@Retro_B8 can remember opening the Hollywood pack C64 on Xmas morning, one of the few memories from simpler times. Great times
@@louminarty I wanted the Hollywood pack but got the mindbenders one, no where near as much fun!
I never owned a c64 but I would regularly borrow out my nes then my mega drive and snes for the Commodore goodness.
Ah nice Andy, you can pick one up for reasonable enough or emulate. So many nostalgic games to play and loads of new ones as well
Best part about C64 games was how they easy were to copy from your friends. I had a shoebox full of floppy disc bootleg games. But oh Lord, the worst was the cassette tape drive. It took like 9 hours to load Beach Head.
Ah I never had a disk drive they were super expensive so I had a tape deck. I did try to copy those, and failed miserably!!
32:00 .... OMG .... I still LOVE JumpMan ! So cool to play on rainy days !
Interesting list.
I loved the Turrican games and Airborne Ranger.
Some of my favourites I don't see on your list include:
Batman The Movie
Spike in Transylvania
Star Paws
Hero Quest
Shadow of the Beast
Shadow Dancer
Batman. It was two games in one.
James Pond 2: Robocod
Dan Dare
Aliens
No commando was my surprise, and all those you must I’ve enjoyed too. Which aliens did you prefer, I liked the US version better but both were great.
Gauntlet, Master of Magic, Galaxions, and Kongo Kong, were better than some of these. 😁
Good to see Defender of the Crown, Wizball, Head Over Heels, Ghosts 'n' Goblins, Soy vs Spy, Archon, and Denaris (or Katakis as they call it) made the list.
Gauntlet is one of my absolute favourite games ever!
was mich damals am meisten genervt hat war, das IMMER alles um zeit ging...man konnte nicht mal einfach so aufs klo gehen :-)
Great list, but no Ducks Ahoy! or Amazon?
Great video. Note: you have Number 19 listed as "Paranoid" in your list under the video. It is, of course "Paradroid".
Thanks mate, ah bloody spell check, I’ll correct it. I also spelled kikstart wrong in the video but don’t tell anyone haha. Thanks for watching
I’d have out Stunt Car Racer in the Top 10 🤷🏻♂️ personally it’s my No 1 👍🏻
Notice how you got to the Top 20, more simulations, RPGs and Adventure games? This is because, between 1989 and 1998, these were the top 3 genres!
Absolutely! I guess more people remember them and voted for them maybe as well?
Great list and a lot of titles I still remember. Just thought by myself which were the 10 games on C64 that come to my mind at first. Power at Sea, Maniac Mansion, Zak McKracken, Defender of the crown, Archon, the last ninja, International Karate, Winter Games, Gunship. All spread over your list (except power at sea - or i missed it ^^)
Que excelente video! Gracias por tu dedicación. Abrazo desde Argentina!
1:06:38 I still remember that big ninja image on the bottom right was intimidating. lol
Have you seen the intro to last ninja remix? Some absolutely stunning gfx at the start of that one as well mate
I might disagree with some of the ordering. But i have to admit they are all great games.
I am using the kung fu flash with my c64c and it is an incredible piece of kit...games are loaded in seconds.
Did I miss it? Commando? You used the theme…. Maybe I missed it.
Gonna try and finish my personal top 50 but it’s just fining the time
Ps, love the username!!
@Retro_B8 looking forward to it when you get around to it 😅
@@OceanLoader cheers mate!
1. Stroker
2. Sam fox strip poker
3. Sex games
4. Girls they want to have fun
5. Laser squad
6. Airborne ranger
7. Hostages
8. Skool daze
9. Leaderboard golf
10. Terrormolinos

Thanks mate, I done a similar video recently on the Amiga too 100
Are these in order? Just Kick start II 87 😮 that is some my favourite memories of my C64. I under stand it’s opinions though👍🏻
Hi Steve!
Got to agree KS2 is way low, I live making my own courses in the editor!
This list is compiled from the Lemon64 site where games must have a minimum 100 votes to be counted. These are in order by their rating on there mate.
Impossible missione is the GOAT!
Cannot believe beachhead isn’t even in the top 100-should be number1
It’s an absolute travesty isn’t it, but these are what was voted for by everyone with a minimum 100 votes from Lemon64
Forbidden..."Forrest?! RUN FORREST!
😂😂
The hours and hours I spent creating tracks for Racing Car Destruction Set…
A lot of the best games I liked were because of the phenomenal music in them, like Iron Lord (almost all I gravitated to I subsequently found out were composed by Jeroen Tel from Maniacs of Noise)
Again, not notable but relevant to the season 😁
It's on the CSDB uncredited as "/DEMOS/UNKNOWN/Unknown_136.sid"
What game was the main menu music between sections from? It’s been driving me crazy :)
Commando
I wish i still had my 128 and 64 with all my games. Stealth Fighter and Gunship were my 2 fav's. Followed close by Raid on Bungling Bay and Red Storm Rising. Last Ninja, Spy Hunter so many games i had back then. Stealth Fighter and Gunship u could not play without the keyboard overlays so many controls lol.
using the commando sound track but not including commando on the list, or did i miss it?
@@matthewkennedy5177 this top 100 is based on public votes from the popular website lemon64 with a minimum of 100 votes. It’s a complete travesty that commando isn’t in there I completely agree mate!
Wait a minute who did that brilliant cover / upgrade of Commando tune?
Wow, this will be good!
Thanks Thomas, hope you enjoyed it mate
My first computer was a C64 at 10 years old (1985). And i approve this list. :)
Where's Auto Duel? That was an amazing action rpg.
It’s not one I’ve played James, had a quick look and it does look interesting though, thanks for the recommendation mate
I heard that M.U.L.E. was available on Nintendo game system when they were popular. Any info on that?
Or any info on it being available on other gaming platforms (old or new)?
Sos un genio absoluto!!!! No puedo creer recordar todos estos juegos! Gracias!!!!
Hi! May I ask if this image/video material is available without copyright? And who the owner is? Thank you!
THANK YOU!
Of course I could tell you exactly which ones ;)
@user-lr2ny2pj9u use whatever you need from here I’ve no problem with that whatsoever, be great to get a tag so I can watch as I love C64 SID music! Some composers of C64 music do unfortunately claim ownership of music they composed for games made years ago but I’m not so sure which ones and it seems random if they do or don’t.
Look forward to hopefully seeing your video!
The best machine ever made better than anything made nowadays.
I loved my C64, still do!
Where can I find information about this c64 epic adventure game? It seems to be lost in time!?!
Bruce Lee better be number 1 or I’m rioting 😂
What’s the Song name of #72 fort apocalypse (20:45) , can’t find it, it’s not the games theme, like it lol help 😅

Platoon is a great game.
Kickstar... with my friend (,young). Lot of hours at play this game.

Kings Bounty (the true predecessor of the HOMM series)
Impossible Mission 2 (much more better than the first)
Street Rod (the best car tuning and racing game)
North & South
Sim City
Supremacy (the amazing space strategy a nd the best music)
Commando

Street rod is one I only discovered recently and really enjoy it but stunt car racer edges it personally, as much as I loved IM2 (can’t wait for the new one btw) it didn’t really improve on the first form me personally!
Supremacy I adored albeit on the Amiga but completely agree with commando. I love that game and it missed out by 0.04 which is so close!
Anybody else remember using S.A.M?
Doesnt ring a bell, what was it?
@@Retro_B8 wasn't a game. You basically typed in what you wanted it to say and it would say it. That's it. Groundbreaking at the time because computers didn't talk then.
Most assuredly, i built a burglar alarm for my room door using c64 joysticks and wrote a little basic to call S.A.M . if someone tripped it it said "Intruder Alert! Section A". I forgot and left it running, went to school and my mom came in to vacuum and it scared the hell out of her..i heard about it when i got home.
S.A.M (Software Automatic Mouth) was a speech synth for c64. you can make it talk.
Hi m8, Im surprised Uridium is @ 100 !!
Hi Roy, hope you are doing ok mate?
Yeah I’d of had it a little higher tbh but no commando, that’s unforgivable!

My personal top 100 is way different, as you say aliens is a classic, I enjoy the European and especially the US release, it’s probably my favourite film of all time.

@@Retro_B8 oh, that's a nostalgia list, I've been on there. I see what happened.

@@Johnny-xu7kb still baffles me how they aren’t in the top 100!! Commando on the music alone!!
This list is comprised from the popular website Lemon64 where you can vote ratings from 0 to 10 on how much you enjoy a game. The stipulations to be included were they must have a minimum of 100 votes and of had an official release.
Thanks for watching and my personal top 50 will be completed this year and as I said earlier it will include all (I think) of the publishers you listed!
Uridium 100 but Airborne Ranger 27???
